  1. I have DH and I do get "typical" celiac disease symptoms, however I don't think that they are as severe or long-lasting as others.
  2. Oh crappy! Well, at least you figured it out.
  3. Grandma Ferdon's is awesome isn't it?? I live about an hour from there and have been up to see Julie a couple of times, she really helped me when I was first diagnosed. I thought I died and went to heaven the first time I had one of her cinnamon rolls (fresh out of the oven )
  4. One of my dogs is actually allergic to wheat (she's very "delicate", my husband says that she takes after me). That was my impetus to research animal nutrition and food in the first place. Kibble needs some kind of carbohydrate to keep them together, and rice is certainly a better choice than most. Because of the allergies that 2 of my dogs have they are...
  5. OOOOOH! Now you've hit something that really makes my blood boil. I HATE petstores (that sell animals). I don't go to Petco for that reason, luckily we have a really good feed store in town that I can go to. About the grains in pet foods, it does suck. I think it's just terrible that these companies spend millions of dollars a year to convince people...
  6. Hi Barbara, I PM'd you a while ago about things in Madison. I'm going down to visit my dad the first week in September and I can't wait! I'm bringing a cooler to stock up on all the good stuff that I can't get around here.
  7. Stephanie, This is so weird. I remember seeing you post about nightshade intolerance before and thinking "man, I'm glad that's not me!" (I love tomatoes and potatoes). But I *know* that something has been bothering me still after going gluten-free, and I have been just grasping at straws trying to figure out what (without shelling out $$$$ for tests)....
  8. Is that Bayport MN? I'm not sure I've heard of it. I'll check it out though, it's not far from where I live. And actually my sister lives in Minneapolis so it's right on the way to visit.
  9. Well....they don't set out to make it gluten-free, it's just that they set out to make a better quality food and it just happens to be gluten-free. Grains are really not good for cats. Cats are obligate carnivores and ideally would eat an all meat diet with a few nibbles of greens. The only good reason to include grains in a cat food is to make the kibbles...
  10. I was like Kaiti. I always felt crappy no matter what I ate, so I just assumed that I wasn't sensitive or that it didn't make any difference. Now that I have been gluten-free for several months I realize that I am actually very sensitive.
  11. Another excellent choice is Felidae. You might have to use the store locator to find it, but it's a GREAT food at a really good price (my mom feeds it to her cat and around here it costs $7.89 for 5lbs) Open Original Shared Link
  12. I would go for a gluten-free cat food. If nothing else it will be better for your cats. Natural Balance makes a gluten-free cat food. Natural Balance is a great company that makes high quality pet foods that are reasonably priced and available at Petco. Your cats will thank you. Open Original Shared Link
  13. You know, I've ALWAYS had headaches as well. Even when I was a little kid. Then they decreased some when I went gluten-free, so I thought that they would eventually go away. But they haven't, and this week they have been particularly bad. In fact, for the past 4 days or so I've woken up with a splitting head ache. I've been wracking my brain for a while now...
  14. Stupid Tropicana! I was poisoned by their OJ. Why would orange juice have gluten in it???? I broke out for weeks.
  15. If it's not too much trouble, I would really like that restaurant list as well. pehlkec@uwstout.edu
  16. My worst one was at a restaurant. It's a restaurant that I have eaten at several times without getting sick, and another celiac I know eats there (orders the same thing as me) and has never gotten sick. Anyway, I got sick after eating there once but I wasn't sure it was from that restaurant because we had been out all day and I had eat two meals out. So...
  17. My husband and I used to both be big beer lovers, and after I was diagnosed he (of course) continued to drink beer. However we were afraid to kiss if he had had a beer or two, so as a solution he switched to Woodchuck cider. That way we can both have a drink together, and I don't have to worry about gluten. He actually really likes the cider too, so it hasn...
  18. I used to use Aveeno, but I switched to Burt's Bees carrot body lotion. It's not as thick as Aveeno, but it's made with natural ingredients and I think that it absorbs and moisturizes much better than the lotions like Jergens, Suave, etc. Those always leave a "filmy" feeling to my skin, the Burt's Bees doesn't.
  19. Hi Angi! I live in Chippewa Falls, which is in the northwestern part of the state. My dad lives in Madison though, so I get to visit him and go to whole foods and my newest find, the Silly Yak bakery. I haven't tried anything from the S Y bakery yet, but it looks good! 20. About the hottest tomatillo salsa - it contains distilled vinegar, but no other gluten ingredients. So if you're ok with distilled vinegar it's ok. Carolyn, Yes, that is the only ingredient in the red tomatillo salsa. -Joe -----Original Message----- From: Sent: Thursday, August 04, 2005 1:47 PM To: Joe Stupp Subject: Re: Reply from Chipotle...
  21. I've had accupuncture on my back, and it was wonderful. I suffered for years, and after 6 accupuncture treatments the pain has not returned (It's been about 4 years since treatment). It never occured to me to try it for DH/celiac disease symptom relief. You'll have to let us know how it goes.
  22. What city are you from? Any good Wisconsin gluten-free resources?
  23. Open Original Shared Link According to mapquest it is about 170 miles from where you will be in MN.
  24. I was looking up something else and I came across this, thought you might be interested: Open Original Shared Link
  25. I just emailed them to ask if purchasing the cheese packets was possible, I hate to throw away food even if it is only wheat macaroni noodles. I also asked if they would consider making a gluten-free version w/rice noodles, but I'm not holding my breath on that one.
