It doesn't even rise to that standard. They aren't cleaning their equipment (so to speak). It's no different than going to a restaurant that is clueless about gluten, trying to order gluten-free, and knowing it will be unsuccessful. It just happens to be pizza instead of a salad, or grilled chicken.... The fact the crust starts out gluten-free is...

ARCHIVED Taste Of The Wild Recall
pricklypear1971 replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Since I dump my dog food in a can (and toss the bag) I'm going to have to clean the can. Sounds like soap and water should do it, let it dry in the sun...maybe a bleach rinse (sanitizer). Open Original Shared Link No one has symptoms. I guess I should alert the neighbors since their dog jumped the fence, came in the house, and ate bowls of the food. ... -
ARCHIVED Taste Of The Wild Recall
pricklypear1971 replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've been feeding it to my dog for the past few weeks - month? I tossed the bag a long time ago. So far we haven't died. Hmmm.... -
Well, you may never know, or only know in time. If your thyroid is under active, you will supplement - whether it's Hashis or not. If you're going gluten-free anyway - you're gluten-free (in case it's Hashis). Just keep testing. If you are opposed to hormone treatment supplament with other things like selenium, etc. (get the thyroid books out and...

ARCHIVED Chocolate Peanut Butter Pretzels

Funny. We are the reverse - we think the snyders have a weird powdery flavor/texture. And normally I am not a Glutino fan. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Mocha Cake?
pricklypear1971 replied to 123glldd's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I don't know what a mocha cake is - other than espresso powder added to cake and frosting. If that's what you mean, I'd buy King Arthur gluten-free chocolate cake mix and espresso powder. Add about 1 tsp. each to the cake and frosting. Brewed coffee won't give you the flavor you're looking for. You need espresso powder. -
Did y'all watch the video? Did you notice the crust is flat like all the other gluten-free crusts? I swear, I've lost my love if pizza since gluten-free crust is flat. I liked crusts that would be thin and bubble up. Dominos wheat crust would do that. It wasn't super thin, though. But it did bubble. I'm not even tempted (no bubble). I keep wondering...

I'd print out that huffington post article and paste it to their foreheads (or just keep it handy).

All fish sauce I've seen (in a grocery store) is gluten-free. But you always have to ask!!!

ARCHIVED Do You Bake More Since Going Gluten-Free?

Ok, you can't blend the flavors wrong. Just don't up the fat - that's the only thing that may mess it up. -
ARCHIVED Do You Bake More Since Going Gluten-Free?

The Kinnikinnick recipe on the box: 1 1/2 c packed graham crumbs 1/4 c sugar 6 Tbsp. melted butter Mix ingredients well. Grease and line base and side of 9 inch springform pan with parchment paper. Press mixture into pan and 2 inches up side of pan. Refrigerate for 1 hour. Bake filled crust when you bake the pie. I make a combo graham cracker... -
I predict it will flop. Maybe not immediately but when they figure out most people who want gluten-free can't eat it, and wheat eaters will not like it (probably) and the "fad" goes away - so will the pizza. Unless they up the stakes and put in a dedicated line for gluten-free at each store - which I doubt. Even then, I wouldn't trust it - given the...

ARCHIVED Do You Bake More Since Going Gluten-Free?
pricklypear1971 replied to Minette's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I used Simply Delicious Square Chocolate Cookies or the gluten-free Oreos - Kinikinnick? In place of Oreos. I found Kinnikinnick gluten-free graham cracker crumbs. I was going to use Pamela's cookies if I hadn't found those-I was going to grab the plainest they had. I just reduce the added sugar or eliminate it in the crusts since gluten-free stuff seems... -
ARCHIVED Do You Bake More Since Going Gluten-Free?
pricklypear1971 replied to Minette's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I bake 75% less. I have tried - I'm not fond of gluten-free baked goods - maybe because I was pretty good at baking certain things and was attached to certain recipes - and now I have to find new ones or settle for "not quite the same". Almond and coconut flour baked goods are better, and give me a little hope. I like the texture better and grain free... -

Make some buckeyes. If you're a pb/chocoholic it doesn't get better than that. I think my butt got bigger just typing that. -

Trans-Dermal Iron Supplements?
pricklypear1971 replied to 123glldd's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have always had a hard time taking supplaments - set off my acid stomach. Then I had to... Iron was a tough one. Honestly. I take Solgar gentle iron and even that made me queasy for a few weeks - then it passed. I never vomited....just felt gross. So you can probably get through it. The nausea is usually temporary. -
Quite a few of us react differently/badly to alcohol once off gluten. I won't bore you with my wine tasting story - but lets just say its been 6 months and I still threaten to gut hubs of he drinks montepulciano in my presence. It does get better.

It's not your fault. Jerks/Twits, etc. are not your fault. It's their parents' fault. And the youth group counselors' fault. But you are going to have to learn to deal with people of all personality types. And you'll be happier if you learn to tell people like The Twits to go fly a kite.

ARCHIVED Low Carb Gluten Challenge
pricklypear1971 replied to shrty331's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Why don't you buy some vital wheat gluten and add it to something else you eat each day? I have no idea how MUCH to add, but it seems to me it would be the easiest thing and probably low/ish in carbs? Of course, it is a straight shot of gliten, so the effects may be pretty nasty if you already know gluten is an issue. I know someone else on here used it... -
I'm not annoyed with you. I'd like to slap the adults who are supposed to be supervising those little twits, though. And as far as the little twits go - they'd be scrubbing the toilets with their toothbrush if it was up to me. But alas, it's not. I hope since you graduate you are able to leave the youth group and move into an adult group - where...

ARCHIVED Dh Is Driving Me Crazy... Help Please!
pricklypear1971 replied to dakota91's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Just thought of something. If you can get one of those doctors to prescribe a DH treatment that works (probably dapsone) - meaning gets rid of the rash - and you are able to go back on gluten (you don't have other reactions like D, migraines, neuro) you could stay on gluten long enough for testing (don't know how long you've been off, but they suggest... -
ARCHIVED Celiacs...(?) Gluten Sensitivity... Custodyand Visitation
pricklypear1971 replied to celiac custody battle's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Are there free attorneys through family court? Do you have copies of her medical records and lab reports? What was submitted to the court to support the dx and what did the doctors say to retract their dx? Who said the diet is too difficult to maintain? the judge or a doctor? I'd get SCIENTIFIC articles - easy to read and succinct, and take all of them...
