ARCHIVED What Did You Have For Lunch Today?
Adalaide replied to love2travel's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Beef gravy over fried potatoes with flatbread. There is nothing in the world quite like gravy to cheer you up on a bad day. -
The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
Adalaide replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Tonight is pulled pork on arepas. I'm sure I'll think of a vegetable between now and supper. Or mabye not, I don't really feel like cooking and I already have to make the arepas. They're made of corn, that counts as a vegetable right? I need to hit the store this afternoon and see if there is any milk left and maybe I'll just have a little tomato soup with... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Ingredients
Adalaide replied to deb-'s topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Four seperate things come to mind. First, are you doing everything possible to prevent CC in your kitchen? Second, was the hamburger fresh or frozen? If frozen, was it purchased prior to being gluten free and possibly contaminated? Third, crumbs in the mayo? Lastly, whenever I use any condiments in the kitchen such as mustard or ketchup, or touch anything... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Hot Cereal Recomendations?
Adalaide replied to AandGsmomma's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I love love love cream of rice. BRM mighty tasty hot cereal is pretty awesome too. I got my BRM oats on sale for less than a buck a pound. Oats don't have to be expensive. I'll admit though, with oats or the BRM cereal my favorite way to have it was always with an over easy or sunny side egg on top. I'd break it open and let it get all runny all over... -
ARCHIVED Board Outage - October 31
Adalaide replied to psawyer's topic in Board/Forum Technical Help
My husband and I were hatching some sort of conspiracy theory about how the servers were hacked by wheat farmers or something. -
The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
Adalaide replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I spent my whole weekend whining about how I was going to starve to death. I think I'm over my temper tantrum now that I've called a half a billion dairies and found milk. Tonight was brown sugar baked acorn sqaush, fried potatoes with rosemary and honey balsalmic vinagrette chicken breasts with a nettle tea latte. Iodine? Who needs the crap? -
ARCHIVED Found Something For Inflammation
Adalaide replied to AVR1962's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Okay okay, I was cooking 3 things. Taters, green beans and a burger. But it felt like a 600. -
ARCHIVED Milk Options
Adalaide replied to Adalaide's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
So, on my way home from work this afternoon I stopped in at the local garden market figuring I can pick up a squash, a last of the seaso tomato and ask about milk. Sure enough there are two places "localy" where I can buy raw milk. I talked to both and the one only 5 minutes away cleans the cows after the iodine wash! They say that the wash would make the... -
ARCHIVED Found Something For Inflammation

I totally LOOKED at my teapot tonight! I almost even put water on to boil. Maybe later, when I'm not trying to cook 600 things. -
ARCHIVED Found Something For Inflammation
Adalaide replied to AVR1962's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I keep doing the on again off again tea. I get out my pot, get my nettles in it and pour in the water. I'll have a cup and have a cup left for the next day to warm up. Then, I'll forget for a day or two to make some. I'm so absent minded lately. Of course, now that I pretty much can't eat anything maybe I'll just make the tea and then eat the warm soupy... -
ARCHIVED Milk Options
Adalaide replied to Adalaide's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use Real Salt at home. I have for quite a long time, I live in Utah where it is mined so it's beneficial to the local economy and frankly it's far better than any sea salt I've ever had. I am going through the worst hell of my life right now and I simply can not risk the fact that I don't know the iodine levels of the sea salts in the milks on the shelves... -
Well, no one else has eaten here apparently but just in case someone googles this and is wondering if they are safe... I finally took the plunge a bit ago. I can say that I did not get sick. They were far better and cheaper than Pier 49. The crust was thin and crispy and the toppings and sauce were perfect. I ate the whole thing in one sitting, which was...

ARCHIVED Burger King Fries Now gluten-free
Adalaide replied to freeatlast's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
On top of the concerns about what they are dripping into the fryer, there is an additional concern. I went into a BK in my early gluten free days. I ordered fries after grilling the guy at the counter. While I waited I watched someone use the scoop on onion rings, then fries. When I said I'd like to just get my money back I was told they could use the allergy... -
ARCHIVED Medications Containing Gluten?
Adalaide replied to KnightRobby's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Like raven I call the manufacturer of every medication I take. I call before filling prescriptions by simply asking the pharmacy what manufacturer they will use to fill with. I can either ask them for a contact number or google it on my phone. Or at this point I have most manufacturer's numbers stored in my phone. I do ask if it is gluten free, but also ask... -
ARCHIVED Milk Options
Adalaide posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
So, I am waiting for a call back from the last dairy within a reasonable driving distance of my home for information about milking practices. Every other dairy so far has confirmed that they absolutely use a betadine wash on their cows prior to milking. I am assuming that this one will confirm the same thing. Are there any rice milk options I can purchase... -
I don't full on break out in hives. Yet. I wouldn't be shocked if it just starts happening eventually though since my itching has gotten progressively worse over the past few years. Being gluten free hasn't helped. My doctor has recommended a good lotion such as Eucerin immediately upon exiting the shower and before becoming criminally insane from itching...

Well, the doctor's visit went well. My doctor wasn't available today so I saw one of the PAs that I love to pieces. She was super helpful and agreed that it definitely sounds and looks like DH and that doing a biopsy is probably a waste of time and money since I already have a confirmed biopsy diagnosis of my celiac. There is something that just breaks inside...

ARCHIVED Is Eos Shaving Cream Gluten Free?
Adalaide replied to AandGsmomma's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
One of the ingredients is avena sativa (oat) so no, I would say it is not gluten free. I found this quite disappointing as it is by far the creamiest and most moisturizing shaving cream I've ever used. I stay clear of all products that could contain gluten since I am a prone to touching without thinking about it. I've also recently added DH to my list of... -
I have a lot of family back home in nepa getting ready. My brother stocked up on beer. They won't be hit hard but they always lose power for a week or two in bad storms.

Thanks guys! I took some Benadryl before bed last night which is always a risk on how it'll effect me. I passed out for about 12 hours and I'm still pretty loopy today. I'll make my husband calamine me later I think. I can't afford to be loopy tomorrow with a kid to watch. Plus I plan on going to the doctor to review my options. I want drugs. I've made every...

I will never, under any circumstances, fill a prescription without verifying with the manufacturer first that it is gluten free. I only take one medication on a regular basis as this point, every month when I refill it I verify that the manufacturer hasn't changed. I also call the manufacturer every three months to verify that it continues to be gluten free...

I never thought I'd be posting in this forum and in fact this is my worst nightmare. I already suffer from aquagenic priuritis, pretty much water makes me itch. Showering is literally torture for me and leaves me racing for a bottle of lotion. Add eczema and generally dry skin and my itchiness already has me on the verge of criminally insane. So about...

ARCHIVED Milk
Adalaide replied to GlutenFreex4's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
A nurse practitioner advised me with no reasoning or solid advice behind it to cut out all dairy with the exception of yogurt which she told me to eat every day. She told me to read on the internet how to be gluten free and sent me home. I've always drank a few gallons of milk a week and while I cut back significantly I found I just couldn't stop. I went... -
It is my opinion that it is 100% unsafe to clean a potato with a brush you use to clean pots in a non-gluten free household. I would pretty much need a gun to my head to eat those potatoes. Overly emotional? That's what happens when I get contaminated by morons who don't understand CC.

ARCHIVED Coping With Celiac With Dresses!
Adalaide replied to 1desperateladysaved's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I do remember a time when I wore almost exclusively dresses. I just like dresses, I grew up wearing them and simply prefer them to pants. That hasn't exactly changed but I've found myself in an awkward position. My left leg swells, the whole thing, noticeably. If I'm going to be on my feet for any length of time I absolutely must be wearing sneakers. So,...
