The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
Adalaide replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Well that's easy. I grew up on a farm making jam. I know exactly how that got in the jars. I put it there! I didn't know when I was little that gravy could come in a jar. To this day I believe that it is a crime against humanity considering how easy it is to make yourself. If you weren't so darn far away I would come help. That sounds good... -

Fine.... fluff if you want to call it that. The jar does. But for some reason, when I was a small girl, I imagined a giant marshmallow sitting in a factory sneezing into jars. I like to just get a spoon sometimes and get a heap of it when I'm in the kitchen alone. -

If we send him out to shovel snow and the rest of the husbands too, they won't notice us spending all of our time drooling on the cabana boys. It is a brilliant plan! Far too lazy for cooking tonight, I had a little extra pasta from last night that I heated up and threw together with some Classico and the rest of my fresh cheese from lunch. Finished... -

Oh, if you're in charge of ordering you can be sure to count me for one of those big buff ones. I'll even take pale and blond if you have them there. Heck, I may even be inspired to find the energy to shovel sidewalks if I can watch them go by all day. I'm on my way!!! I suddenly don't care what is for supper. -
ARCHIVED What Did You Have For Lunch Today?
Adalaide replied to love2travel's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
You, quite frankly, are as crazy as me. I drink milkshakes all winter long. My husband thinks I'm a nut. I'm like... you married me so I guess you're the one with the problem! I actually cooked today. I felt like a burger so I grilled one up on my new Cuisinart grill. Made some arepas and made some queso fresco for it. I meant to fry some green beans... -

I'm pretty sure that where there is THAT MUCH snow to be shoveled all of the time, there is no need for cabana boys. But if we're getting one for no reason, we may as well get enough to go around. I have no clue what is for supper. I actually cooked for lunch so maybe I'll just have leftover arepas and a salad. Or something. I'm sure it'll all figure... -
ARCHIVED Safe Sandwich "bread" Substitute?
Adalaide replied to jackibar's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I love Udi's and Rudi's breads, both are good especially if toasted. I will say though, neither can compare to arepas for a sandwich. I use PAN brand meal, it does have a cc warning but the bakery I frequent uses it also and tests it for gluten. It has never in all the time they've been testing it, come up positive for gluten. I have also never gotten... -
It is totally normal to be emotional at this point. There were times I even cried right in the middle of the grocery store. I didn't get sad and tear up and shed a few tears, I sobbed like a child, right there for everyone to see, making a spectacle of myself. I'm sure it was quite amusing to see a grown woman making an idiot of herself standing in front...

ARCHIVED Sick And Tired Of Being Sick And Tired...
Adalaide replied to DucksnPucks's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I missed years because of this horrid disease. Like other parents I've seen here, my children had a "safe" place to play where I could sleep and I knew they wouldn't be able to hurt themselves. When they finally went off to preschool I was so thrilled that I could send them off and nap guilt free, only that came with a whole new set of guild. It is awful... -

Credit where it is due, Alucard found the video. I would have had us all waiting until Dec. 2 for it. I'll take credit for being generally awesome though and getting us pointed that way. -
I can't understand why all these people seem to insist that for some reason we are incomplete people without wheat in our lives. I don't want wheat, I especially don't want frankenwheat. Over and over again we are getting the message from these people that our lives are somehow worth less because we don't eat what exactly what everyone else does. Frankly...

Aren't doctors awesome? I got the same treatment... you have celiac, good luck! Obnoxious. The link Karen shared is great. Ask any questions you have after you check it out, we're all here to help. And keep in mind that no matter how you feel, you aren't crazy and it is normal. -

I had some spaghetti sauce laying around my fridge and my husband found poison nuggets at the store so he had his chicken and I had pasta and a salad... with CROUTONS! My first in a year, they were so heavenly. I think I had more croutons than salad in my bowl. -
ARCHIVED Meals That Can Be Eaten Cold?

I am personally a huge salad fan. I like chicken or eggs on my salad for traveling for that protein boost but really whatever floats your salad boat. -
ARCHIVED Repercussions Of Cheating! :(
Adalaide replied to a84c72's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
As pointed out, this wasn't a reaction to a single post. There was much loving guidance given over weeks. It didn't sink in. Many of us, frustrated and seeing someone literally killing herself in front of her children and husband, thought that at this point maybe cold, hard reality upside the head would sink in where everything else failed. It wasn't out... -
ARCHIVED Help For My Husband
Adalaide replied to Katty's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I just thought I'd say, even though it has been said, that you are amazing. My husband has been loving and supportive but you have gone so far above and beyond what so many of us could dream. You are the model spouse and any celiac would be lucky to have you. I image that in this terribly trying time that your husband's life is made much simpler and easier... -
ARCHIVED Going In For Endo On Friday, Questions
Adalaide replied to confused123's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My blood tests were all negative so I wouldn't automatically worry about the endo results. My biopsy was positive which is how I ended up here. (I'm so glad I did. ) I always get paranoid about the anesthesia. I know I shouldn't, but I do. I don't usually worry early, but then during the last 24 hours or so I get super anxious. I've never had a problem... -
ARCHIVED Repercussions Of Cheating! :(
Adalaide replied to a84c72's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
As Irish put it, celiac is an actual disease. An autoimmune disease that had many people on death's doorstep and many more headed there, me included. It sounds like you are headed there too. Lots of us have a sense of humor but there is nothing funny about eating at McDonalds. I don't think any of us are laughing, many of us are collectively banging our heads... -

OMG... you said a swear!!! I postponed my tacos until tomorrow. I wasn't thinking and had a cup of OJ with my orange chicken last night forgetting that I am supposed to be limited my citrus. Oops, half blind. I'll be right as rain by morning but not up to fumbling around the kitchen tonight. I let my husband grill steak. -

That is the entire part of the show that matters. The first half of the show was something else entirely and is completely unrelated. It was good to see a piece that covered Jennifer Esposito that focused on her struggles and the disease and not on all the nonsense with CBS. And yes, regardless of your feelings about Fox, it is a well done piece that doesn... -

You should have champagne cake. Just one more way to enjoy the good stuff. Last night I made rice sort of successfully. It wasn't burnt or undercooked, or both at the same time! It is mildly overcooked but that is at least progress. So, orange chicken tonight to use it all up because by God we'll eat what I didn't ruin. If I feel super ambitious while... -

I didn't feel particularly great yesterday, I've been getting that run down feeling and last night it finally bit me. I think I just have some random bug or another. Thankfully I did the whole turkey thing on Saturday and got it all stored up early so I was set for this I guess. Mashing up some squash tonight and a very little turkey on the side with some... -
ARCHIVED Frustrated With Conflicting Msg Reports And Link To Celiac
Adalaide replied to TDL363's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Your confusion is likely the same as my own was early on. This was brought on be old information that is no longer relevant (due to today's labeling laws) and information that is relevant only in other parts of the world not really saying such boldly. As Peter pointed out, here in North America we have nothing to fear from MSG, at least in the celiac sense... -
ARCHIVED Chilis In Savannah Is Not Following Gluten Free Guidelines
Adalaide replied to Bruisin's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
There is a difference between restaurants that offer actual gluten free choices (P.F. Chang's for instance) and restaurants that are on the gluten free bandwagon and have no freaking clue what the hell they are doing. Places such as Chili's and Applebee's have a "gluten free" menu to appeal to those morons who are gluten free as part of the fad. These places... -
ARCHIVED Discrimination Against Celiacs?
Adalaide replied to alucard4545's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
There was an excellent piece on Fox Files Sunday evening. It covered three different people who have celiac. Jennifer happens to be one who was mistreated and misdiagnosed by the medical community for pretty much her entire life. As we all know, healing is a process and even the least bit of CC can lead to serious complications. The piece focused on the struggles...
