  1. YES! That was what sent us to the pediatrician. My 14 year old son has been small, underweight since age 9 when his growth slowed. We attributed it to genetics (we are all thin), his picky eating, and the concerta he was taking. Last summer his appetite dropped off, which started to concern me but when he started choking/gagging and burping when eating...
  2. It's a grill night-Steak, baked potatoes and sweet potatoes with apples. http://allrecipes.com/recipe/grilled-sweet-potatoes-with-apples/reviews.aspx?SortBy=Helpfulness&Direction=Descending&Page=6 Trying to get my son to like sweet potatoes!
  3. My daughter will be having oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. She's away for 5 weeks and had to hunt down the package at the dorm. She was determined to find them when she knew they were delivered!
  4. After 6 months both my children still have elevated numbers but they have come down. The GI doctor was not concerned as the numbers are coming down. My son's numbers were extremely elevated (above 300) and after 6 months were in the low 100's. I was told it could take a year to a year and a half for his numbers to normalize. My daughter's numbers were...
  5. Son had tilapia and hubby and I had salmon with maple glaze. I also cooked new red potatoes with garlic and thyme and some broccoli on the side. So happy my son eats fish!
  6. Which Marriott? We will be in DC in August and I'm looking for places to eat.
  7. That chicken salad sounds delicious (minus the onions). Chicken with soy sauce, fries and salad tonight. Not very creative!
  8. We go prepared-own cereal, toaster bags with our own bread and try to have frig in the hotel room for yogurt. We will eat the fruit and drink the milk and juice but that's about it. Once we did ask about the hash browns and the kitchen staff were nice and checked the ingredients for us. We decided not to risk it.
  9. That's wonderful! Here's to feeling better!
  10. Goggle to see if there is a support group in the area. My daughter was going to Raleigh NC and I found the support group a great resource for Gluten free eating.
  11. It was good ole Maine Lobstah as I'm a Mainer, but a transplant. Kids are natives though! Tonight will be breakfast for dinner. Blueberry pancakes and bacon. Need to ask my daughter what she wants the next two nights before she goes away for 5 weeks to a summer ballet program.
  12. My son loves Lobster so tonight we are celebrating his graduation from 8th grade to high school with lobster!
  13. I really think the key to the soft and chewiness of the second recipe is putting them in the freezer and DO NOT overcook them. They become rock hard if you do!
  14. These have passed the family test with flying colors! My husband's mother used to make oatmeal chocolate chip cookies for him all the time and he does like these. Open Original Shared Link I use King Arthur Flour and have baked them this time without parchment paper. My cookie sheets are new and haven't been used for other gluten cookies so I'm not...
  15. My 13 year old son was diagnosed in Jan. His numbers were off the charts like your daughter's. We too have been vigilant and the house is gluten free (except for some crackers). We replaced cookware, pancake grill, waffle iron, toaster, and cooking utensils. He won't eat something if he thinks it might have gluten. We have eaten out but we check the...
  16. Thanks so much for the suggestions. There's a Trader Joe's right by the hotel she is staying at and there is a small Whole Foods 1/4 mile away. Her biggest needs are Udi's bread and Van's waffles/french toast sticks. She eats lots of rice, potatoes, fruits and vegetables. We have also found we like the Lunderberg products. I will give the Safeway a...
  17. My son will be excited to hear about all his choices! My DD is in DC for three weeks dancing and will also be happy to hear the suggestions. I ate at Ella's Pizza last summer and it was excellent! Does anyone know if Safeway carries a variety of gluten-free products? The dancers grocery shop there.
  18. He used breadcrumbs and ritz or town house crackers so I'm thinking he can substitue the rice cereal. Poor guy wanted a saltine type cracker for his soup yesterday. The glutino ones just weren't the same. We'll try the new combinations this weekend!
  19. Ah meatloaf! We haven't tried making that since going gluten-free in January. Can you post the recipe? Hubby usually make the meatloaf in our house so I'll give him some tips on adapting it to gluten-free. Looks like a broiled steak, potatoes and green/yellow beans for dinner. I would love to grill the steak outside but the grill needs repair-it...
  20. My 13 year old son was diagnosed in Sept. 2011 with Celiac. He immediately gained 6 lbs after going Gluten Free but since the beginning of Jan. he has gained no weight and only a few inches in height. He's a picky eater, liking mostly fruits and vegetables (and popcorn). A typical day is 2 waffles for breakfast, part of an apple in the car to school, tea...
  21. My daughter is wanting a better mac and cheese. Please share your creamy five cheese sauce!
  22. I don't know if I have any advice but I'm dealing with similar feelings and situation. My daughter is 16 and only been gluten free for 3 months. She is a strong ballet dancers and will be gone 8 weeks this summer taking ballet classes away from home. For 5 weeks she'll be living at a boarding school with cafeteria style food. I have spoken with the boarding...
  23. I hope this is not the case! My DD LOVES M & M's. It was one of the first things she checked 4 months ago when she found out she had to be gluten free. They are in the trail mix she eats too.
  24. We did replace our toaster with an inexpensive toaster and we hate how it toasts. We are finding the gluten free breads toast differently. What brand of toaster do you like?
  25. I have gone gluten-free because the other three family members have to be gluten-free because of celiac disease. We've been gluten-free for about a month now. I feel awful right now with excessive stomach acid. I have never suffered from heartburn like this before with pain and burping. I just saw the doctor today and she gave me a prescription for Nexium...
