  1. Such a tragic loss for your family. (And so many others right now.) I know too well how hard it is to head into the holidays after a loss but have always tried to remember that those we love loved us back and want us to be happy. It will bring them great joy above if we can find something to smile about and still find a way to enjoy the holidays, even just...
  2. My "butter" is Smart Balance. Not sure which one but one of them and I use it for krispy treats. Go for it! I recommend Cocoa Pebbles with peppermint or pumpkin marshmallows.
  3. I... there aren't even words for that. I'm not necessarily anti-enamel, but specifically what I prefer is the old, quality cast iron I grew up using. I also like the non-stick-ness of a good cast iron pan and there is frankly nothing in the world like a good Griswold. The two would be used entirely differently, at least by me. An enamel one would be...
  4. I know this isn't always the time of year people think of shopping for themselves, but my birthday is around the corner and it is time to be thinking about what I want. I would really like some new cast iron cookware. Now, when I say new what I mean is new to me. I'm into quality cast iron, and I have always seasoned my own. When I went gluten free I did...
  5. I hadn't thought of this but if I'm planning on stopping for a hot chocolate while I'm out of the house I simply don't leave without my travel mug. It has paid for itself by now because instead of paying something like $1.25 for a hot chocolate I'm paying $.75 for a refill, plus no issues with cups. The fun part is always harassing the convenient store people...
  6. I use... I don't know some random dairy and soy free something or other so I would assume you can use anything that calls itself margarine or butter. I'm far too lazy to go up a flight of stairs to check but if I remember I'll report back after lunch.
  7. I'm not sure why duct tape works for some people but it isn't light. As I stated previously, I had a wart on my toe as a child. I grew up on a farm and while I did have plenty of time to be a child I didn't have time to do stupid things like be injured so I wore shoes. I also wore footy pajamas until I was about 8. So if simple absence of light solved the...
  8. Excellent advice. I always keep an emergency kit in my Jeep, year round. I simply keep seasonally appropriate stuff. And always always always a book, yes! I like to keep fruit snacks and since it isn't that big a deal with the nuts for me, things like Trio bars or Kind bars. I also keep a Mio or a box of those powdered single water flavor packets because...
  9. I do have eczema and have since I was a teen. If possible (and not embarrassing) I would try to get a few pics or maybe just check out what you can find in the DH forums. You want to be sure you aren't confusing eczema for DH. I'm special.... I have both! I was advised by my dermatologist when I was first diagnosed with eczema to use Eucerin lotion...
  10. This is misleading and caused me to spend money I didn't need to. If you have a large metal colander that is like a bowl with holes in it, there is nothing wrong with it and a good scrubbing will do. The issue comes from the ones that are mesh, I would also replace plastic. Keep: Open Original Shared Link Discard: Open Original Shared Link
  11. I really should learn to do 2 things. First is go to bed at a reasonable time. It is leaning towards midnight and well, here I am. Second, I should learn to think things through before speaking or typing. I have the feeling that is going to bite me one day and leave me quite a sore butt. I got ambitious enough after a nap to actually cook something...
  12. My husband and I at one point considered getting a dog. I did a lot of research into it because we already have two pets, a cat (outdoor due to my very extreme allergies) and a bunny. What it came down to is that a lot of dogs are born hunters, some more than others and this simply can't be turned off or trained out of them. While possible to trick yourself...
  13. I'm not sure I remember. One of those young whipper-snappers will be along shortly to get us back on track. (There is something magical about the day your child becomes an adult that just pushes you off that age cliff.)
  14. I don't generally do perky, but for scallops and risotto there is little I wouldn't do. Yes, do enjoy your dinner tonight and happy birthday to the grump. Me? I seem to have this problem where I stay up way too late and when my alarm goes off I'm swear that tonight I'll go to bed at a reasonable time. Then before I know what happened the clock...
  15. Are you sure that you aren't confusing your glutening symptoms with plain old.... well old age?
  16. I've spent more than usual but that doesn't amount to much to be honest. All told we are probably reeling it all in at under $200. I used to bake for a full week before Christmas and spend the day before delivering fresh cookies, brownies, breads, cupcakes and other assorted cookies. This year at first I was at a loss, while I enjoy my gluten free goodies...
  17. Four to six weeks. It is positively awful, it's like being drunk for a month or more. I'm slurring words, bumping into things, losing my balance, can't carry on a conversation because I forget I was having one (sometimes mid sentence) and have the memory of a goldfish. That is without the pain and exhaustion. I think I'd rather be on the toilet for 6 weeks...
  18. I was unaware that they can sometimes be prescribed for constipation. I was going to suggest that if you are unused to that amount of fiber in your diet, consuming what is such an extreme amount for your body in such a short time would almost certainly cause boatloads of cramping and other types of upset. I'm not the least surprised that you had issues. As...
  19. I never let myself be without a bag of Farmrich meatballs in my freezer and some pasta and Classico sauce in my pantry. When all else fails and I am beyond ideas or ambition I can throw together something resembling food in about 15 minutes. I also keep a huge bag of frozen chicken breasts which, frozen veggies, fresh potatoes and (I know this is a terrible...
  20. Well, I guess I'm not as stupid as I thought. Or maybe I am and I just dodged a bullet? I don't appear to have a lactose problem. I still won't be going back to milk because I'm a huge fan of being rash free but at least I know that I can occasionally indulge in cheese without pills or pain. Which leaves me with what the hell was in that sauce? It wasn't...
  21. My baby cousin who was about 1 1/2 at the time spit out bacon and wouldn't try it again. I promptly took the opportunity to point out to my husband that it is his blood relation, not mine. Seriously, who spits bacon out?
  22. I was just checking to see if there was a better way. You know how you'll be watching TV and a commercial will come on and it is some frustrated lady and she says "there has to be a better way!" and suddenly some dude has a magical solution that you can buy for $19.99 and if you call in the next 10 minutes you get 2? Yeah, I was looking for something like...
  23. I live with a level of paranoia that is probably unhealthy to be perfectly honest. This just made me laugh. I really wonder how people get ideas like this and why they then feel like they need to spread these ideas to unsuspecting victims.
  24. Are we allowed to say that here? I had leftover fried pork and apples with pumpkin sauce.
  25. It isn't the lack of sensitivity or ignorance that makes me glad I don't work in an office any more, it is the flat out rudeness and stupidity. Saying right in front of a celiac that you wish cupcakes made you sick? Good thing I don't work in an office with those people, I would be so fired. My first thought when I read that was "well they make me sick and...
