  1. That's great. So what did you change that gave you relief? Keep doing it.
  2. Notebooks are great. I've started two-one for holidays and one for gluten-free experiments. I leave 2-3 pages between each new experiment so I can add notes as I go.
  3. I had bm changes for at least 6 months. One day c, next day fine, then something totally undefinable - and this was after chronic c for years. Hypothyroidism will cause c. Many people have both issues, but I wouldn't panic about c yet. Try digestive enzymes and probiotics. And lay off sugar, I found that gives me c too. Get yiur vitamin levels...
  4. I'm so sorry, that sounds absolutely miserable. If you can't get to a qualified dermatologist for testing, then yes, the best thing to do is to stop gluten now. You probably could still be accurately tested within two weeks of gluten-free. Read through the DH forum. Pay attention to the posts about salicylates and iodine since those can aggrivate DH...
  5. Well, I'm glad she finally figured it out. I hope it doesn't take a similar experience for my son. Can you imagine what would have happened if you didn't know your issue, so she still wouldn't know hers? I shudder.
  6. No, the guidelines are not for a specific lab. They are for dx'ing Celiac disease. Many labs can run the same tests. She does not have to be on gluten for DNA testing; however, she does need to be on gluten for an accurate biopsy.
  7. This is what the Lab Corp test panel the GI ordered includes: Open Original Shared Link Test Includes: Atypical perinuclear antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (pANCA); Saccharomyces cerevisiae, IgA; Saccharomyces cerevisiae, IgG Use: Rule out Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis It does not include Celiac testing.
  8. Have you had your vitamin and mineral levels checked? Iron panel, d, b's, cal/mag, k. Many Celiacs are low in at least one. Have you had your thyroid checked? Ask for a tsh and TPO ab test.
  9. Both the chips and the butter will change the flavor and texture. I'd take down the butter a bit when converting. gluten-free recipes tend to need less - 1/4 to 1/3 less? And I think the Nestl
  10. This might help: Open Original Shared Link It's the new pediatric dx guideline put out last year. I don't know if she meets all the criteria for dx without biopsy but go through it and see.
  11. What about other nuts and seeds? Lunch meat, popcorn (son loves that), smoothies (make a bunch and freeze), fruit, veggies. Look for gluten-free recipes on Pinterest. You'll find lots of bloggers that way. Lots of ideas. There's even a chocolate chip cookie dough recipe using beans. And tgey say it's good. It's on my "too weird not to try" list.
  12. I've tried to post to this twice and it's crapping out. Anyway....did you read the British link? The one that wouldn't work the first time? The one Jestgar posted? Remember these things usually describe typical presentations. If everyone with a gluten rash went by typical presentations we'd still be scratching. Get my point?? Anyway, try the...
  13. Yes. It could be celiac and he needs a full age-appropriate panel. Someone else here had a child that only came up igg but scoped very positive. Kids are more likely to do that, I think, from what I've read. It will be so hard to not go low gluten on everyone else, and effect testing. I'd definitely push for COMPLETE panels on all kids AND you and hubs...
  14. I think your doctor dxed you based on symptoms and a positive test (one of many for celiac). The GI wants to scope you and look for other issues. You are stuck in the middle. AND the worst part is that your doc didn't order all the Celiac tests, and the doofus GI didn't order them either and only wants to try to prove your doc wrong. You need more...
  15. You're very welcome. Ask as many questions as you need.
  16. Thanks! Wonder why it wouldn't work?? My phone?
  17. It's for urticaria pigmentosa. Uhm, I think it fits what you describe as a condition that turns into freckles. Why wouldn't it be hives? Hives act EXACTLY the way you describe. Open Original Shared Link)/Urticaria%20Pigmentosa%20Update%20Jan%202012%20-%20lay%20reviewed%20Oct%202011.pdf Now, I don't deny it's probably gluten related...see, they generally...
  18. Have you only tested one child? Are you thinking of testing all four? I'd do it now because you could just book a whole day with a ped GI (fun) and if you go gluten-free they will be gluten light and testing will be harder. Plus, you already have this one test, which really leads you to believe you're on the right track...might as well go for it. And...
  19. I can't find info on kale. Grr. Dani? If you google "kale salicylate" you'll get lots of results. Sub kale for anything on the search and you'll likely find an answer. It seems sals levels are debated a bit, so if you're ok with something I'd use that info over a chart. Remember, they are cumulative and it may take a few days to see a reaction.
  20. I'd try #2 first.
  21. I'm glad you're having success. Are you using Pinterest recipes?
  22. Here's one. Instead of full eggs you could do egg whites. Replace butter with shortening or oil (I think you'd reduce oil a bit if using). I'd refrigerate the dough before baking. You could add some cocoa. I'd use half the amount of maple syrup to sugar. Open Original Shared Link Here's another. Again, use egg white only or egg replacer (or whipped...
  23. Now Dani, you put me on the spot. Now I'm going to have to figure one out.
