ARCHIVED Dh Is Driving Me Crazy... Help Please!
pricklypear1971 replied to dakota91's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Well, it definitely sounds like you have a gluten rash, probably DH. As far as the testing goes - DH people tend to test negative on endoscopies because the damage they are looking for tends to manifest itself on the skin. It is patchier and less prevalent in your intestines because it is amusing itself on your outside. Thrilling, huh? Since you already... -
ARCHIVED New And Need Help
pricklypear1971 replied to Ziva's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Private message skylark with a link to your results. Ask her to look at them. So, your daughter was dx'ed by bloodwork/biopsy - and she probably has her Dad's genes in the mix (if they ever look). Many ai diseases have a positive reaction to gluten-free, along with celiac disease. I don't think the particular Celiac test you were + on has reasons... -
ARCHIVED New And Need Help
pricklypear1971 replied to Ziva's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You're definitely gonna need Skylark for this one. Try Ravenwoodglass, too. You are weirder than me. I think. If im reading this correctly (and thats a big if) you do have a loose affiliation with Celiac - just not the most common genes here in the U. S. - which is why they are saying you're negative. You're high on "autoimmunity" (like me) and your... -
ARCHIVED New And Need Help

Read this to help you interpret Celiac antibody tests https://www.celiac.com/articles/57/1/Interpretation-of-Celiac-Disease-Blood-Test-Results/Page1.html You tested positive on a specific Celiac antibody test. You are anemic and have low b's. Classic lab test results. You also test positive for Sjogren's antibodies but I have no idea if they can come up... -
ARCHIVED Does It Really Count?
pricklypear1971 replied to patz16's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Tread carefully. If you have an uber- conservative and ill-informed doctor who thinks testing one month gluten-free is likely to be ACCURATE and wants to dx you this way then I suggest you find a new doctor. You will, without a 2-3 month challenge, more than likely test negative. Then what will the "record" say? You're negative. Not "unknown". Negative... -

ARCHIVED Glutenfree Cinco De Mayo Food
pricklypear1971 replied to stef-the-kicking-cuty's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Well, then I'd figure out what the Harrisburg version of Cinco de Mayo is. Every place has its traditions. There may be some food that's a must-have there? -
ARCHIVED Glutenfree Cinco De Mayo Food
pricklypear1971 replied to stef-the-kicking-cuty's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I'd stick with what you know. Most Mexican food is naturally gluten-free unless you use flour tortillas (which are not traditionally Mexican as far as I can tell) or add wheat flour as a thickener (again, not super traditional). So, of you select brands carefully or start from scratch it's easy to be gluten-free. -
ARCHIVED Glutenfree Cinco De Mayo Food
pricklypear1971 replied to stef-the-kicking-cuty's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I have no idea what your target audience is - that said there's no "official" CDM food. One family will BBQ, another will make tacos, etc. Just start with the general stuff and see where it goes. A simple recipe or two. Mexican food is incredibly diverse. I mean absolutely unbelievably diverse. You could cook different regional recipes your entire life... -
Mine starts itching and feels like an abrasion - then it comes on fast. In retrospect I've had a dozen or so different types of lesions. Would be funny if it wasn't sad - so many that were probably DH but I wrote off as something else. And I have a sneaking suspicion the herpes Whitlow on my hand as a child wasn't - yep, I'm betting that was my first...

pricklypear1971 replied to stef-the-kicking-cuty's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Well, I assume you are in the U.S. (hope so, or brands will be a problem). Tostitos regular corn chips are marked gluten-free on the bag. Guacamole is easy and nutritious. Soft tacos or quesadillas are always popular with us-we use a Mission brand corn tortilla, marked gluten-free on package. We fill with grilled chicken, beans, cheese, saut -
ARCHIVED Costco Products
pricklypear1971 replied to GFinminneapolis's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I find Crunchmaster crackers there by the case. Cheap and yum. I don't really bother with Costco food...too big of quantities for a small family. I buy some meat and liquor there...mostly household stuff. -
ARCHIVED Food Allergy Vs Celiac
pricklypear1971 replied to MichelleD's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Do NOT eat any more wheat/gluten (if in fact that's what you ate that triggered those episodes). Yes, it sounds like you're allergic and yes you could have both digestive and allergy issues with wheat/gluten. Do NOT eat those foods again to test them unless you are in the presence of a physician who is prepared to deal with anaphylaxis. Yes, you... -
ARCHIVED Location Of Pain/discomfort...relevant To Diagnosis?
pricklypear1971 replied to birdie22's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think your doctor is behind on his/her reading. Good lord, celiac disease can cause joint pain and neuro issues without any intestinal issues so why the heck can't a swollen belly be celiac disease? Sheesh. And btw I get the same kind of thing - wrenching stomach pain and gas, followed by days of acid stomach. And while not dx'ed by blood/biopsy ... -

ARCHIVED Question About Biopsy
pricklypear1971 replied to Momma4's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Only of dairy is causing GI damage, on it's own. Dairy intolerance is sometimes put on lab results as a possible cause of GI damage as well as gluten. But there's no way to know which one bothers you unless you get a positive on a Celiac test and/or respond to an elimination diet. So, no, it will not matter as far as telling if you're Celiac. -
ARCHIVED Igg Tests Back
pricklypear1971 replied to Littllemel's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
As far as I know, by food diary and elimination. Here's a link about histamines/amines. I know there's better info about it, just not sure where. Open Original Shared Link Here's one about salicylates. Again, I know there's more and better-search the board you should find plenty. Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Indicates Beginning Stages... Doc Says No
pricklypear1971 replied to PossiblyCeliac?'s topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think id do research and think about what I want to do. Talk to the doctor about getting a full celiac panel of bloo d work (if the panel wasn't done). Then, ask what his dx would be if a gluten-free diet relieves symptoms -will he dx Celiac? I'd probably try gluten-free before taking meds...what if it is Celiac? If gluten-free doesn't help what's the... -
ARCHIVED Igg Tests Back
pricklypear1971 replied to Littllemel's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I almost hate to ask because I'm sure you've posted before... have you looked into salicylates, amines, histamines - those types of intolerances? You seem to be reacting in an unpredictable pattern, to many foods - and sometimes those types of intolerances are the underlying issues. -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Indicates Beginning Stages... Doc Says No
pricklypear1971 replied to PossiblyCeliac?'s topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms

ARCHIVED At A Loss...any Ideas?
pricklypear1971 replied to alex11602's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Did they run free t3/t4? What about Hashimotos antibodies TPO Ab? Sometimes the free levels show something is up. If you have antibodies that's a hint too. If the doc thinks its thyroid why not ask to try thyroid meds and see? Some docs do that and patients get results. Tsh is a crappy measure of how you feel. -
ARCHIVED Making A Comeback
pricklypear1971 replied to Mnicole1981's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
After reading the studies/med write ups re:DH I've noticed they give a 90%+ number for people who have DH are dx via biopsy - and these are the people they use in studies. It absolutely infuriates me to read that KNOWING how many people 1) can't get biopsies attempted 2) get incorrect biopsies 3) are already gluten-free when biopsied )which falls under... -
ARCHIVED Making A Comeback
pricklypear1971 replied to Mnicole1981's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I think DH is under diagnosed in EVERY population. It's just flat-out underdiagnosed. I'm sorry it's coming back. It hurts like the devil sometimes. I irritated my finger spot last night and it's itchy today. Grrr. I get it almost healed then wham!
