  1. OMG you're hilarious. I just imagine someone running around your kitchen with a bag full of bread crumbs throwing them in the air and prancing around. Opening jars and flinging some in. The wrath... may it be swift and without mercy.
  2. I suppose it could be cumulative but that rice, against all odds, does sure sound suspicious with the timing and everything. If it were me I'd be giving them a call tomorrow. I don't know how forthcoming they may be over the phone and depending on how confident you are that the person you spoke with was/wasn't a moron you may want to call back and talk to...
  3. By the way Gemme... too late I friended you first. Neener neener neener I hope that your family will take those words to heart. We should all cherish those we love and do what we can to protect them. I didn't say this before but I like the idea of sharing how we got gotten. Not to whine and moan about it, but because it can help others avoid the...
  4. I have also never seen peanut butter with gluten in it. Amendment. I have never seen peanut butter that comes home from the store with gluten in it. While I suppose it's possible some off brand or another I've never seen may be susceptible to CC, it is a naturally gluten free food. Yay!!! (I still advocate reading every label, every time, and calling...
  5. All of my local Wendy's have dedicated fryers for fries. I'm not sure if it's a policy with the local franchise owner or a national chain policy but certainly something worth checking out. And the Frostys are gluten free also so you have something to dip your fries in!
  6. What do grapes and watermelon have in common? I promise, this isn't some sort of trick question or riddle! Earlier this summer I got some awesome deals on watermelon and quickly realized that one of my very favorite fruits was giving me heartburn. Weird I thought, I grabbed my Tums, polished off my watermelon and didn't buy any more. I could be...
  7. Thanks guys. I guess as long as the x-rays don't indicate any bone problems there isn't any reason not to go ahead with the implants then. Fortunately in this case money is not a concern. While money is tight and my health insurance sucks beyond all possible reason I do have superb dental insurance. The annual limit isn't high, but I'm not worried. Although...
  8. I wish I could just give you a big hug. Next best thing though... internet hugs. (((((HUGS)))) Celiac kills and live is too short and too precious to waste not being diligent in the kitchen. Hopefully Gemme you'll take this to heart and realize that CC can be avoided and protect yourself. No ones life should be cut short over food. It's terribly tragic...
  9. I haven't cheated because of how scary the complications of celiac can be. Sadly for me, the last time I got got was on the 13th of this month, which was two Mondays ago. Before that it had been probably 3 or 4 months. I also live in a combined family with one kitchen and while it was a heck of a learning curve there isn't any reason not to be able to stay...
  10. I love the rain! It's the only thing about PA (other than my family) that I miss. You could share. I've been eating leftovers for lunch every day. I feed my 1 1/2 year old cousin I babysit for 4 days a week and I usually pop a can of vegetables (he'll eat about 2/3 in a sitting ) and we split whatever leftover meat I have from the previous night. Pork...
  11. I wouldn't call it famous, but it sure is tasty! I keep almost talking myself into it again... as if that's difficult. Against the Grain baguettes? I'll have to try those, I've struggled with finding a bread or bun that makes me happy, but frankly am so satisfied that I don't care if I have to put it on rice. I'm slacking this year, I've hardly had any...
  12. I can't stand the price of pumpkin seeds so instead I keep them as a fall treat. I buy pumpkins by the dozen all fall and do my own seeds, it's super easy, even if it's time consuming. I'm still in my first year gluten free and hadn't even really thought about how likely (or not) it may be for them to be contaminated to buy them ready to eat. I would just...
  13. It's been a good few months since my last call to them but it was my understanding that all the flavors were gluten free. This doesn't include things like granola and such and I would certainly advocate calling them. But the little (I think 6 oz?) cups sold individually with foil on top are all gluten free. Three words. Red. Velvet. Cake.

    ARCHIVED In-N-Out

It was my understanding from the news story that the "farm" is actually shut down pending the results of an investigation. So no one is buying their cows. With any luck someone with a brain and some humanity will be put in charge and stop electrocuting them. What I don't understand is in what world mistreating even a single cow is worth it in the end. Each...
  15. Not only do I not buy certified gluten free grains (other than oatmeal) but I buy most in bulk. We have three local stores that sell in bulk, one isn't really safe, they have small bins which all have scoops and everything is easily contaminated. I skip their bulk section. The other two primarily use the large bins where you pull a handle and the food comes...

    ARCHIVED In-N-Out

I love In-N-Out, I know a lot of us do. Now, I'm not all save the animals and such, obviously since I eat them! And I also understand that person's humane treatment can be another person's inhumane treatment. For some (who imo are extremists) animals who are "caged" at all are treated inhumanely. I grew up on a beef farm, we rarely had a sick or injured cow...
  17. Sorry, I guess I should have been specific. I covered the whole gluten thing with my dentist in great detail before I ever made an appointment and am quite comfortable at his office so no worries there. My concern is actually about having an implant to replace a missing tooth, the type where the drill a hole into your bone and insert a metal rod. I'm not...
  18. I have been working with my dentist for a few months now and am at the point where I have to make some choices. I have two missing teeth. One is next to a tooth that needed a root canal so it was pretty idiot proof to decide on a bridge there. On the other hand, the other missing tooth is next to two perfectly healthy teeth. I hate the idea of grinding the...
  19. There are lots of recipes all over the internet for refrigerator pickles. Open Original Shared Link is the one my hubby likes so it's what we use. I recommend waiting a bit longer than a day before you start eating them though and to be honest, they aren't exactly to my taste. Oh my gosh, the ping!!! That is one of the best sounds in the whole world...
  20. Wow, what a jerk. I'm sort of a loner kind of person and always have been, so when I began to be isolate by my symptoms keeping me home it wasn't a big deal. Now that I don't want to do things like go watch a bunch of people eat at Kneaders or eat pizza, that isn't a big deal to me either. I mean, if they don't value me enough to want to go to the place that...
  21. Ohmygosh... I can finally SIT!!! Just past 11 here and I'm finally getting to some leftovers and a heaping bowl of cucumber salad for supper. I had a KIND bar to get me through the night. I am beat, that's for sure. I want to do another lug but it'll have to wait until next week. For now we have 18 pints of bread and butter, 41 pints and 11 quarts of...
  22. I'm still more or less feeling like hell from my incident with gluten last Monday. Aches, pains, and generally exhausted. Unfortunately, the world doesn't stop turning and wait for me. (Although I'd like to think sometimes that the world does revolve around me. ) So, that makes today PICKLE DAY! Tomorrow too probably. I've learned over the past few years...
  23. The "doctor" is a complete quack and is selling snake oil. What is in his product is not disclosed as the natural remedy market isn't regulated by the FDA. There is even a "not intended to cure, treat, blah blah blah..." statement on his website if you dig hard enough. The only treatment for celiac is a lifelong adherence to a gluten free diet. He is...
  24. Your mom got bad information, sorry. There is not malt in Frostys. There is not gluten in Frostys. I eat them frequently, way more than I should and never get sick. Many of us here do. Open Original Shared Link to what is actually in a Frosty. Wendy's is one of the good guys fast food places. They're awesome about CC practices and are very forthcoming about...
  25. Yesterday I made a pork tenderloin. Today I threw a roast in the crock pot. Tomorrow and Monday I'm on strike!
