ARCHIVED Dyshidrotic Eczema
Duhlina replied to BushMommy's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I've had it on my hands for as long as I can remember and, when I was younger, it was on my knees also. Since being gluten free it has all but disappeared!!! It only comes back (with a vengeance) when I've been glutened. -
Huh. I've been saying, for me, it's the opposite. Alcohol just doesn't seem to have the effect it had before. I feel like when I do drink, I can drink a lot more and still not catch a buzz like I used to. It's like my body metabolizes it differently or something now. My husband, of course, tells me I'm wrong but I swear it's the truth. The last time...

I am SO glad to hear I'm not the only one. Just this week I was thinking of posting this very same question. I'm 44 and have been gluten free almost a year. I keep getting these HUGE zits on my chin. So bad that my husband even comments like wow, that thing is going to need a name soon! I wash my makeup off every night and only use high quality makeup...

ARCHIVED 3 Years Into gluten-free Diet And Tired Of Being Different
Duhlina replied to lloydke's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm in Upstate NY too! Where are you? I'm about 10 minutes East of Albany. -
Just came back last week from a week at Disney and they were FANTASTIC with gluten free requests. Everywhere we went they asked when we went in if any of us had any food allergies. I have celiac, my husband has diverticulitis (no seeds or nuts). The CHEF actually came right out to the table to go over the menu with us and told us what we could/couldn't...

ARCHIVED Tendonitis And Broken Bones
Duhlina replied to chi1968's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have had terrible tendonitis in the past in both of my elbows, so bad that I couldn't even squeeze the toothpaste tube! I tried everything from the brace to the cortisone shots and nothing solved it. The ONLY and I mean ONLY thing that solved it was acupuncture. Since going gluten free I haven't had any flareups which has been great! -
ARCHIVED Key West Recommendations
Duhlina replied to steveindenver's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Key West is our favorite vacation destination on the planet! We LOVE it there. That being said, I haven't visited since I've been diagnosed but in all honesty I don't think you'll have ANY problems. There are SO many good restaurants and so much seafood available. I know the next time we go I don't even feel the need to research beforehand where I can... -
ARCHIVED Misery Loves Company
Duhlina replied to Avalon451's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I was watching a Dr. Oz that I had DVR'd yesterday and there was a woman on complaining of bloating and terrible gas and I started SCREAMING at the TV to TEST HER FOR CELIAC! I'm with you when it comes to that! I wish EVERYONE had to be tested!!! I think Celiac is definitely becoming more mainstream and a lot more people are aware of it, so hopefully the... -
ARCHIVED One Week So Far, Not Many Changes.
Duhlina replied to Cortney's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Patience grasshopper. I was the same as you when I first started and thought I'd feel better immediately. For me, the BIG noticeable changes started at the 3 month mark. In between I had patches of feeling ok and having hope and patches of feeling downright lousy and thinking there MUST be something else wrong with me! Just stick with it, have patience... -
ARCHIVED Swollen Hands
Duhlina posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Last night my hands were very swollen and I noticed that the vein on the top of my hand (between my index and middle fingers) is also very swollen. We checked my feet and they look ok. I've had swollen hands before, but never the vein and it got me nervous. This morning the hand swelling is a little better, but the vein is still swollen. Of course I Googled... -
Peanut Butter M&m's...sooo Sick!
Duhlina replied to MitziG's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I had a reaction to the mini Reese's peanut butter cups and vowed to never touch them again! -
I feel so bad. My dad knows all about my gluten issues (yet he won't get tested himself). Anyway, last night he called me and told me he made meatloaf and made an extra one and wanted to bring it down for us for dinner. I asked if it had any bread in it. His response? "Yes, I put a tiny amount of Italian bread crumbs in it, but it's not enough to bother...

I forgot one of my clients works for Disney and the last time I was at her house I noticed several gluten free cookbooks in the kitchen, so I emailed her and asked if she had any suggestions. She sent me this website and OMG, it is FANTASTIC. I'm printing everything out as we speak! I feel like I hit the jackpot!!! Open Original Shared Link

We are going to Disney (Florida) next month! YEAH!!! CANNOT wait! I must admit I'm a little nervous though. I don't like going to new restaurants anymore knowing we will have to grill the waitress or the manager to find out what I can/can't eat. I don't like knowing my usual options are a bun-less burger or a salad. I have done some research (thanks...

ARCHIVED Wish I Knew What Got Me Xmas Eve
Duhlina replied to birdie22's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I wish I knew what got me Christmas Eve too! After church we went to my MIL's house and she had out munchies for everyone. I was good and steered clear of the crackers, etc. I had cheese, a handful of nuts and a glass of egg nog (which I suspect she was miffed about me insisting I read the label on before I'd drink). I got glutened and I have NO idea... -
ARCHIVED What Doctors (Don't) Know
Duhlina posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have a friend who is a doctor. He is a primary care doctor - I'd guess he's about 55-60 years old, he's not a GI specialist or anything like that. I was joking with him yesterday that the dog is happy that the treats I gave him for Christmas have wheat in them so he doesn't have to share them with me. My friend read the bag and said "Oh, they are made... -
So sorry you're feeling like this. I too have eczema on my hands and it sucks! I've been gluten free for almost 10 weeks now and it still isn't gone, but seems to be subsiding. I have also noticed that the longer I'm gluten-free the more sensitive I am if I get glutened. I never had the GI problems that other people experience, but now even the tiniest...

ARCHIVED Holiday Successes And Failures
Duhlina replied to thleensd's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I got glutened at my MIL's house on Christmas Eve. STILL no idea what I ate that had gluten in it. I had cheese, some nuts and a glass of egg nog (which I insisted on reading the ingredient list before I drank it). I'm thinking the nuts had some seasonings/gluten mixed in with them. My mom makes me Rice Krispie treats every year that I immediately dive... -
<raising hand>!!! I literally have been going to doctors for TWENTY YEARS complaining that SOMETHING had to be wrong with me. I could literally sleep 24/7 if I had the opportunity. Of course they found nothing, told me I was depressed and put me on meds and sent me on my way. It all fell into place when I insisted on being tested for Celiac and...

ARCHIVED I Think My Dog Has Celiac!
Duhlina replied to pain*in*my*gut's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm a professional pet sitter and have learned SO much about pet food since I've been doing this. I'm amazed at the people who feed Ol' Roy and then complain that their dog sheds everywhere. I ask them if they ate Doritos for every meal how would their skin look? That's the equivalent! Read the ingredients....don't buy anything that lists CORN as the... -
I recently found this recipe and I swear it's the best meatloaf I've EVER made....gluten free or not! I did it the first time in the muffin tins, but every time after that I just shaped it like a regular meatloaf and baked it. Even hubby thinks it's the best! Open Original Shared Link

Had some pork chops in the freezer that were already in a marinade (that I had put them in prior to freezing) that I wanted to use up. I completely forgot that I put them in the marinade pre-celiac diagnosis and ASSUMED the marinade was ok. NOT. I normally don't have GI issues after ingesting gluten but boy oh boy, did I have a reaction this time. I spent...

Huh. I was just telling a friend of mine the other day that it seems since I went gluten free my vision took a nose dive. I can't even SEE my finger nails now without glasses on! I need them to read labels, etc. My fingernails also aren't what they used to be. I find they are peeling/breaking a whole lot more since going gluten-free. Perhaps I should...

It's been 8 weeks for me as of yesterday and the only differences I have noticed so far are that my swelling/bloating has gone down a lot, I feel a bit more alert and not as exhausted and I'm not getting the migraines anymore. My eczema is flaring up again though as is my depression. I'm hoping it's just whatever's toxicity that is still in me working its...

ARCHIVED Holiday Party At Work Today
Duhlina replied to Marilyn R's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yeah, we do too. Since this is my first year as a Celiac I was already starting to dread the thought of going....and sitting there with my water and a salad. Thankfully one of hub's friends just joined the club so when Hub told me the other night "We HAVE to go to the meeting this month for the Christmas party" I was prepared and told him I wasn't going...
