  1. I tend to call my gluten free foods fake, but my household is split so we have both regular and gluten free bread and some other things. Since I find having to call my special foods gluten free as depressing I call them fake. I think it makes me feel better when they don't live up to my very fond memories of wheat based products. To me if it's fake then it...
  2. I just buy the popcorn or candy that I know is gluten free and I haven't had a problem with it. Just check to see the ingredients. In the 3 movie theaters that I go to the popcorn is far away from the things like the nachos and hot dogs. So CC is fairly limited. And the nacho chip stuff is all prepackaged and when they serve hot dogs they use disposable gloves...
  3. Thanks for giving me more information. I found an amazing deal at sears of all places for 2 complete sets including the progressive lens for 99$. If I'm not happy with the progressives then I'm going to try there. I happened to be at the mall and walked by the ad. I can't focus on things close up whether or not my vision is corrected or not...
  4. Thanks, do they work ok?
  5. My old frames are fairly stretched out and too small for progressive lenses.
  6. As my body quickly begins to fall apart at 24, I found out this morning that I need to get new glasses. Actually two pairs of glasses because I need reading glasses for over my contacts. I went to one of those glasses chain stores and found that, I really should get progressive lenses which cost over 300$ there on their own, plus the frames was going to cost...
  7. I don't know if this is allowed, but seeing how expensive and hard to find gluten free foods are I thought I'd share. Living Social currently has a promotion with the website glutenfreely. It can be found here Open Original Shared Link I'm sorry if this is not allowed. Please remove it.
  8. If you are looking to find people who live a gluten free lifestyle why don't you look for a support group in your area? That would be a starting point. Personally, I would never join an illness related dating site. I am MORE than just a person with celiac. While it is a big part of my life, it doesn't define me. While it may be nice to have a significant...
  9. Why would there not be a regular menu on the table? If you are dining with others you can obviously just ask to look at their menu if you really need to look at the price. If a server removing the normal menu bothers you just tell them to leave it. I was trained to remove the regular menu for the gluten free menu so mistakes are not made when ordering. Having...
  10. Well my gi told me that I couldn't possibly have celiac because no one in my family is diagnosed with it. And my new allergist keeps trying to tell me that I don't have asthma and all my asthmatic symptoms come from acid reflux. I've had asthma for over a decade and my endoscopy last fall showed NO signs of acid reflux. How on earth does he think that...
  11. I'm not sure the last time you lived on a college campus, but most dorms FORBID hot plates, toaster ovens, crock pots, etc in normal dorms without a full kitchen. This includes george foreman grills. At my college we couldn't even have a normal coffee pot because of the heating unit on the bottom. At my school if you needed to make your own food, you had...
  12. Go get disposable dog feet covers and some disposable gloves. Cover the dogs feel when they go out and use the gloves to take off the booties when BEFORE they enter the house. Then it's not a concern. And just don't let them out as much. If they need excerscise, take them out on leashed walks that avoid the hay.

    ARCHIVED Getting Tests Done

Here's my story. Last year I was dx'd with a b 12 deficiency and with the GI symptoms that I was having ended up having celiac blood tests done and an endoscopy. Unforunately my GI only took 2 biopsies in my small intestine, the rest were in my stomach and esophagus. All of those tests were negative. My GI told me celiac was impossible because my tests were...
  14. I don't think they need a better proofreader unless the gluten free section mentioned cooking for people with celiac or gluten intolerance. If the section is just a gluten free section and not a section on how to cook gluten free for celiac then the rye and seminola flour notes apply as those flours have a different gluten percentages than normal wheat...
  15. Redding CT? Or is there another Redding I don't know about?
  16. If the language in the pamphlet you recieved bothers you, don't use it. Try to obtain a different pamphlet on celiac. If you can't find one that you like, then you can create your own. Just cite the medical facts from a reliable source. If you are doing it for education about your child's celiac this would be the way to go because you can tailor it to your...
  17. Many places don't want to certify their products gluten free because that is considered a legal statement and they want to cover their butts. So it depends on how sensitive you personally, are. For me I consider a medication safe for me if it is one, medically needed and has no gluten ingredients. But I do not react to foods that are made in the same facility...
  18. Were they labeled with your name on it? Because if they weren't and it was left for an extended period (more than a week) of time it may have been assumed that they were forgotten about and just thrown out. If you are looking for emergency food can you keep a packaged snack at your desk, in your car, or purse instead? Then people don't have access to it.
  19. Personally, my first step would be to email or call the person you contacted back and explain that your diet is not a "low gluten diet" but a completely gluten free diet and that it is a medical need. And see what the response is but still plan on providing most of your own food.
  20. If they ask I will tell them the truth, I just don't see the need to announce it.
  21. I think that people who have known allergies or intolerances would ask about the offending ingredients before assuming that it ok to eat. For example the gluten rolls I would have brought would have both dairy and eggs. They have buttermilk and are brushed with egg. The only unusual ingredient in either recipe is a small amount of xanthum gum, which is actually...
  22. I'm going to preface my dilemma by saying that this is my first Christmas both Gluten free and married. So I'm finding it a little stressful and confusing. Oh, and all parties involved are aware that I am gluten free except my husband's grandmother who has significant alzhemiers and is rather estranged from the family. My husband's family all gets together...
  23. I'm not sure what your position in the program is, but you could at least suggest that snacks brought from home should be taken out prior to beginning snack time. That might help some of the confusion and accidents. Because if the child already has their snack in front of them, they would not be given the "normal" snack. Rather than passing out the provided...
  24. I have to agree. Especially because also, I've heard that some people are using a gluten free diet to hide their eating disorder. This kinda sounds like another version of that. Especially since whole wheat is supposed to be healthier for you than white flour. If you are concerned that these children are being abused please call their local child protective...
  25. One of the definitions of criticism is to pass a judgement. Just like all you have since you insist on attacking me because my judgement was different from your own. Another definition of criticism is critical commentary. Here critical commentary is needed as my feeling that she is overreacting to the situation and is in the minority. Because of my feeling...
