Hi, First of all, congratulations! Second, I say let the guests eat gluten free! I doubt most of them will even realize that it's gluten free. I cook gluten free stuff for my friends and family all the time and I don't make anything gluteny for them and they never even notice. I'm going to a wedding in a few weeks and it turns out that one of their...

ARCHIVED Pain, But Not Gluten
sspitzer5 replied to sspitzer5's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thanks for the replies! It doesn't seem to correspond with my cycle, seems more digestive in nature, but it's hard to tell for sure. S -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Restaurants In San Antonio Tx
sspitzer5 replied to paige's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Yes! I was there for business a couple of months ago. Try Biga on the Banks on the river walk (Open Original Shared Link). It's a little pricey, but they were extremely accomodating and the food was great. S -
I do. I was diagnosed with low thyroid/hashimoto's about 8 years ago. S

ARCHIVED Hair Still Falling Out!

Hi Susan, I'd get your thyroid checked. Low thyroid can cause hair loss and is very common with Celiac. S -
ARCHIVED Pain, But Not Gluten
sspitzer5 posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi, I've been gluten free for a little over a year. Occasionally, I get major abdominal pain that is not related to gluten (as far as I can tell - no diaherra or other typical gluten symptoms). The pain isn't from gas or bloating either. It feels almost like a cramp or as I've described it before, "like I'm digesting a piece of glass". Ouch. Anyway, my... -
ARCHIVED Really Need A Supoort System
sspitzer5 replied to bigapplekathleen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi K, I definitely understand how you feel. I'm glad you found this board and the support it offers. I wanted to add one thing which is that I frequently go out to dinner with clients and I find that they are typically very supportive. I have a little dining card that explains everything and I give it to the waiter/manager. When I tell clients that I... -
Tinkerbell, you're definitely not alone. I have had those same feelings many times over the past year. I've been gluten free for a year. I didn't see too much improvement until I changed soap, my stupid shower soap had wheat in it. So all that time I tried so hard to watch what I ate and never thought about soap that was probably all over my hands, etc. It...

ARCHIVED Fridge For Hotel Room?
sspitzer5 replied to teankerbell's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I've never specifically requested a fridge, but lots of the "suite" hotels have them (e.g. Residence Inn, etc.). I guess you could try booking at hotels that have them. S -
Yes, I take t3 and t4. I have them made at a compounding pharmacy. I've tried a bunch of stuff including Armour, but this seems to work well for me. I think the switch to Armour will go well. The only issue may be that you may need to supplement with t4 since pigs (where Armour comes from) have a slightly different t4/t3 ratio. I too have hypothyroidism...

ARCHIVED Gluten Free In-flight Meals?
sspitzer5 replied to erin24's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
United has a gluten free meal that is really gluten free. The bad news is that they only serve it on one domestic flight now - SFO to NYC and back. Not sure about international. I say bring your own food. S -
ARCHIVED Santana Row, San Jose Ca
sspitzer5 replied to SofiEmiMom's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Hi, Maggiano's keeps gluten free pasta stocked and they can make dishes for you. I don't think they have a specific gluten free menu. I definitely recommend it. In fact, I just ate there yesterday. S -
ARCHIVED Swollen Face
sspitzer5 replied to gointribal's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My eyes get swollen sometimes, especially my left one. I thought it might be gluten, but sometimes it seems swollen and I don't have any other symptoms. So, maybe it's an allergy to something else? S -
ARCHIVED Shampoo & Conditioner
sspitzer5 replied to shellhoo's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use Pantene, but when I emailed them, they gave me a cya response. They said they don't add any gluten, but that they can't confirm all of their supplier ingredients. So, I'm not sure if they are totally gluten free or not. S -

ARCHIVED Any Teeth Grinders Out There?
sspitzer5 replied to DonnaD's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi Donna, I grind my teeth too. One of my doctors (an MD but holistic) told me that teeth grinding is associated with food allergies. I'm not sure if there's research to prove it, but I thought it was interesting. S -
ARCHIVED Anyone Heard Of Digestional?
sspitzer5 posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Has anyone heard of a product called Digestinol (Open Original Shared Link). It claims to do the following (and more): - Helps stop the bleeding, damage and leakage of the intestine wall, thereby taking the stress off the immune system. - Helps to effectively balance and restore proper immune system function alleviating the auto-immune response and... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Humus
sspitzer5 replied to gointribal's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi, I've purchased gluten free humus at Safeway and Whole Foods. Sorry I don't know the brand (there are several of them). It was in a refridgerated section with the dips/etc. S -
Hi, my boyfriend had ulcerative colitis and had to have surgery for it. His colon was very damaged. I know there are some correlations between Celiac and colitis and I've been urging (aka bugging the hell out of) him to get tested for Celiac - he's half Irish and his cousin has derm. hep. What I'm wondering is if eating gluten can damage not only the small...

Hi Yvonee, I just went to my gi guy yesterday complaining of many of the same symptoms. I've been gluten-free for about a year. He said that it could be a bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine. He's scheduled me for a breath test to see if I have this. If so, there are antibiotics to treat it. Maybe this is a possibility in your case? For me, I...

ARCHIVED Am I The Only One Who Feels This Way?
sspitzer5 replied to glutenfreeheather's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi, Just wanted to say that I know how you feel. I've also been gluten-free for about a year. The stress of a long term illness can really cause mental havoc, as can the stress of dealing with this disease. I wouldn't say I'm depressed, but I definitely have times when I feel like I'll never get well and that's hard to deal with. I just get really frustrated... -
