ARCHIVED Guests Who Ask For My Food
sariesue replied to Finally-45's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
To invite guests over and then refuse them food, especially food that can be seen, is very tacky especially if they are over during a meal period or for a good chunk of time. It is one thing to suggest they eat something else instead of your gluten-free food. But, in the end if you don't want to share your don't show it to your guests. I dislike the idea... -

Honestly, you should be happy that they gave you options at all. In planning their wedding where they had to consider many factors such as date, number of people, what type of food they wanted to have, price, etc. They took the time to do enough research to come up with 3 options. Honestly, that's a lot of work when you are trying to plan a wedding. They...

A recent thyroid test is one that is done within the last month according to my drs, I have had 3 blood tests and the radioactive uptake test in the last 3 months. I had normal thyroid numbers for 23 years until suddenly one day they were high. The symptoms that led to testing my thyroid were hair loss and unintentional weight loss.

If you do a lot of activities that have your elbows bent you could have ulnar nerve entrapment. It's like carpal tunnel only it effects the nerve that runs through your elbow.

Have you looked into supported living environments? They do exist for people with medical conditions who can't live on their own. Your signature says you have aspergers and adhd are you currently getting treatment including therapy for those conditions? If not, look into it as it seems like it would help improve your overall quality of life.

For birthdays just send a letter saying that due to your celiac and the increasing rate of food allergies in children students will NOT be allowed to bring in food related birthday treats. Instead parents can supply other non food birthday treats such as birthday hats, stickers, the oppertunity to share a favorite book/toy with the class or goody bags(without...

ARCHIVED Canned Cat Food Suggestions
sariesue replied to Jenniferxgfx's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It appears that wellness pet food. www.wellnesspetfood.com has wheat free products. The core line is supposed to be wheat and grain free and some of the cubed wet foods are also wheat free. Other than that can you chunk a normal cat food? -
ARCHIVED Candy For A Party
sariesue replied to GFreeMO's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If you have an iparty or other party store near you, check out their goody bag aisle. It will have small noncandy treats like stickers, those paper yoyo things, and much more. -
ARCHIVED Pity Party/ College Search
sariesue replied to ryebaby0's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If you are looking for a college on the east coast check out the University of Hartford. I know several celiacs and others with severe food issues who went there and one who still does. They have on campus living that has a full kitchen, plus there were gluten-free options in the cafeterias, and there was an aisle of gluten-free food in the on campus market... -

sariesue replied to L.O.C.T.'s topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've been dx'd with ADHD, depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder. I was dx'd with ADHD at age 5. The rest came in my teens. -
ARCHIVED How To Keep A Teenager Compliant
sariesue replied to fidget1975's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Sorry if this has already been mentioned, but are you say she is in the process of being dx'd. Has she had the endoscopic biopsy yet? Do you plan on doing one? If you do plan on having the biposy which is the standard for diagnosis then she needs to continue to eat gluten until the test is done. The biopsy must be done while eating gluten everyday for several... -
Seroquel is a second generation antipsychotic. In low doses it is very very sedating but as the dose gets higher it becomes less sedating. It's currently only labeled to treat psychosis, mania, and major depression. Off label uses include insomnia and GAD. It's nonhabit forming so it can be used more long term than traditional sleep aids. It does have side...

Chilis serves gluten there will always be a chance of CC. However, assuming the fryer was cleaned and emptied properly that risk should be minimal and most of the risk I would think would be from CC after the chips were fried.

ARCHIVED Vacationing In South Carolina
sariesue replied to H Barrett's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
You may want to start looking and calling places now if hilton head was hit by the hurricane. If there was a lot of damage in that area some restaurants might still be closed due to damage/power loss. In CT where I am it was only a tropical storm and they are estimating that people will still not have power until Saturday and included in that are a lot of... -
If you do go with the prescription sleep aid route make sure that you aren't alone the first time you take it. Ambien can cause hallucinations. The times that I took ambien I would hallucinate and then have a panic attack due to what I was seeing. However, I have no problems on ambien CR. If you are concerned about long term issues or the typical side effects...

ARCHIVED I Need To Replace My Springform Pan, Don't I?
sariesue replied to julandjo's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you are extremely concerned with keeping your bakeware gluten free, don't take it out of your house. In the future, remove the cake from the springform prior to leaving your house and put it on a paper plate. That way your bakeware stays gluten free and you don't need to worry. By using disposable plates you don't need to bring any dishes home. -
ARCHIVED Got Poisoned By Coffee Guy At Work
sariesue replied to Marz's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Did you actually, tell the coffee guy that your coffee needs to be gluten free? Or did you just order a cappicino and assume it would be gluten free because it shouldn't contain gluten? I ask because unless you tell the coffee guy every time you get coffee it needs to gluten free you can't assume it is. It's like the stupid woman at my work last night who... -
ARCHIVED Makeup?
sariesue replied to 33 in Ca Celiacs and DH's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Don't you wear gloves when performing services? If you are wearing gloves and taking them off properly I don't see it being a problem. Just like gloves prevent medical professionals from blood borne illnesses. If you don't wear gloves, why not start? I've had hair dressers and nail techs wear gloves while performing services on me. If you do wear gloves... -
Last summer I worked at starbucks and we did have allergy training including cc. But, it might have been location specific one of our shift supervisors had celiac and another food allergy. However, while the chocolate mocha was gluten-free when I worked there the white mocha sauce was not. But, the mocha does have a good chance of cc because unlike most of...

ARCHIVED Should I Cheat? Olive Garden..
sariesue replied to BarbieGirl's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
When you order something at a restaurant always specify that you have need your meal to be gluten free. I waitress at a well known chain with a gluten free menu. Meals that are specified gluten-free or with a specific allergy are cooked differently than the same item if it was not specified gluten-free, usually in foil instead of being placed directly on... -
YES it is very tacky to contact the caterer like that. Contact the bride or groom (whomever you are closer to) and ask about a substitute meal and offer to contact the caterer for her. I got married in July and accommodated various dietary restrictions, however, it was my wedding and I was very particular about the food served including the alternative meals...

ARCHIVED Sinus Flare Up...
sariesue replied to gem75's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Comorbid is the term used when one condition effects the your symptoms/treatment of another condition. Like type two diabetes is a can be a comorbid condition for the morbidly obese. Or how my chronic sinusitis effects my hay fever. Does that make more sense? Also, have you been tested for allergies? Those can cause some pretty nasty sinus problems. -
ARCHIVED Sinus Flare Up...
sariesue replied to gem75's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Have you seen an ENT? You could have a comorbid sinus problem in addition to celiac. If you have a sinus condition in addition to celiac you could be gluten free forever and you still will have sinus problems. -
