  1. Jane, when you mentioned the bottom 6 inches of your spine has the itchy rash, I meant to say that's pretty classic dh location. My gosh, if I had a nickle for every spot on the bottom 6 inches of my spine I would be wealthy! And the Zyrtec can help with the itching as will Benadryl etc.... but antihistamines won't make dh go away. And shroom is right...
  2. I was misdiagnosed the first time I saw a doc about mine. He said it was hives induced by nerves/stress. He put me on Dexamethasone 4 mg. which is a very strong steroid. I could not tolerate it at that strength --- bouncing off the walls, speeding my brains out but it did make the dh lay down until the minute I stopped taking it, then back it came. I tried...
  3. Some of mine have taken linear form also, even while other places on me were breaking out in patchy forms. And sometimes the linear would be the only form. DH seems to have a mind of it's own.
  4. A bowl of hot Quinoa with honey and a tad of milk.
  5. I live in the southern US & I have tromped all over the swamps & woods (read scrub) all my life. I like to tromp. Anyway, needless to say, I have had my share of chigger (red bugs) bites which itch like mad. IMHO I would take chigger bites any day over dh itching!
  6. I'm with itchy, mushroom & hopeful. Try the medicine & see if it works. I also would rather it be scabies than dh myself. And I can NOT imagine anything itching worse than dh! How many nights sleep lost? Geez, I've taken so much valium it would put a horse to sleep & still was awake all night long ~~~ itching my brains out! How many posts have...
  7. Yup. I'll second that emotion.
  8. Here are some links. You would probably benefit from reading the entire thread on all of them. There is much info. contained as well as links in those threads. The individual threads are not that long so it won't take you forever. https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/5710-does-a-skin-biopsy-hurt/ https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/67197-getting-a-biopsy...
  9. Jane, it's an easily done in office procedure. I have read though where others report that you will have a scar from it so pick your place ~~~ in other words not on your face or somewhere like that. They do a punch biopsy. P.S. There is never a dumb question on here. The old saying ~~~ The only dumb question is the one not asked.
  10. The Sees candy came today! Ohhhhhhhhhh Yuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuummmmmmmmmmm!!!!!!!!!! Worth every single penny. I'm a happy girl!
  11. Oh Jane it surely sounds like you have dh. In fact I would lay money down on that one in your case. And dh means celiac. To get it to go away you have to be STRICT gluten free. And ciamarie has good advice too. And in answer to your question in your last paragraph ~~~~ YES! I'm getting shivers just thinking about what you're going through. Been there...
  12. DH can appear just about anywhere on the body. And I've had it on my wrists. How strict are you in your gluten-free diet? Are you getting any cross contamination?
  13. The celiacs with dermatitis herpetiformis (dh) tend to have less or no GI symptoms so that could explain your lack of those things. I had few GI symptoms. However, looking back I now see where I DID have GI symptoms as early as the teens years including why I was turned off by beer during those teen experimentation years of drinking beer. I actually used...
  14. Get yourself some cheap reading glasses. Available almost anywhere with varying prices. but still cheaper than prescription ones.

    ARCHIVED Dh?

The only problem I would see with pickles is the type of salt used ~~~ iodized or non iodized? Oh, & there seems to be some conflicting info. & opinions on sea salt. Some here say it's full of iodine, some say it isn't ~~same for the info. on the internet. Personally, I'm not willing to chance it with dh. I figure if the seafood is full of iodine...
  16. Slow going is better than no going. Persistence. One day, one step at a time.
  17. Aaaaaaarrrrgh. I hadn't thought about fig newtons. Was one of my favorites too. I would go nuts on them about once a year & eat about 4 pkgs. in 2 weeks.
  18. Ohhhhhhhhh, so you have to watch for those labels that say "may contain traces of tree nuts". I am truly sorry. Reading for gluten & nuts ~~~ must make your eyes cross!
  19. Yippie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  20. Venting is allowed here. Cortney, celiac is genetic so one or more of your kids could end up with it. You might just try & start making some of their foods gluten-free without telling them & if they don't notice the difference then you can do a few more & a few more. Work them into it slowly. And then tell them.
  21. I third those suggestions.
  22. Thanks cia! I LOVE mayo.
  23. Oh Carolina, I'm so sorry. Cc'd & a cold ~~ life just isn't fair! Get well quick. I'm drooling at what you guys are having. I'm still having to watch the iodine intake otherwise I would be inhaling your meals straight off of my computer screen! Asparagus! Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Drooling. High in iodine. Gouda cheese! Sigh. Same story. Baby back ribs...
  24. Welcome to the celiac club ~~~ officially! It took a while but you got the answer. Good for you! Now you don't have any doubts AND you can tell people you have that piece of paper that proves you're celiac. Woo Hoo for your boyfriend! Sounds like you've got it all together now. Happy eating!
  25. Welcome riser! Please make sure & post your test results when you get them. There are those on here who can interpret them quite well as they are very knowledgeable on the subject. Here's hoping you find the answers you are seeking in your 9 million vials of blood.
