  1. I have a double sided view on this. First, I agree that it is a great idea to explore the option that a simple change in diet could change the need for so many of the pharmaceutical drugs being pushed on us. But, even with a diet change this will not actually eliminate the need for medications for diseases such as depression and ADHD or many other medical...
  2. Anything involving proscuitto always sounds 110% awesome. And you wouldn't be starving for a week if we had our muumuus.
  3. That pizza sounds great. I think I'm finally gonna order some Venice crusts this week to try and see how that goes. My husband is a complete jerk. He is making me drink orange juice because it'll help me get better he says. It may as well be battery acid I'm pouring onto the back of my throat. I do feel mildly better though, I'm coughing less and my fever...
  4. Through a weird set of circumstances it was never suspected I had celiac until I was being scoped for something else and the doctor kinda was shocked by the condition of my intestines. He did a biopsy and had blood drawn. The biopsy came back positive but my blood work was negative. My daughter had negative blood work and has an appointment with a GI...
  5. I've always gotten a flu shot. My husband is diabetic so his doctor won't let him not get it. Because I've always worked with the general public and because me getting sick will put him at risk I get it for him. I am the world's biggest baby about needles. I whine, close my eyes, hole my breath and generally complain the whole time. I wasn't really thinking...
  6. I had a simple scope done a few years ago on my knee and that was a heck of a recovery. You're right, pushing it this year could do more harm than good on that one. But that does sound like an awesome time! I went to Brigg's Blues Fest back home in PA which was always a blast but haven't found anything that can compare out here in Utah. We have lots of ethnic...
  7. Apparently my no energy Thursday evening turned into feeling like I had razor blades in my throat by bedtime. I took myself off to the doctor on Friday just to make sure it wasn't strep. Nope, just a fun head cold yay! I didn't eat yesterday at all, I was in too much pain to consider putting food against my throat. I found the energy tonight to cook some...
  8. Organic won't matter if it's being grown in soil contaminated over 100 years ago which is what the problem is. The problem is specific to rice grown in areas where cotton was previously grown. Simply know where your rice is from and buy from a different area of the US or buy from out of country.
  9. You know, I should have mentioned I could see myself harassing the manager the same way. I was at one of the local stores with a dedicated gluten free section. There is a kind of prepackaged meal I've seen people here recommend, something picnic-y or something I don't remember the name of. Anyway, not all of them are gluten free. I saw a few at the store...
  10. Oh my gosh Estella I totally forgot about beans since I'm bean free currently! I used to love me a good taco salad. Beans, salsa and sour cream with tortillas and olives. Mmmmmm... hopefully one day I'll have beans again.
  11. My PMS and period symptoms related to my endometriosis are about a million times worse since going gluten free. I also get super tender breasts and it's horrid. I can't even wear a normal bra it's so painful so instead I wear a sports bra. I can't go without because I am very unfortunately gifted, and so for a week a month I walk around with the sports bra...
  12. This reminds me of the time my husband grabbed a bag of puffed wheat cereal to be funny and tossed it to me. He assumed I'd catch it because it's reflex to catch things thrown at you. I immediately identified it as wheat mid-air, let it hit me in the chest as I jumped backward and it fell to the floor. I acted like he threw a bomb or something at me. It's...
  13. If this were possible I'm pretty sure there would be warnings about it somewhere. On top of the shell of the egg, don't forget that there is also the skin inside between the shell and the part we eat. If you are truly that paranoid you can shell them under running water which is tbh about 100 times easier than shelling them any other way. Edit: I realized...
  14. I wouldn't do blueberries and syrup together on cream of rice. My best recommendation would be some crumbled bacon and syrup together. I also like to stir in a jar of baby food. I also grew up on grits and/or mush for breakfast so maybe it's just an acquired thing eating something of that texture.
  15. I had the exact same headaches. Always just to the left. I thought that maybe it was tension or something for years. Sort of kind of like a tension headache... only not. It was literally every day that I had at least a very minor headache, most days a moderate headache and sometimes it escalated to a full blown migraine. This didn't clear up off of gluten...
  16. Unilever has a frozen Reese's peanut butter pumpkin shaped ice cream snack. Not exactly candy but ooooh so good. I'm super sensitive and no reaction! In fact maybe I should have one for breakfast. I hunted down Open Original Shared Link for you. Sadly it looks like the pumpkins aren't safe for us. This sucks because the holiday shapes of Reese's have...
  17. I wanted to cheat today, I had so much going on. But... with the husband working he expects an actual dinner with the whole cooking thing involved. I semi-cheated. I just pan fried a steak, mashed up the two leftover baked potatoes from Monday and popped open a can of green beans. So pretty much I didn't really cook at all. Throwing a steak in a pan...
  18. I was terribly bad last night. We had pumpkin pie shakes. With the evenings cooling off we were just starting to feel fall in the air and couldn't help ourselves. Not to fear though, we totally put flax in them so they were practically healthy! I'll tell my hips that too.
  19. I'll put just about anything I can find in the produce section on my salad along with just about any protein that flips my lid that day. While I am very cautiously introducing new foods, spinach is what threw me into this tyramine spin so it may be the last food I ever try to add back, if at all. It was my very favorite salad green though. I highly recommend...
  20. Due to ongoing GI issues and other health problems for years I accompanied him to a recent appointment with his endocrinologist. When I suggested he may have celiac the doctor was all over it, when the blood tests were negative and I pointed out our insurance won't pay for a biopsy the doctor said he simply needs to be gluten free. So, yes, he is gluten free...
  21. Warts, no matter where on the body, are caused exclusively by HPV. There are over 100 strains of this virus, don't panic, HPV is not only, not always, or even usually an STD. My favorite source of online info for medical conditions is always the mayo clinic, so Open Original Shared Link to their page of information. It will include what it is and common treatments...
  22. For anyone who lives near a Macey's in Utah, this week they are having an amazing deal on Krusteaz brand gluten free waffles. I noticed an endcap of waffles stating they were $1 with the in-ad coupon and there were a few rows of the gluten free ones there. I verified with the checker that the gluten free ones are included and there is no limit on how many...
  23. I got sent out into the world by my doctor's clinic (but not my actual doctor) with basically a good luck and use the internet. As I had gotten sicker and sicker I tried to be more and more healthy by adding things like whole wheat to my diet. I was an emotional train wreck when I first posted. Everything I had done to try to get better was all for naught...
  24. I did mention the pain but not how awful it is. I spend weeks on narcotic painkillers and while I've discussed with my doctor the fears we both have of the possibility of me becoming dependent we have both agreed that it is worth the risk. I also end up with the brain fog for a good 4-6 weeks which I'm still climbing my way out of now. Honestly, for the first...
  25. One of my very favorite holidays!!! It's even celebrated in game in World of Warcraft and I'm sure to dress up and keep plenty of in game rum on hand.
