ARCHIVED Dermatitis Herpetiformissquirmingitch replied to finallynotthatitchy's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis This IS an autoimmune condition. DH = celiac & celiac is autoimmune. And celiac can spur other autoimmune conditions such as insulin dependent diabetes & lupus as well as rheumatoid arthritis to name a few. And well, I wish it was viola! But it can take 2 years or even more for the antibodies to get out of your skin & viola'. But it certainly...

ARCHIVED Dermatitis Herpetiformissquirmingitch replied to finallynotthatitchy's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis I'm on very limited time at the moment but will say some things now & be back later & tell you more okay? Did you know that dh is called "the suicidal itch"? YEH! Yes, you can get it ALL over your body. No, it is NOT localized to the elbows (stupid doc). The steroids you were on caused the negatives in both the blood & the biopsy --- (stupid...

I have read on the Planters Spanish Peanuts which I happen to have a can of here that it says: Manufactured on equipment that processes tree nuts. Period. I can't vouch for ALL the Planters nuts but that's what the one I have says. You can get nuts from Nuts.com & they are certified gluten-free. I get all my nuts from there except the spanish peanuts...

Whole foods = nothing packaged other than frozen fruits or veggies (but none with sauces etc...) meats, fruits, veggies, eggs, nuts, seeds such as sunflower seeds, flax seeds, pumpkin seeds etc.. Celiacs often can not tolerate soy --- I am one of those. Whole foods means do not eat even gluten-free processed foods.

ARCHIVED What Can I Pack For Lunch?squirmingitch replied to Sage122's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips Hard boiled egg, an apple or other fruit, & a piece of chicken. Tuna fish, celery w/ peanut butter. This makes a great bread if you want to get into a little baking --- it's not really baking as you just nuke this for 1 min. 30 sec. It's quick & easy to make. I also make it w/o the cocoa & it turns out kind of a "white bread" thing. https...

ARCHIVED Cross Contamination Question?squirmingitch replied to Sage122's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications Sage, start a new thread on that subject. You're likely to get much better responses as those who have these kind of reactions are more apt to see it.

ARCHIVED Cross Contamination Question?squirmingitch replied to Sage122's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications And Sage, b/c you have anaphylactic reactions this needs to be talked about. You are 14 & at that age where soon you will think about kissing & I don't mean kissing on the cheek right? You need to know that is not okay. That person is going to need to brush their teeth WELL & maybe even use mouthwash. This is to save your life dear. Anyone who...

I agree wholeheartedly with your line of thinking bartful. I have often thought that if after we were gluten-free for a few years & then ate a piece of gluten cake that we probably would not like it at all. This is good to know you are experiencing the change in ?taste buds? first hand.

ARCHIVED Has Anyone Else Had The Same Symptoms?squirmingitch replied to Rach572's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms Yes, your symptoms are consistent with celiac disease. Add to that your nephew & your brother & it's sort of a no brainer. My advise is to follow the advice of ravenwoodglass. And.... Welcome to the board.

ARCHIVED Can I Eat Regular Oats?squirmingitch replied to Sage122's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease Sage, without being tested it's hard to say if you are celiac or gluten intolerant. BUT your dad having celiac is a big clue. And just b/c you don't have big reactions doesn't mean you are not celiac --- just like your friend who is celiac & doesn't have big reactions. There are even what are called "silent celiacs" who have no reactions at all. But...

ARCHIVED 2 Year Old With Dermatitis Herpetiformissquirmingitch replied to kris2231's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs Kris, here is a link for reading on dh. It's a long read but if your child has dh, you will want to know about dh. This will also explain why it's so hard for a celiac with dh to positive blood work or endoscopy. https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/95643-interesting-reading-on-dh/ I might add that you consider this after reading that link. With children...

ARCHIVED 2 Year Old With Dermatitis Herpetiformissquirmingitch replied to kris2231's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs I would like to add a note that if you DO want to get him biopsied for dh then if he has any steroids either orally OR topically for at least 2 months before the biopsy then it will likely make th ebiopsy negative so I know the docs 1st thing will be to put him on steroids to help the itching but if you want that biopsy then you can't let that happen. ...

ARCHIVED I Made An Interesting Discovery Today!squirmingitch replied to justlisa's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease Wow. What a surprise Lisa. I too see celiacs but they don't want to know about it. When I found out about myself I did look up my nephew sort of long lost b/c of my sister & my horrid relationship. I wanted to let my nephew know especially as he has a child of his own now. I can only give the information & then hope they have enough sense to watch...
