ARCHIVED Some Things Are Worth Waiting For
Adalaide posted a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
For those who insisted that there be pics, they will follow I promise! I'm waiting for a call from the photo place. Stupid hour. So, last night I somehow managed to actually fall asleep. Sometime around 2 I think! I was beginning to be afraid I would be too tired to live through today. My alarm went off at 7 this morning and I bounced out of bed. I... -

Haha, I don't think anything is stirred up so to speak. I just think the myth that the IRS is something to be afraid of should be dispelled. And fear should never stop someone from taking a deduction they are rightfully entitled to. Also, totally off topic (well, sort of not really) isn't accounting awesome! I'm unable to pursue finishing my degree right... -

I could do the 80 thing in the winter for a while I suppose. Honestly though, I escaped that hot, humid BS back in PA and there is no way I would volunteer for that again. No way, no how. Bring on the 95 and dry, but hot and humid? Sorry but you'll be on your own. Tonight I almost made tacos. Then I just didn't. Headed out shopping for tomorrow's excursion... -
#1 reason to keep homicidal tendencies in check? Can't control food in jail. I wish I could find it again but there was a recent article about a local jail here in Utah. The inmates who are in for short(ish) periods of time and are non-violent offenders are put to work in the kitchen. They are taught a trade (more or less) working in the kitchen, it...

ARCHIVED gluten-free Bisquick

You can add all sorts of things to your pancakes, you don't even need a recipe! I add bananas, chocolate chips, pumpkin, applesauce, chopped apples, strawberries, nuts, chocolate syrup, honey instead of sugar. Sometimes combos too. You can eyeball if it needs a little more liquid or a little less, pancakes are easy that way, and it really is a matter of preference... -
ARCHIVED Cross-Contamination

I hate hate hate the US tax code. It is so convoluted and complicated that frankly the IRS people don't even understand it. Even people who use things like H&R or such should be able to get free "advice" (I choke on that) when they get their taxes done. I've always worked for CPAs, and would take what any "professional" with a few hours training says... -

People are scared of the IRS for no apparent reason. The IRS is in fact, not scary, as long as you aren't actually lying to them on purpose. Yes, read up on it. No, the deduction will not be eaten up by speaking with a tax adviser unless you are seeing the wrong people. If you already pay someone to do your taxes (and if you take deductions, you almost certainly... -
ARCHIVED Cross-Contamination

I agree! My husband used to do the same thing and I finally was like, this is too hard. You keep touching my stuff or at least reaching for it, and I'm spending so much time hovering and stressing out that I can't just cook. We're done. No more gluten and gluten free at the same time. Cooking is far less worrisome now. -

I makes perfectly acceptable pancakes or waffles. (I'm more of a waffle person, but that's just my OCD. You don't get syrup all over the plate when there are perfectly good holes to put it in.) I do prefer Hodgson Mill by far for waffles though. The waffles or pancakes, if made the right size, heat up just right in the toaster just like an Eggo. What I... -

I got me one of those! I swear he practically breaks out in a sweat if a vegetable that isn't either lettuce or a fresh, uncooked carrot gets within about 10 feet of his face. He was mostly living on frozen pizzas before he met me. I have vastly expanded his horizons and am slowly working on him. I swear though... omg... he was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes... -
ARCHIVED Hershey's Reeses Peanut Butter Cups Are Gluten-Free
Adalaide replied to chronicbabejenni's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
A two year old post is not relevant information today about what is or is not gluten free. A two month old post isn't either. A simple rule we must all live by, no matter what, is every label, every time. I wasn't dealing with the issue at the time, but it is possible that there was a lapse in the gluten free status. I find it also highly likely (having worked... -

ARCHIVED Cross-Contamination
Adalaide replied to eleanorj's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I would never consider storing things like spoons, cutting boards, etc. together. Having a cutting board be one side gluten the other gluten free is also so close to impossible, I'll just call it impossible. As soon as you prep your first gluten, the gluten free side will be contaminated. Period. The whole thing with cross contamination is that it is largely... -

ARCHIVED Pity Party
Adalaide replied to DavinaRN's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If you can't have ice cream, sorbet is always a great option! I indulge frequently, and have the hips to prove it. I've been tempted a few times to try ice cream substitutes but I don't want something that pretends to be something it isn't, which is why I go for sorbet. It is what it is, and doesn't lie to me about it. Perfect for pity parties! -
ARCHIVED Pity Party
Adalaide replied to DavinaRN's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
We all have the occasional pity party. I've been known to have some pretty epicly bad moments myself. Seriously though, what business did he really have going out for fast food when if he had any sense at all he would have read your mind and known you were having a bad day craving it? I swear, men never learn. And then they wonder why we're grumpy. -

If you're the kind of person who counts the good deeds you do, this totally counts. Some days, the fact that you made it through without committing homicide is a good deed. Quite easily rectified. I'm sure there are more than enough of us willing to help with that. -

I think I'm going to have some squash tonight with my burgers. I'll probably yank a pack of cookies out of the freezer too for a snack or something later. I sort of feel like I should be all jumping on this whole new year, try some new diet thing but frankly I'm scared to try anything until I'm done testing all my tyramine foods to see what bothers me... -
ARCHIVED What Did You Have For Lunch Today?
Adalaide replied to love2travel's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
You are positively evil. We are supposed to be all supportive and crap. I'm having a quesadilla.... I swear it isn't a taunt, I just need to go grocery shopping and there is nothing else to eat! (For the record, I have found raw cheddar from the dairy I get my milk from and it doesn't seem to make me blind. Woo!) -

WOOOO!!!! I'm waiting until I'm free to eat bacon to make some. I know I could just make it and refrain from eating it. I know that in theory I have the willpower to refrain, after all I've made it this far with all this other crap. But I'm also honest with myself, I'll tell myself to double up my topamax and dig in and probably still end up half blind. ... -

My Grandmother keeps saltines and Ritz in her house. She also keeps a jar with Milky Way which are my grandfather's weakness, but they're the teensy little ones and they maybe go through a bag 2 or 3 times a year and only because the "kids" (meaning grown grandkids or smaller great grandkids) are getting into them. Soda in cans is kept around for upset stomachs... -

Can pronounce all those. I took a chem class a year ahead of schedule in high school, we were informed the first day it would be graded on a curve. I um... ruined that for everyone else and was "responsible" for more than one person failing the class. Best teacher, best class, I loved that guy. He wore a bow tie too. Damn shame it was his last year teaching... -

I was pretty geeky growing up and have become more so now. I am sort of the mother of a chemist. Okay... so she is a few months from finishing high school and heading off to college but she knows what her plans are. At any rate, I can pronounce some pretty "unpronounceable" things. I guess I get to eat more stuff than a lot of other people.
