The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
Adalaide replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Yay for bread and bagels! I have a really awesome bagel recipe that I need to dig out now that you mentioned them. I think they sound like a nice weekend treat. This is my husband's first day off since the middle of last week so today we're having our Easter dinner. It just didn't feel right to have it at 10:30 at night when he gets home. So we'll have... -

That soup looks fabulous! I'll have to give it a go soon. Next soup on my list though is French onion soup. I can't wait. This weekend maybe. I stretched myself a tad too thin today cutting fabric for heating pads and lining. Got killer muscle cramps in my legs and could barely walk back down the stairs. Lucky me, I have some handy heating pads! Farmers... -
ARCHIVED Brandy - How To Tell If It's Gluten Free?
Adalaide replied to ItchyAbby's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm going to second Laura. The most reliable source of information about a product is always going to be the manufacturer. Among the least I would list 9 year old information by some random person on the internet who can't source their information. I'd list that as about as reliable (or less than) unsourced wiki information. -

I'm finally feeling much more like a human today. Getting some things done around the house that I let go all weekend. (Like my husband's laundry. ) But still taking it easy and letting it happen at whatever pace it gets done at. It's laundry, if it doesn't get done it'll still be dirty and waiting tomorrow. No big deal. Dinner will be leftover pork.... -
ARCHIVED Restaurant Eating Vs. Food Prepared By Family
Adalaide replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The restaurants many of us choose to eat at have specific protocols in place to prevent CC and to help ensure a safe meal. That said, we do all understand that each time we eat out that there is some amount of risk involved unless we are eating in a gluten free establishment. The sort of training and protocol established in these restaurants is something... -
ARCHIVED Feeling Glutened After Eating A Lot
Adalaide replied to ColtonBarnes's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I never feel particularly well after eating too much. I think it's the body's way of saying stop being a glutton. (Doesn't stop me from occasionally going to my local all you can eat Brazilian steakhouse.) -

Tonight will be pork tenderloin and (to steal from Lisa) stuff. I was going to make it tomorrow but through some sort of super weird magical thawing voodoo it is ready to be cooked today. I'm not sure how. But I'll take it! It's okay that some of your family doesn't like Peeps. I eat enough every year for at least 5 or 6 people. -

That is such a great looking cake. I'm sure it was as delicious as it looks! My husband had quesadillas again because he doesn't do meatloaf. He's so weird. -
ARCHIVED Types Of Flour?
Adalaide replied to thehauffamily's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I use Premium Gold AP flour. My gluten eating husband enjoys all of my baked goods. There are gluten-free recipes on their site that I use, and I use it as a replacement for regular flour in my favorite recipes straight from my old cookbooks. There are also many recipes I have from online and other sources that have specific flours listed, and I continue... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Cat Food
Adalaide replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I know some might consider it wasteful, but if your concern is your bowl you could just use a paper bowl. We always used paper bowls for my husband's cat because canned cat food smells like vomit (imo) and I didn't want that being brought back in the house dried on and needing to be cleaned up. YUCK! -
ARCHIVED Kudos To Costco
Adalaide replied to TGK112's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My Costco doesn't have all of those items. But what they do have is the pizza (which by the way is delicious!), two brands of gluten-free bread (not frozen) and one of those brands they have in two types, pasta, an all purpose flour and various other baking products like coconut flour, flax and chia seed and other such things. They also have a very amazing... -

Thursday will be my husband's next day off work. Since he gets home super late, that's when we'll have Easter dinner. We're flexible like that. Tonight I think I'm going to make that meatloaf I wanted on Friday. Maybe some puffs and definitely some veggies. And there is still a little cake left to finish up for dessert. -
With teflon pans it takes very little time for them to get very small scratches. While mine was still relatively new, I held it up to the light and noticed it had small, but noticeable scratches. These will be a problem. It will simply be easier to have separate pans for gluten and gluten free cooking if you are using teflon than to inspect them for scratches...

I made it home in one piece. I am exhausted. I am in indescribable pain. And I am so insanely happy that I could bounce off the walls. I sat in the same room with Patrick Stewart. (I was so thrilled when he walked in the room that I almost cried because it was really real.) And... so many other awesome people. It was the most incredible experience. I can... -
I agree with everything cyclinglady said. Even for those who share kitchens, things like teflon pans, cast iron, wooden and plastic utensils, cutting boards, colanders and much more simply can not be shared. And having a gluten free kitchen is much more simple and provide peace of mind that can't be achieved any other way. I can say this because I am in a...

My husband wants quesadillas for dinner. I guess that's dinner instead of meatloaf. Chicken cheddar bacon ranch quesadillas. With yellow cake and strawberries for dessert. I think I'll make pancakes again so I can have them as a travel breakfast for the morning. There is just no way I can get up, dressed and out the door with a packed bag and eat before I... -

Oh... My...Gawd.... Patrick Stewart just surprise showed up and will be there tomorrow night. I'm trying to be all, that's cool. But I'm more like GAH OMG OMG OMG!!!! It's Friday morning and I'm so excited by this that I can already hardly breathe. I think tonight I may throw together a meatloaf and all the stuff for with it. Also, with the strawberries... -

I forgot that I picked up strawberries at the store yesterday, because apparently I have some sort of moronic death wish for how I want to feel Saturday night. But I'm going to make a yellow cake because I found a great recipe that looks better than a pound cake. And I think strawberries in our pancakes sounds awesome. I haven't touched a strawberry in over... -
ARCHIVED Polenta Recipes
Adalaide replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
At a local restaurant they deep fry sticks and serve them with parmesan on top. Delicious! The sticks are just about 1/2 inch or so thick and wide and maybe 4 inches long. I used to chill it in baking sheets (the same way you would to make sticks) and cut it into shapes and fry it to serve with chicken parm. I also just love fried polenta. -

I could get my husband to eat anything if I could mask it in Mt Dew! We're having breakfast for dinner. Bacon flavored sausage (yes, it's a thing), pancakes and eggs. Scrambled for him and poached for me. Hmmm... I wonder if I could mask a pureed veggie in pancakes? I should try that sometime! -

We picked up some beef tips at the store today. I looked in my spellbook and found a recipe for some fried something with mustard and wine and Worcestershire. So I threw together a marinade with similar ingredients and tossed it in the fridge. I fried half with an onion for me and did his half without because he's anti-delicious things. I had more rainbow... -
I had my moment a few weeks after my diagnosis. We live with my in-laws and they brought home KFC and left it on the kitchen counter. I went to the kitchen for a snack or drink or something, I don't remember, and smelled it and just completely lost it. I was a train wreck, and I thought I was completely crazy for feeling that way about freaking CHICKEN! But...

ARCHIVED Gluten-Free Melatonin?
Adalaide replied to JodyM75's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I wasn't saying that every pill does, just that every one I had been prescribed and called the manufacturer on because it was what my local pharmacy had, had wheat in it. Which led me to give up on the entire possibility of sublinguals because I don't have time for snipe hunts. I'm glad you were able to find some and that there are some out there that exist...
