ARCHIVED Glutened At My Own Birthday Party
squirmingitch replied to shelleylyn's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think I would have cried. I certainly would have been terribly hurt that my family did not consider what I needed to eat. But then I thought about it & gee, sometimes I forget for a minute or two that I can't eat the things I used to. The habit of eating a certain way for an entire life is hard to break at least in terms of the automatic thought process... -

ARCHIVED Are These Foods Safe? I Worry About Cc Issues.
squirmingitch replied to squirmingitch's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks ciamarie! I have had some Pocono buckwheat which I've been eating for some time & haven't had any problems with it. The stuff is funny ~~~ put sugar & milk on it & it tastes like cream of wheat ~~~ put butter & salt & it tastes like grits. But those are 2 of the things that were great comfort foods for me so I'm happy about that... -

ARCHIVED Can You Eat Gluten-Free Oats?
squirmingitch replied to Skylark's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I haven't tried them yet. Haven't been gluten-free long enough to risk trying them. I may end up like so many others ~~~ buying some & then look at them sitting in the cabinet for that "one day" which may never come when I have to courage to try them. -
Blonde here with fair skin. No freckles unless you count the spots from skin that has been treated like bacon & fried in the southern coastal sun for a lifetime!

ARCHIVED 4 Days Gluten Free
squirmingitch replied to Bellanovia's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
As to bread Bellanovia..... The EnerG lite tapioca loaf runs about $2.50 online. It's better if lightly toasted but it isn't bad. It also doesn't contain any soy which I have a problem with. Furthermore, it doesn't have to be kept frozen. Just keep it unopened in it's orig. pkg. in a cool, dry place until you need it. Then I open it, put it in a big ziplock... -
ARCHIVED Confused About Gluten Free Products..
squirmingitch replied to hspichke's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Welcome to the board Bellanovia. It's amazing the things we learn are connected to celiac. So many things make sense now that I couldn't figure out before or that I thought were just an odd problem I had. -
Half Dutch here & half ?English? (Mom always said her family were mutts).

ARCHIVED Are These Foods Safe? I Worry About Cc Issues.
squirmingitch replied to squirmingitch's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I need to add more protein & fat to my diet. So I absolutely need the nut butters b/c I have dh & issues with iodine regarding the dh & locally I can not get any unsalted nut butters. Then I really need some rice cakes or crackers to put them on. I have chosen soy free products as well as I have problems with soy. And the flax can be used in many... -

squirmingitch posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
As I'm still sort of a newbie & am sensitive to cc, I wanted to run my shopping list by you before I order these items. I'm rather scared of cc having been recently cc'd by refried beans. I know you guys can spot problems with the brands if I've chosen poorly. Thank you. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared... -
ARCHIVED Help!...oh, Please Help!
squirmingitch replied to waterfront's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Oh my dear Tanya, I feel for you, I really do. Yes, what you're describing is consistent with dh & therefore celiac. Yes, creepy, crawly, itchy, stingy before anything appears on your skin. And then OMG! I sit here typing after just having showered & washed my hair which almost has no crusts remaining in it. But I haven't itched in days. I got glutened... -
ARCHIVED What's For Breakfast Today?
squirmingitch replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Yes, ciamarie, no egg yolk for the low iodine for the dh. I got glutened about a month ago from a can of refried beans which was the first time I had tried hardly anything that wasn't whole foods. Before that I had gotten back on the iodine & seemed to be doing well. Thank you you guys for the tips. So more protein & fat, less carbs. Easier... -
ARCHIVED What's For Breakfast Today?
squirmingitch replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I wish like heck I could eat what you guys do for breakfast & be able to go till lunch time before getting weak & shaky. Here's say a typical breakfast for me: cup of coffee then: large serving of hash browns with a sausage patty crumbled in plus an egg white a glass of juice & a 1/2 glass of milk. Within 1 to 1 1/2 hrs. I will be starving... -
ARCHIVED Constantly Hungry- Never Full
squirmingitch replied to Xhale1227's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Did the allergy testing include testing for soy? Soy gives me bloat. I am hungry all the time too. I think it is like Brittany said ~~~ it's part of the process. -

ARCHIVED Confused About Gluten Free Products..
squirmingitch replied to hspichke's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I also agree with mushroom & rosetapper23 & ciamarie! Another reason not to use gluten containing topical ingredients is that Vit E is absorbed through the skin. Now if that Vit E happens to be wheat derived then what do you think is going to happen? I have dh ~~~ I know that NOW. But for 7 or 8 years I have not been able to wear makeup of any... -
ARCHIVED Old Country Buffet

I get shivers just thinking about it! -
Just to verify the iodine/dh connection: Quote below from the Gluten Intolerance Group of No. America: When my husband was diagnosed with dermatitis herpetiformis last November, he went to visit a expert in dermatitis herpetiformis, Dr. John J. Zone, at the University of Utah (USA). The written instructions Dr. Zone gave him included the following statement...

I beg to differ with your derm re: the iodine connection. Experience speaks louder than words. I hope you do well on the Dapsone. Are you sure you haven't been getting cc'd somewhere? Back to the iodine issue ~~~ I got accidentally cc'd & was making me crazy with the itchies ~~~ went back to low iodine & in 2-3 days had remarkable improvement...

ARCHIVED Hair Dye
squirmingitch replied to samie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use Loreal Superior Preference as I had already been using it before going gluten-free & had read on here that it's gluten free. I checked the website for Loreal & it says it's gluten-free but I was worried about the conditioner which comes included in the box as it wasn't made clear that was gluten-free also. So I called Loreal & they told...
