  1. My Dvice is to find a doctor who is knowledgeable about celiac disease/NCGI (hard to do but worth it) and explain your symptoms, reaction going gluten-free, and family history. I would ask for vitamin level tests - irons, b's, d, k, calciums, magnesium. If these are low it could support celiac disease. Ask for HLA testing, that could also support celiac...
  2. Oooh, I take my comment back. There's something in the air today....oooh, both hubs and I are stuffy and snotty. Wind was popping yesterday. I need a pill.
  3. Grilled shrimp in pomegranate /orange/ginger marinade Kale slaw with red onion and carrot and bacon Honeydew if it's worth a flip
  4. Oooh, I did that on my middle finger!!!! The dude at urgent care wanted to put a stitch through my nail. I advised him to use glue if he wanted to live. Hubs threw out the mandolin and I refuse to buy another one. Hope you feel better soon. Yes, it is awkward. I was so happy when mine healed to a certain point.
  5. And if I'm not mistaken, the only test performed is total iga - and it's below normal - which means he needs be tested with the igg versions of the celiac tests. Low iga is associated with Celiac disease.
  6. You just described the perfect personal chef. . Sorry, have nothing for you EXCEPT you can partially cook some grains and freeze, then finish cooking them later. That would allow you to batch cook, and shorten your cook time when you get home. Or, maybe you could adapt it to a crock pot?
  7. All I'm going to say is....folks, it's all natural. .
  8. You really nailed it, for me. Yes, it's dealing with your reality vs. the accepted norm. I was so sick and tired of doctors assuming I ate an unhealthy diet...when I know I ate a diet better than 75% of their patients. And now - I'm better without grains, period. How many people agree with THAT one (especially doctors)??
  9. Well, the longer you're off gluten, the stronger your gluten reaction (usually). And yes, of you didn't have obvious gluten signs then you can develop them or you can develop new ones. I think that's what is happening to me.
  10. Hell no. Been there, done that. They will give me acid reducers (which I can buy OTC). I'm getting my old skill of visualization back - breathe deep and imagine the pain going away and the acid stopping. It works. Like biofeedback for high bp. I just hope it's gluten (and therefore will pass), not some other food issue. That would suck lemons.
  11. And there's so much info out there about different people responding to different thyroid meds - whether it's natural or synthetic or combo...that doc is ridiculously uninformed. You need to dig up reputable publications and drag them in to her. Then get a new doc after she grudgingly writes your rx. This might help. It's an. About.com article that...
  12. I believe they want both free t3/4 to be midrange? You need the reference range, too.
  13. Well, I have limited experience with glutening symptoms because I was never one that obviously reacted (well, maybe over 10 years ago..). The one time I am pretty sure I was glutened I felt like I'd been caned - more like the flu - a rock in my stomach and all of my muscles ached. This last time I think I was glutened it was my stomach (directly under...
  14. That's great news! And happy happy birthday!!!
  15. There's a certain amount of fatigue that can be attributed to starting gluten-free, however, thyroid plays a huge part in what you are describing, typically. I would insist on t3/t4 combo. If your current doc won't rx it, find one that will. What result is normal? Tsh? What about free t3/t4? Get copies of all your labs and be prepared to find a new...
  16. It gets easier. We all have our moments where this seems impossible or incredibly frustrating. It takes a bit of time, but you do adjust and figure out some new favorites and alternatives. Jack Daniels is gluten free, does that help? Open Original Shared Link
  17. If you need low carb, gluten-free bread try reading the Elana's Pantry blog. She has a few almond bread recipes. Open Original Shared Link
  18. It's easy to replicate Celiac. Tell them to go buy some draino, and eat a bit with every meal. Then again, some people are dumb enough to do it.
  19. The other day I heard one of those tv class action suit commercials - linking IBS and Crohns and a few other things to Accutane. I have no idea if there is an established link or just a hope of one...but obviously there's some buzz about it somewhere. If IBS and Crohns are suspected results I don't see why Celiac shouldn't be far behind. Quite frankly...
  20. It is hard to watch your baby improve, and question whether you should do something that may change that. I do suggest you get yourself tested before going gluten-free, if you haven't been tested already and are still on gluten, before you go gluten-free for breast feeding (if you decide to do that). celiac is genetic - so there's a chance you may have...
  21. That should work, really. You can just use one big circle - don't strip it. The weight will hold it down and you can crease it with your fingernail.
  22. The decision to breast feed or use formula is a very personal one. My son wouldn't latch on as an infant, then I got mastitis (and decided to just formula feed him after it cleared up). He started life constipated, and d...so one day I had a freak out mommy moment and decided it was milk protein (stepson and hubs have/had milk issues). So I gave him formula...
  23. Ooooh. That's dangerously easy. Hmmm....
  24. Try some digestive enzymes and probiotics. I got that last week when I either got glutened or had major pms (don't ask...). I used to get acid attacks - too much stomach acid. This time I got too much acid, followed by too little stomach acid (I think). Too much acid = clenching knot. Too little = ball that just hangs out under my ribs after a meal...
  25. Morton's toe. I've heard of this toe trait in my family.... And we are related to...Mortons. Haven't heard about the nasty temper, though. Interesting.
