ARCHIVED Celiac And Infections
sspitzer5 replied to thomas3000's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
hi thomas, if an infection is found, what is the usual course of treatment? thanks, susan -
Yeah ES, it could have been something else. I had been glutened a few days before and perhaps it will still lingering there. I usually find that I can pick up a reaction pretty quickly though. But, I haven't figured out how long the gluten will stay in my system. I've eaten at Chipotle a few more times and not had much issue. I do have a mild reaction...

ARCHIVED Strange Symptoms
sspitzer5 replied to Jen H's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Jen, I get these same headaches/pressure every day! They drive me crazy and are my worst symptom. I've had them for at least 6 years. I've been gluten-free for about 6 months. They seem a little better now, but I still get them. Perhaps it is another food allergy. I've recently started to wonder if my makeup could be a cause. Maybe I'm allergic to one of... -
ARCHIVED Seattle - Flying Apron Bakery
sspitzer5 replied to tarnalberry's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yes, I do know where there's a great gluten-free bakery in the San Fran area. It's called Crave and they sell their stuff at the Whole Foods in San Ramon and Walnut Creek and other places according to their website. They have great cookies and brownies! Haven't tried their cakes but they look very good. Here's their website. Open Original Shared... -
ARCHIVED Can Celiac Disease Cause Frequent Headaches? Help!
sspitzer5 replied to deejay's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I get headaches all the time. I was diagnosed with gluten intolerance. My biopsy was inconclusive. I've been gluten free for about 5 months and I've seen some improvement, but still have headaches pretty much every day. I would not characterize them as migraines though. But, they are very hard to deal with. I think I've had a headache almost every day for... -
I take back my response on United having a good gluten free meal. It seems that they only sell meals now and don't have anything gluten free. Very disappointing since I fly them a lot. Pack your lunch. Susan

It could have been the sour cream. I don't know if Wendy's lists that as gluten free or not, but sometimes it has gluten. Susan

what a drag! i've had similar experiences and it's sooooooooo frustrating. i've been pretty close to tears in a few restaurants. i once sent a cheeseburger back 3 times because the waiter wasn't listening to what i asked for. it kept coming coated in or surrounded by junk. i once asked for a piece of salmon grilled plain, nothing on it. i figured that...

ARCHIVED Mary's Gone Crackers
sspitzer5 replied to micheleph's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Food reactions are so frustrating to figure out. I can't eat Edwards and Sons. I wish I could because I think they taste great. Susan -
I tried eating at Chipolte last night and got sick. Has anyone else gotten sick there? I had a carnitas bol with no sour cream, black beans, mild salsa, cheese. I did have some quacamole and chips too. I watched them make my bol, so I'm sure there was no cross contamination with the flour tortillas. The bols don't even use tortillas or taco shells. I've...

ARCHIVED Make-up
sspitzer5 replied to KayJay's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi all, Just wondering, do you think foundation/base make-up with gluten in it could give you headaches? I get headaches every day and don't know why. I get a lot of pressure around my eyes and forehead. I could be dreaming this, but it seems worse ater I put make up on. I don't know if my Clinique foundation is gluten free or not, I'm waiting to hear... -
ARCHIVED Hashimoto's Hypothyroidism ?
sspitzer5 replied to Nanjee's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi Heidi, I'm really sorry that you are having to go through all of this. Dealing with thryoid issues and Celiacs is really complicated and frustrating. I hope you have some positive progress soon. As to the thyroid levels, most people feel better when their TSH is under 2 and yours is still really, really high. I felt terrible when I was diagnosed... -
ARCHIVED Negative Biospy
sspitzer5 replied to sspitzer5's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks Carrie and Kaiti. I wasn't sure if 3 months would be enough to heal damage. And, as you say, it might just have missed the damaged areas. I had accidental gluten slips ups in those 3 months, but certainly nothing like 3 pieces of bread a day! And, no, I haven't checked all my makeup/etc. yet. I was just about to look into that. I think I've finally... -
ARCHIVED Negative Biospy
sspitzer5 posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, I just got my first official biopsy results and they were completely normal. I started on a gluten free diet about three months prior to the test. Would that be enough time to reverse the damage? I was tested through Enterolabs back in February and the results were positive, that's when I started on the gluten-free diet. I have to admit, I... -
ARCHIVED Freeze Dried Camping Food
sspitzer5 replied to Lesliean's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Funny you should mention this as I was just checking into this yesterday. Although I don't need it for camping, I want it for when I travel and don't have access to anything but catered meals. I found a company called AlpineAire. Check out this list of gluten-free products! They provide a special gluten free list! Open Original Shared Link Looks... -
I ate at PF Chang's last week and was very queasy after the meal. However, I don't believe the issue was gluten. It seemed more like MSG. I usually get queasy when I have MSG. I didn't have any of the usual gluten reactions. I emailed them and was assured that they don't use any MSG and that everything in my meal was gluten free. So, I'm stumped. Why...

ARCHIVED Hashimoto's Hypothyroidism ?
sspitzer5 replied to Nanjee's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Yeah, these issues are really a mess. In addition to the thyroid and Celiac's, I also think I have low adrenals and messed up female hormones. I'm not sure how to go about sorting it all out, but like you ... it's been a LONG road. Sometimes I feel fine, but frequently I am tired and have extremely persistent headaches. My life would be much better if I could... -
ARCHIVED Hashimoto's Hypothyroidism ?
sspitzer5 replied to Nanjee's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi, I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's about 7 years ago, long before I found out about the Celiac's. I tried taking Synthroid, Armour, and one that is now off the market. I had problems with Synthroid. Armour wasn't bad, but the ratio of t4 to t3 isn't exactly what a human body needs (although great for pigs - that's where it comes from) and sometimes people... -
Hi, I had lunch at the PF Chang's in Palo Alto, CA today and had the lemon chicken. Tasted great, but I am now queasy. Does anyone know if they use MSG? I've eaten there several times. I try to avoid the stuff with the wheat free soy sauce because that didn't agree with me. Susan

United has a pretty decent gluten free meal. It's a grilled chicken breast and veggie, maybe mashed potatoes (can't remember exactly), rice cakes, and apple sauce. Susan

ARCHIVED Mac & Cheese Sauce Ingredients
sspitzer5 replied to karenwinslow1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Could the problem with Kraft be the citric acid? I remember reading something about this, so I checked again and found this: "Another surprise hidden gluten is citric acid. When citric acid is made in the United States, it is made from sugar cane, sugar beets or corn; however, when it is produced in China, it may be made from wheat. " Might be worth... -
ARCHIVED New Delphi Lists! Product Lists!

ARCHIVED Tell Me About Hypothyroid
sspitzer5 replied to julie5914's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have Hasimoto's thyroiditis and have done a lot of research on it. My advice is to get copies of all your test results and make sure that your TSH is below 2. They've changed the guidelines in the last few years and some doctors don't realize it. Also, it is possible to have a thyroid problem even if the test results don't show it. So, find a doctor who... -
Hi, I am hypothyroid too. The best web site I found is Open Original Shared Link. The forums have great info. In fact, it was this web site that helped me figure out that I had Celiacs. Susan

ARCHIVED Gf Rice Crackers - Strange Label
sspitzer5 replied to glen4cindy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think I am reacting to these crackers too. I didn't have time for lunch yesterday, so I grabbed a handful of the gluten-free vegetable crackers. They taste great. But, within about an hour (my typical reaction time), I stated having symptoms of having eaten gluten. I felt fine prior to eating them and they are they only thing I ate, so I guess I'll scratch...
