  1. I got an email this morning from Costco and the first thing that jumped out at me was microwavable stuffed animals and I thought of you. It says something about how they're for kids, but whatever. I think I may just get one for myself! I just have to decide between a bunny and a hippo. I guess giraffes make poor heat packs with their long necks.
  2. I'm not a drinker any more, but used to be. I was always particular about what I ordered and would recommend the same now to any celiac. Don't order a drink simply by name. Order it by brand. I can't really make recommendations as to brands that are gluten free as I haven't investigated, but once you know you'll be able to order a drink by telling the bartender...
  3. That would make me criminally insane. I was under the impression it is one of those "your reaction may vary" sort allergies where some people are like your husband and others only itch enough to appear crazy. I have been known to be wrong. I know more about the whole being allergic to water thing. (Which is equally stupid and crazy.)
  4. This is going to sound really stupid, but it is actually possible to be allergic to the cold. No, as dumb as that sounds I'm not making it up. I would certainly go see a doctor. I'm sure there are a lot of possibilities.
  5. I just knew it wasn't the #40 that was the problem. I swear my mind is going. I'm not old enough for that yet! You can get blood stains out of sheets? Who knew! Meh, they're soft and comfy and no one else looks at them so whatever. I'll worry about that next time when I haven't perma-stained them by putting them through the dryer 100 times by now. Yes...
  6. Yes, yes it could. This is what happens when you put a bunch of us girls together! And yes, weird traditions are by far the best. If they make other people look at you kind of funny and question your sanity, you are definitely doing it right!
  7. Some people have such weird traditions. I'm assuming you still have electricity tonight to cook Fred the Lasagne? Hopefully it stays that way for you!
  8. I actually read that on their website. It has a Q&A and they talk about how their frosting has in ingredient made just for them. Lame. I'm actually pretty disappointed to read this. I have been considering picking up the cookbook. I don't indulge in baking particularly often, but when I do I will go to nearly any length to get the ingredients I need...
  9. I still think you are literally the last person I know who I would want to debate (even hysterically) the proper meaning or usage of words with. I'll just let it go that trendy then is trendy now. Even if by that logic I should be able to be cool wearing bell bottoms.
  10. The pizza crusts I got for Christmas said on the tag they were from the Gluten Free Fairy. She is looking out for all of us maybe! I'm glad you had a good Christmas. At least the kids weren't sick terribly long, somehow kids always seem so resilient. I wish I could borrow that from them sometime!
  11. I am not going to get in a battle over word usage with you. I will not only lose, but ultimately go down in flames, spiraling to an epic and tragic end. I will simply admit that sometimes, just as I let my mouth get away without my brain, I let my fingers get away without my brain. Or possibly I have misplaced my brain altogether. At any rate, it seemed funny...
  12. Encore George. What exactly is Encore George? Well, every year we name our ham (or turkey for Thanksgiving) and this year we named him George. Before bed I'll have my stock finished and the rest of George will be canned to be parsed out through the remainder of the year. Also, I think I just made my husband feel bad. I'm all about lemon or lime, not...
  13. Every mainstream grocery store here has them. They are always near the Rice Krispies but never exactly next to them. They are a main stream cereal, they are never with the health foods/gluten free foods here. I have never seen them in a health food store. I don't recall seeing them in Wal-Mart. It is also my personal opinion that they suck. Everyone should...
  14. You were the trendiest person alive. Wasn't that like... back in May? Times change!
  15. But they're the kind of people who make this trendy. Don't you WANT to be the trendiest person alive?
  16. I am, by no stretch of the imagination, a fan of the FDA. Maybe what I said came off poorly. I did not imply that they are unsafe, which is why I included the statement that I know that a lot of people find them helpful, and I think that is just great, but that they aren't for me. I have in the past read stories and studies on vitamins and probiotics that...
  17. Walgreens sells metal back-scratchers that are easy to clean and keep you from having blood under your finger nails. Wait, is that not the type of help you were looking for? It took me all of about 2 days to scratch myself to bleeding. I saw my doctor immediately and got put on steroids. I think it was 20mg prednisone twice a day for 5 days. This with...
  18. You certainly had an allergic reaction. You also had a classic gluten CC reaction. I have to agree that you should do an allergy test to determine what it is you are allergic to. Until such time as you know, I would entirely avoid eating out and most processed foods because there is simply no way for you to know what it is you had an allergic reaction to...
  19. I know a lot of people find them helpful. I was told by my doctor early on to get mine from my foods, and I do. My husband has tried repeatedly to get me to take a multivitamin, or has told me when I was buying yogurt all the time and such to just buy probiotics, things like that. Every time it comes up, I tell him basically the same thing that Dr. Green...
  20. I found very early on I had a deep emotional need to replace everything I was used to having with those gluten free replacement foods. I now rarely buy any of them. It comes with time, but I feel a whole lot better for not eating all that processed crap. And that is what it is, crap. I shudder to think that I used to eat food with ingredient lists that long...
  21. I wish I had remembered candied bacon! I used just a few slices in my cornbread pudding and had a bunch leftover and just cooked some for my husband. Normal, regular, frying in a pan. Obviously I'm a terrible wife, feeding my man ordinary bacon on Christmas. I'm glad your men were happy. Mine seemed happy just to have a hot breakfast, that doesn't happen...
  22. Snow I will take. We got another half a foot so far today and it is still coming down out there. The idea of hurtling myself down a mountain in the freezing cold? Pass. I will sip some cocoa and think of you though! You're a riot! I'm a little slow tonight so I had to reread that to get it. I've polished off half a bottle of non-alcoholic sangria...
  23. All of the Wal-Marts in my area have a gluten free section. Of those, none of them separate things that are common products that simply happen to be gluten free and popular with us such as Chex. The section is used exclusively for specialty products such as pastas, crackers, and cookies. Annie's mac & cheese is with all the other mac & cheese, cereal...
  24. We all make mistakes, we're only human. At least you made it through the movie though. (and I'm sort of a little jealous!) Feel better soon, and stop beating yourself up. I'm sure you feel crappy enough without adding a self inflicted beating to it. It sounds like you had an otherwise excellent Christmas.
  25. Some people have a one track mind. I got some! We have half a foot of fresh snow and it is awesome. I hope everyone who got some is staying safe and warm today. I felt a little stupid not having orange sugar for the orange cookies, but I bought what was available. You know, they're just the cookies out of the back of the December Living Without. I...
