Everything I ate was at home. I did eat a pizza from a gluten-free bakery but it's so safe it's silly. I won't use their name because I don't want people to think its that. I know it's not that. I got a haircut but I checked everything they used and it's gluten-free and I've used it all before. Plus, I didn't get a rash on my scalp and I always get...

ARCHIVED Incredible Irritability While Healing
pricklypear1971 replied to dani nero's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
In the beginning I found lots of things would set me off...not just gluten. Sugar or MSG or processed foods. I'm not saying these are setting YOU off, I'm just saying that other things may temporarily (or permanently) do what gluten did. It's tough. I went in the bathroom at work one day and kicked the wall. I ate Rice Works chips and went psychodellic... -
I am guessing that's what happened. Think about it, you never get everything out of your mouth when you brush. And he literally swigged the last gulp, brushed his teeth, and then we made out. No delay between. We've never had this problem before but we've never cut it that close before. Always been a few hours later, at least.

I think it was gluten. From necking with my hubs. No more stomach cramps, but a little but if acid, then queasy. Woke up at 2:30 am with weird cramps in my leg and foot. So far I don't feel like I got caned or have neuro issues, or feel spacey so maybe it wasn't as bad as December. Shouldn't have been - it was beer breath after a tooth brushing...

ARCHIVED Drywall Repairs
pricklypear1971 replied to eatmeat4good's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
There's an old thread on here, about this. Search for it. But yes, some building materials have it, others don't. Sometimes it's hard to figure out or get the MSDS, and then if it's an old construction (like my house) you'll never know. -

Well, I got into something when they were repairing my house. We weren't living there, but I'd go and work on the house. Sometimes there's gluten in the joint compound, or the wallboard. You'll never know. The time it really got me was when I ATE at the house. Yes, I'd washed my hands but it wasn't good enough. So, for me if I wore pants, wore sleeves... -

How about making your own chocolate chips? This recipe uses butter or coconut oil but I made chocolate for homemade Reese's cups and used palm shortening. is there a solid fat you can use? What about LARD? Open Original Shared Link ****** Substitute as needed for the recipe. I really font know how it will work with olive oil, etc. Margarine would be... -

Almost all food contains iodine because it's part of the food chain. It's in the soil, so its in fruits and veggies. There's a heavier concentration in milk products because most milk cows are on a grain feed and most dairies use iodine to clean the cows and milk equipment. The only berry I ever worried about was strawberries. The other ones weren't on... -

Nutella is probably ok - its hazelnuts. But it does have dairy and I'm not sure of the chocolate source. It's one of those things you'll need to eat in moderation if you can. It's like crack. Look up pumpkin seeds and see if they're low sal. I don't remember. -

Their FLOUR mix will be ok. Their cake, cookie mix won't be. You don't need gums in cookies - trust me. -

Read my responses, above. You can have EGG WHITES. Iodine is in the yolk. You can have FRESH WATER fish. Iodine comes from the salt water/kelp. -

And if it's "probably negative" based on the naked eye that's not diagnostic. They look for microscopic damage when the lab reviews the samples and writes the report. -

King Arthur flour is free of those. They have recipes on their site and they talk about making subs. Living Without magazine has lots of recipes with subs. Have you tried them? -

Sals are cumulative. So you must pick what matters to you and balance it. You probably won't see an immediate reaction from many things - berries may be a horrible trigger for you but flax may not be. However, the sals build up...so you may react when you hit your threshold of sals. So, balance your high sals with low sals so you don't get too much. -

Naked berry blend - high salicylate, high sugar Cookies - without knowing what was in it I can't say but I'm betting it was low-ish in sals, probably high in sugar If those two are your tests then I'd say you have a sals issue. The sugar levels in both of those are not conducive to starving yeast. It feeds on sugar (if you're worried about yeast). If... -

I try to make naturally gluten-free foods. So far, my guests have just been family...and I think so far they've been pleasantly surprised. Hubs and my son get the brunt of the experiments gone wrong. The Kid let it slip one day when he was thrilled with some Elana's Pantry cookies... "Cool. They aren't flat like your other ones!". Thanks, Kid. I... -
I had it (or had what they thought was perioral dermatitis). I wonder now if it wasn't dh. I found I had to baby it. Moisturizers and I kept any face creams that were supposed to "rejuvenate" skin off of it. Eventually, it went away. I did have a horrible bout of it while I was pregnant. It went away eventually, I think either after...

ARCHIVED What Supplies Did You Replace?
pricklypear1971 replied to Minette's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
As I read through this I realize how I had scaled back my kitchen in my old house - it was very small and no storage. I simply didn't have a lot of things... what I had did double duty. Anyway...things like muffin tins I kept but I always use liners (equivalent of parchment paper). My only bundt pan probably does need to be replaced but since I don't... -
I'd do it til you were sure you saw results or knew that wasn't it. I think most say one month at least. I know. Breakfast sucks when you change it. I vacillate between eggs w veggies and eggs as a sandwich. You could try making nut bread. Try Elana's pantry site for almond bread recipes.

ARCHIVED What Supplies Did You Replace?

First, don't go gluten-free til after the GI appt. in case they want to scope. I replaced my colanders, cutting boards, I tossed most plastics because I use mostly glass now, I bought new nonstick skillets because I needed them, I kept my toaster because it's oven style. I replaced wooden spoons and reseasoned my iron skillets. I use parchment paper... -
Sometimes you have to take it down to fresh meats, fruits, veggies, no grains. And don't eat out. Try digestive enzymes and probiotics - I think you already do that? Honestly, if your vitamin levels and/or thyroid is off you may be fighting a losing battle til you get them sorted. Keep a food diary - what, when, how much. It's probably just the...

ARCHIVED Stop And Shop Shelf Labels - New And Nice
pricklypear1971 replied to Cara in Boston's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
They do that at Fry's and Safeway too. Problem is they have so many signs saying different things that the gluten-free gets lost in the shuffle. And then, I see it on stuff I'm really unsure about and I hesitate to use it. And, it isn't on stuff I know is gluten-free. But they did put it on plastic containers of spinach in the produce section. Go...
