ARCHIVED Touching Flour Now Breaks Me Out
sariesue replied to Macbre's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Perhaps it is time then for your entire house to be gluten free. -
At least mini trolls go away quick. In another forum I belong to we had a consistent troll for several months. But it is an unmoderated forum so it's harder for action to be taken. But, they were banned then found a new way in... It was actually quite sad because the forum lost several members and it really scared off the new members. Since the troll was...

ARCHIVED Serious Behavioral Issues
sariesue replied to millersinkenya's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Have you had him tested for psychiatric problems includeing bp, autism, ADD, pervasive developmental disorders..... If he has some other condition in addition to celiac he needs to be treated. I know with bipolar disorder there has been an established theory called the kindling effect. It is that each untreated episode an individual has the worse the episodes... -
Does any one have any forum pet peeves? My biggest pet peeve is when people post their topics in blatantly wrong sections. While it can be hard to figure out if something goes in post dx or coping with, since they can overlap. I'm talking about posts that are asking for recipes that are posted to the coping section. It's really not that hard to scroll to recipes...

ARCHIVED Celiac Roommate
sariesue replied to john2712s's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I agree with pricklypear that he'll pay sooner or later, also you pointing out how bad he is treating his celiac could really make things tense between the two of you. You really have no place to be correcting his mistakes on his diet unless he asks or starts b%$@#ing about how poorly he feels. But, if you bring it up on your own you could distroy your friendship... -
ARCHIVED Even At The Hospital... People Don't Understand
sariesue replied to DonnaMM's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Does she have the burger toppings? If she does then it is a valid question. People have a different definition of plain. I can see wanting clarification since you asked for no bun, but used a term plain that includes a bun. Some people think that a plain burger has no lettuce and tomatos but still have the set condiments. Also, please remember that not all... -
ARCHIVED Kids' Science Project
sariesue replied to melissa222's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
A few more questions because the survey only allowed 3 questions. 4) How many physicians did you visit on your quest for a cause? A. Only one B. Two C. Three D. Four E. Other F. Lost count! It depends on how you look at it, I've seen a psych dr for the last 4 years, I saw my regular dr about neuropathy in my wrist/hands, who refered my to a neurologist... -
ARCHIVED Ready For A Corn Challenge
sariesue replied to Marilyn R's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Personally, if I was going to reintroduce a food, I would want it to be in the most pure state as possible. So I would go with either steamed or grilled. But, that's because I would be concerned with the possiblity of reacting to something else if I ate like corn bread. Although I would butter and salt the corn before eating. But, I have no problems with... -
According to my dr I don't have celiac(blood tests and biposy negative), I just have a gluten intolerance. The only blood test that has ever come back as off was my b12 which was considered in the normal range, but nearly deficient and that was a year ago. So I supplement and the last time it was tested my dr said it was normal. But, I don't know how normal...

I was president of my college's habitat for humanity group in college. One of the elect board members had celiac, and I offered to make brownies for an elect board meeting. When she said she couldn't have gluten I offered to make gluten free brownies. I asked her if I made them in a disposable pan with a brand new spoon, could she eat them. And she said...

Does anyone ever get dizzy for no apparent reason? I have been getting dizzy a lot lately. It seems to happen more when I'm tired. It's happened twice now in 24hrs. Last night I had just came home from my two hour ballet/pointe class and suddenly got too dizzy to stand. And this morning when I woke up I was very dizzy and still really tired so I went back...

ARCHIVED Gluten Allergy Only - Not Celiac? Anyone?
sariesue replied to Metoo's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Regardless if you have an allergy or celiac or both, wouldn't your children's treatment be the same? You would still need to introduce gluten and watch for reactions. Especially for celiac since you have to be eating gluten for some time before testing would be valid. And since food allergies are not passed down to children. Although food allergies can run... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Bread Crumbs
sariesue replied to misskatycat's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
To bread chicken I dip the meat in gluten-free flour, then egg, then the bread crumbs. To get the crumbs to stick I press them into the meat. Then if they still look unbreaded once in the dish I put more on the meat and press on again. Perhaps some of that is helpful. -

ARCHIVED Gluten Allergy Only - Not Celiac? Anyone?
sariesue replied to Metoo's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Possibly not. For my after the blood tests for allergies came skin tests. During skin tests they used both lab prepared allergens and a water and real allergen mix. They dip this pointy thing in the solution then prick your skin with it. Then you get to wait and see if you develop a bump. The next step after that is an oral food challenge where you eat small... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Allergy Only - Not Celiac? Anyone?
sariesue replied to Metoo's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
According to my blood test(possibly incomplete) and my biopsy(only 2 biopsies in my small intestine), I don't have celiac. I also don't have an allergy to all gluten just to barley. But I do have a definite intolerance to wheat. Since I don't like rye I am unsure if I have issues with that since I haven't had any in recent memory. So, I am gluten free to... -
ARCHIVED And Another Diagnosis...
sariesue replied to glutenfreemamax2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Then you could try starting with coping skills and reconsider medications once you have weaned your child. I mentioned medications because depending on how severe your symptoms are you may need them to be able to really implement any major coping mechanisms. I know I do. I tried to do coping mechanisms alone and I found I was too disorganized to get organized... -
ARCHIVED And Another Diagnosis...
sariesue replied to glutenfreemamax2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have ADD, I was dx'd when I was 5 and continue to test positive for it almost 20 years later. It runs in my family, my dad has it, I have it and my younger sister have it. However, with medication I have no problems. The thing with ADD meds and really all psych meds is that if the first one doesn't work to try another. The nonstimulant ADD med guanificine... -
ARCHIVED Would You Eat Rudi's Bread If Not Celiac?
sariesue replied to desperate's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
sure I'd but I'd eat the regular wheat filled rudis. -
I have a slightly different opinion. When you husband asked how much of the chicken was left did you remind him that you were going to use it to make dinner last night? Or did you assume he remembered that you told him days in advance about dinner plans for Sunday night? Because you can't assume that people remember everything you tell them especially if...

ARCHIVED Why Are People So Insensitive?
sariesue replied to espresso261's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This is NOT true for all catering services. I worked for an event caterer where we set up the kitchen for the event and worked out of anywhere. There there are no special meals if they are not requested and last minute requests like gluten free or kosher are not always possible to fully accommodate. Obviously we could omit a sauce and serve the plain meat... -
ARCHIVED Halloween Candy Hangover
sariesue replied to pricklypear1971's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
What my family always did with the halloween candy was we would pick out the candies we don't like. And we froze the rest. then we could take out a few peices at a time. Having it frozen was a good deterent from trying to eat it all at once because some candies are not good frozen especially since we used the basement freezer which was always set to a low... -
Due to the massive power outages in my area from last weeks snow storm Halloween was postponed until tonight. I offered to buy candy for my husband to give out, however he declined saying that we won't get any trick or treaters. Apparently his parents who live in the house behind us have never gotten any trick or treaters in the last decade. I think we might...

I was mean about RSVPs recently. I had two couples not respond ever respond to my wedding invitations even though I had personalized prestamped postcards. Many people were over two weeks late with sending their responses. In fact, my husband's own parents did not RSVP and we were living with them at the time. How hard is it to check yes and hand me the card...
