I think you're right to be worried about the kids. if they were overweight I could see limiting their calories, but that doesn't sound like the case here? Serving whole wheat would ge better nutritionally and on the glycemic index scale, for blood sugar control..but makes nO sense to serve to kids that are supposed to be gluten-free. In fact, I've always...

ARCHIVED Mascara Brands gluten-free?
Bubba's Mom replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I get red itchy eyes. I always thought it was allergies. Now I'm not so sure. It could be an ingredient in my mascara? The package from what I've been using is long gone, so I can't read it. I had a new one in my make-up drawer and found it has tocopherol. That's one of those ingredients that doesn't sound harmful, but it's vitamin E, which they like to... -
ARCHIVED Calling Italian Cooks : )
Bubba's Mom replied to MyMississippi's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I was fretting. Hubby suggested a pork roast with carmelized onions and pan roasted potatoes. It's something I've made for years, so it wouldn't add to my stress level. This may sound silly..but thinking I had something figured out and then having something else suggested has the opposite effect from relieving the stress! -
From my reading here I knew to mention SIBO as something that might be looked into when I saw the new GI. I've read that it can be hard to test for. There's one test where they have you breathe into a balloon and then drink a solution that would "feed" the bacteria, then they retest your breath at various intervals. With Celiac disease they can get some...

ARCHIVED Calling Italian Cooks : )
Bubba's Mom replied to MyMississippi's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I'm starting to feel a little braver. The package says to pre-boil the noodles. Maybe if I cook them for a couple of minutes(but not the full amount of time) it will remove the extra starch? I know I should have experimented before now so such an important meal wouldn't be so scary? -
Had a bad day today. Had to do some shopping and was so nauseated I carried a plastic bag with me "just in case". I get my scope on Tuesday. I hope he can find out what's wrong.

ARCHIVED Calling Italian Cooks : )
Bubba's Mom replied to MyMississippi's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Lasagna was always our Christmas eve dinner. This is my first year gluten-free. I bought Tinkyada lasagna noodles, but I'm afraid of how the lasgna will turn out. My gluten eating family will be very disappointed if it's anything like the DeBoles pasta I served recently. Please post how yours goes? I'm thinking about skipping it this year rather than... -
ARCHIVED Two Docs With Differing Opinions
Bubba's Mom replied to AVR1962's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
So sorry to hear you're having such issues with these Dr.s. Is there a posibility of seeing a third? I've been dealing with a positive DX from a GI (through scope) and disbelief of the DX from my PCP. No explanation for my symptoms from the non-believer though. It's so frustrating to have those in charge of our care having such opposite views! -

ARCHIVED Why Gluten-Free Diets Are Not Welcome Chez Martha Stewart
Bubba's Mom replied to sa1937's topic in Publications & Publicity

ARCHIVED How Careful Do I Need To Be?
Bubba's Mom replied to cavetroll's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You must make sure you ingest NO gluten..not even a trace! Even though you may not feel digestive issues, damage is being done if you eat it. The inflammation in your system can make you develope all sorts of other symptoms later too, maybe even develope other autoimmune diseases or cancer. It's nothing to play with. It's a shame your friend is so foolish... -
Thanks so much. You're always so sweet..both of you.

Thanks so much for your support. I have a stack of magazines to go through..I just can't seem to focus very well. I've pretty much lost my sense of humor..but your mention of a Dr. murder mystery gave me a smile. Thanks for that. I didn't visit the site here for a while because I was in such a bad state of mind. I was afraid I might scare away any newbies...

ARCHIVED Not Getting Better At All
Bubba's Mom replied to Chanahan-6's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
You may have developed another food intollerance? Keep a log of everything you eat, along with any symptoms. Many reactions aren't immediate..so having a way of looking back can be vry helpful in putting the puzzle together. I found soy gives me problems in every form now. I used to eat soy nuts for snacks with no problems at all! -
ARCHIVED Pathology Report
Bubba's Mom replied to BellaBella's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It means they aren't seeing any damage or inflamation in the biopsies that were taken. They appear normal. -
I've been gluten-free for 6 months now. I have severe nausea all of the time. I don't want to eat. The smell of anything cooking makes me sick. I have pain off and on in my URQ. About 2 hours after I eat, as the food leaves my stomach and enters the intestine I break out in a sweat all over. I'm still losing weight and my axiety and insomnia have gotten...

Errr..Amitriptolene is an anti-depressant. It doesn't really have anything to do with treating your allergies or intollerances. Oftentimes people with chronic or unexplained illness suffer from depression..so that's maybe why it was prescribed? The 10mg is not a very strong dose.

ARCHIVED I Hope I Have Celiac's
Bubba's Mom replied to coco676's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
A diagnosis of Celiac is much better than many alternatives. You can control what you eat and get healed. If your blood tests come back negative give gluten-free a try..for at least 3 months. Some issues take longer to resolve, but you should notice a difference by then? I also recommend keeping a log of what you eat. It will help you figure out if there... -
ARCHIVED Symptoms/ Diagnosis
Bubba's Mom replied to kalexat's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Many of us have negative blood tests but have Celiac. Eat gluten until you get your endoscope so your test will be more accurate. The endoscope isn't bad at all. I'm scheduled to have one next week and I'm not nervous at all. You may feel a bit groggy afterwards and not remember everything that happened. You should have someone with you to drive you... -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Else Stink?
Bubba's Mom replied to domesticactivist's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I haven't been online for a while due to pretty severe health issues. I'm surprised to see you're on a gluten challenge, but I completely understand the desire for answers...one way or the other. My PCP has me pegged as a hypochondriac, doesn't believe my Celiac DX and assumes anything I complain about is mental. I asked for a blood panel to be drawn... -
ARCHIVED First Day Of Chemo Went Well
Bubba's Mom replied to bonnie blue's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks for letting us know how it's going for you. I like the renaming to cocktail hour. It sounds like you still have your sense of humor? It will help you get through this. I admire your positive attitude. (((hugs)))
