  1. Thanks!! We went to eat on Sun. and I did get sick. Tonic water seems to help settle my stomach and I drank two huge glasses!! Anyway, I had the soup. The soup might have been where I got glutened...because I've eaten at Carraba's once before and didn't get sick. This is the first time I've had the soup. I live in a rural area that hasn't heard...
  2. I went out to eat yesterday and was glutened. I feel really weird after being glutened. My speach gets a little slured and I feel buzzed. Yesterday I was even stumbling as I walked into my house. Sortly after that, I get the digestive symptoms. I too feel like I'm going to panic they day after being glutened. I was telling my husband last night that...
  3. My dd gets a rash around her mouth when she gets glutened. She also has an Igg reaction to wheat which combats the problem. We've taken her to 3 dermatologists and one was a ped. derma. We've used topical steroid creams, ointments and oils. They do seem to help with the inflammation and itching. I like to use George's Always Active Aloe Vera Juice...
  4. Here's a link that describes the Food Allergen Labeling Law that will be inforced by Jan. 1, 2006. The law should help us with identifing wheat. From what I've read, I think you're exactly right. We will still need to look for barley, rye, oats. The "final" guidelines for the labeling term "gluten free" on products will be active by 2008. (As stated...
  5. My dd is 3 and we took her off gluten when she was 2 1/2. She had withdraw symptoms for a short amount of time. After a couple of weeks we could tell that their was marked improvement. I remember going through the grocery store and she started yelling "crackos," (crackers.) She also craved mac & cheese, she could have eaten that and bread until she...
  6. Claire, I would love to have this information as well. I've been doing some web searching as this has sparked my curiosity!! Here's a link on the history of wheat........ Open Original Shared Link This article is a little long. However, it gives some insight on how wild wheat grasses have changed, to give cultivated wheat the gluten that we...
  7. Thanks Tiffany! Seems like we're eating WAY too much rice in our house.
  8. I've used Vance's DariFree powder in place of dry milk in recipes. The only one I've tried it the original flavor. Open Original Shared Link
  9. I've got a few boxes of amaranth flour that I would love to bake with. I tried to make cookies with a combination of flours, including amaranth. They were really good out of the oven but the got bitter as they cooled. Do any of have favorite amaranth recipes that you would be willing to share? Thanks!
  10. I just got my Palm and I had a problem as well. I tried to use Adobe to copy and move the list but my Palm wouldn't recognized it as a complete PDF file. I had to save the Rest. List as a text file. I put the file in My Documents and then I drug the file to Documents to Go. Once it was in Documents to Go I was able to sync the file with my PDA. I...
  11. Hi rocksea, Welcome!! My family has multiple food allergies in addition to celiac disease. We're no gluten, dairy, soy, egg, pecans, cashews, almonds, pecans, peas, beans, coffee, tea, and garlic. Acutally, a lot of us on the forum suffer from other intolerances and allergies. Often times people will post recipes that are modified for food allergies...
  12. This is soooo great to help remind us that we're not the only ones who deal with this. My dd and I have the temperment changes as well. Things are tough around our house when we've both been glutened. I remember when my dd first started having problems. Before celiac disease she was easy going and enjoyed simple things. Her tempermant can change within...

    ARCHIVED Sushi?

I enjoy eating sushi to. I was thinking about taking a class so I can learn more. I tried to make it at home one time and the rolls were anything but tight. We have a great local sushi rest. and we took our dd with us. (I wasn't gluten-free at the time but my dd was.) We asked about the children's sushi which were "Rice Balls." I started asking the...
  14. My family gets the flu shot as well and we have for several years but this is the first year my dd and I are taking it with celiac disease. My dd has a slight egg allergy and she is 3. She has put her in the catagory of high risk. He is recommeding that she have the shot because he feels the benefits outweigh the risks. I'm sure it's a personal decsion...
  15. I've had skin testing and Id's, and it showed many inhalent allergies and a few food allergies. These tests are very accurate for inhalent allergies. My dd has had skin testing and RAST testing. She is allergic to mold and grass as well. After seeing the allergist, her ped. recommended doing the RAST test for foods in addition to the skin testing. I was...
  16. I used Libby's Canned Pumpkin a couple weeks ago. I called costumer service and they confirmed that it was gluten-free. They were very helpful. The rep. said they have had a strong policy for many years on listing all ingredients on the lable. I was worried about cross-cont. as well. So just to be on the safe side I also checked on the Libby's Pumpkin...
  17. I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for but I noticed Kinnikinnick has a Candidi Yeast Free Multigrain Rice Bread. The discription says, "A selection of seeds and nuts make for great taste, an appealing texture and higher fiber content." Here's the link...... Open Original Shared Link
  18. The last time I used Gluten Free Pantry Old Fashioned Cake Mix, I used the Crofer's Apricot Fruit Spreed. I baked the batter in individual, half, dome silicon pans. I severed each person their own mini cake, warm with peaches and Vanilla Rice Dream "ice cream." No on could tell they were gluten-free. I've also done cupcakes with chcolate icing. I used...
