  1. Y'all all know the discussions about having a gluten-free household/mixed? Well, lately I've been letting in more gluten for my son. Bad idea. Bad, bad idea. This morning I'm doubled over with a knot in my stomach. Haven't eaten out in two days, no new foods... Ugh. Only thing worse than a mixed household is a kid who refuses to thoroughly wash...
  2. Call your pediatrician and see if s/he can help.
  3. I don't think anyone doubts the problems gluten can cause, and that symptoms are not diagnostic of one or the other... My point is that the explanation sounds eerily familiar as an explanation of ncgi. What I hate about the explanation if ncgi (most of the time) is that it comes off as being "lesser" in the dietary requirements as well as effects - when...
  4. This sounds like one of the new explanations about ncgi??? Have no idea if your friend went through traditional testing, but we read/hear explanations like this all the time on this board re: ncgi.
  5. Ensure you get copies of all labs, and that you get all of the celiac antibody tests and the free t3/4 thyroid tests. I'd request a trial of thyroid meds, regardless of tests. You may be subclinical. Even if you have to go to a witch doctor, try thyroid meds.
  6. The weirdness of dh is boundless. I wouldn't be surprised if one grain caused you instant flare, the other didn't. That said, if you are regularly eating gluten you could have antibody testing and a biopsy of your rash. This could help answer your question. I'd advise eating spelt/rye daily for at least 3 months - then get blood testing and have your...
  7. I found the Vans at Safeway. Was at Whole Foods today and didn't look...if I'd known about the goldfish I would have. Didn't fond anything gluten-free at Target (was looking for goldfish).
  8. Vans makes a cheesy gluten-free cracker that tastes like cheez-it's/goldfish. My whole house eats them. Can't keep them in the pantry. Open Original Shared Link
  9. I'd keep a food and activity diary. I've found viruses break me out, as well as starting increased t3 mess for me thyroid (along with a strenuous massage). In short - I changed things in my body and the rash was a protest. It isn't always food.
  10. I've developed a theory that since my body was so damaged, it heightened other senses to substitute for the damaged "parts". Sometimes that was good, sometimes it wasn't. I think the body compensates in some weird ways. Pretty amazing, what the body can do, though.
  11. Sorghum, potato starch? Brown rice, white rice? Your biggest problem will be sourcing safe base flours...and I do NOT have suggestions for safe sources. The rest is rather easy - just use the same ratios as for other gluten-free blends. Have you tried almond flour?
  12. Note that is not a link to the official mcDonald's website. While the info may be good, it may not be up to date. I would always double check with McDonald's.
  13. There has to be more on the report than that. Any more writing, anything....details about the alleles??? What lab did the testing?
  14. It can be difficult in the beginning. I ate out, conservatively....in the beginning. You CAN eat out, just not reliably. You could try to eat out at a "safer bet" place - a place you've heard from other local gluten-free'ers is reliable. I've never put fast food in the "reliable" category...well, maybe specific In n Outs and one Chipotle. My point is...
  15. Remember, she can get more genes from Dad. My son has half a gene from Dad that I don't have...which leaves the question if hubs has a whole gene.... And I wouldn't do gene testing on your daughter yet - some docs will EXCLUDE celiac if the gene test isn't fully positive. So, it can work against her.
  16. Genes are comprised of alleles. Sounds like you have HALF of the 2.5 gene. You have zero alleles of the dq8 gene. The report says negative because you don't have the full gene (which is stupid). You have one half of a Celiac gene. It's enough. I have two halves: half dq2.5, half dq8.
  17. They do several types - I don't remember names but they do a few with fresh fruit juice and tequila and Cointreau / grand marnier - that should be safe, on the rocks. I haven't had one since going gluten-free but that's the type I order anywhere and am ok.
  18. I don't know, other than a glutening. Many have reported a dh type rash after going gluten-free, then doing a challenge or getting glutened. I'd look for sources of cc, or think back to your last glutening.... If you think it's dh, you may try a low iodine diet to see if it helps it go away. Most dh is iodine sensitive - and it sure contributes to mine...
  19. I had a virus and it took a month for the exact thing to stop. I got pretty anxious about the possibility of some sort of relapse or new intolerance. And uhm, geez, the other stuff you have going on is enough to send one over the edge. For me, anxiety did play a factor but most of all I had to be patient and eat really bland foods and take probiotics and...
  20. Maybe you had a virus or food poisoning? I find its difficult to recover from those, sometimes. Are you taking a probiotic? That helps me tremendously.
  21. You don't know which one to blame until one of them gets hla typing. My son can blame HIS DAD, too - because he got a half Celiac gene from HIM (I know this because I don't have it). You can get a blend - half from one parent, half from another. You don't have to have dq2. Dq8 is sufficient, don'tcha think???
  22. Since going gluten-free and figuring out iodine, I have had dh very few times (knock in wood). But one of my most consistent triggers is A VIRUS. That's actually how I know it was/is a virus and not allergies. I break out in dh.
  23. Are you using the thyca guidelines? That's what I used. Open Original Shared Link And are you using digestive enzymes or probiotics yet? They usually help with stomach issues.
  24. Oh gawd, the multivitamin. You know I read about iodine and dh while I was cooking shrimp étouffée??? Yeah, ate it anyway, because that couldn't possibly be ME.
