The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
Adalaide replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
That is such a great word! Poor hubby is missing his nutritionally defunct hamburger helper so he looked up a recipe to make some. I've been known to eat all sorts of things that I wouldn't call good but aren't really bad either so as long as it doesn't suck I'll at least be satisfied if not happy. I've got some cucumber salad in the fridge to... -
Go to the ER, don't mess around.

Psh, my doctor told me to lose 25% of my weight. That puts me at losing about 60 pounds. It seems so unfair though. The muumuus got lost. I lost my wallet yesterday. I'm forever losing my keys. Why is my butt so attached to me!

ARCHIVED Spaghetti Sauce From Hell
Adalaide replied to Adalaide's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
In four years I have never thought of this. I'll run this by him and see if he'll eat if if the vegetables aren't all like CHEW US! Last night I had vodka sauce, I don't think he'd eat that if he had a gun to his head. It was delicious! Lots of good recipes, I'll probably try them one at a time and see how it all works out. He doesn't have anything... -
I wanted spaghetti last night, so that's what we had. I like Classico sauce, my husband does not. Mostly because Classico has these things in them called vegetables which happen to be the bane of my husband's existence. He's always just made up a batch of his mother's sauce and frozen it in small single serve containers for himself. Newly gluten free and...

Look who's talking miss blueberry fool. I couldn't just buy blueberries and whipping cream at Wal-Mart, I had to go to Costco... I'm STILL eating that stuff! I'm gonna need to sew like 5 muumuu's together.

ARCHIVED Am I Really Being Gluten-Free?
Adalaide replied to june27's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I react swiftly, violently, and in a way that screams "this restaurant staff is never to be trusted again!" It is horribly painful and I am quite lucky has only happened to me once away from home. At first I felt sorry for myself over this, I now consider myself lucky and feel bad for you and those like you who have little or no reaction who are left wondering... -
I've eaten the Wonderful Pistachios with no reaction. I haven't ever contacted the company to verify that they are processed in a gluten free facility, and would probably do so before having them again once I am able to add nuts back to my diet. You're right that just because a food in it's natural state is gluten free it doesn't mean that it remains gluten...

ARCHIVED Broth Powder
Adalaide replied to Razzle Dazzle Brazell's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I love the selection and am thrilled that I got a membership. I get large sliced "bricks" of fresh mozzarella. They have an off-brand of something like Cocoa Pebbles that I'm looking forward to when I can have chocolate again. There's another cereal I get I like a lot that's all multi-grain and healthy and is probably natural. They were really awesome though... -

Oh my gosh, I love making pulled pork. It is so delightfully yummy! I have a local pizza shop that brews their own root beer in the basement. I use that root beer to cook the pork in and it is just divine. Aren't you glad you opened that box? This is the last week that I increased my dose of topamax so I'm still adjusting and super tired, which was fine... -
ARCHIVED Broth Powder
Adalaide replied to Razzle Dazzle Brazell's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Hey, I don't know if you're looking specifically for the convenience of a cube or powder or if you're just looking for the flavors. I was at Costco the other day and while wandering around found a case of chicken stock that happens to be organic (which isn't like woohoo or anything but I know some people are into that) and is super tasty. There isn't a weird... -
One of the symptoms of celiac is what I learned from this site to call brain fog. Fortunately for me, although I suspect I suffered from celiac my whole life I only suffered from brain fog for about 3 or so years. I felt like I lived in a surreal world. I got very ill shortly after being married and while I remember big moments, I remember absolutely no small...

ARCHIVED May Contain Wheat
Adalaide replied to Castle's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I appreciate the honesty from companies and steer clear of the products with that label. I was curious about it and tested it for myself. When I was feeling pretty well I decided to eat some dried blueberries with that label and had a very strong reaction. It's sort of a mixed bag for me though, as I take those words on the label as a warning of possible... -
I knew I knew that taste! I used to smoke clove cigarettes on occasion. That could also explain my sudden and nearly uncontrollable urge to SMOKE SOMETHING. Which I assumed was because I am in so much pain and had work very hard not to hit the dentist as he explained to me in such a patronizing way how painful dry socket is. Thank you sir, but I'm sure I...

So a week ago, on Tuesday I went to the dentist. I had a root canal and extraction and everything went swimmingly. I was feeling worse than normal afterwards but who wouldn't after having both done at the same time! After two days I was halfway through my bottle of narcotics and thinking, this is bad. When I ran out I was like, so it'll stop hurting now right...

Oh gosh, I ate everything I could get my hands on. Just because I could! I'm much better now after a few months. At first though it was part of how I coped, which wasn't healthy but it kept me from going crazy. I found out I could eat something so I'd eat it. Not because I wanted it but just sort of to because I needed to feel like I could eat things. Now...

ARCHIVED When Was Your Celiac Triggered?
Adalaide replied to Victoria6102's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've been sick literally my entire life. I remember that even in our first house which we moved out of when I was 6 that I was constantly on antibiotics. I lost my voice all the time and eventually had my tonsils out in 5th grade. I had UTIs all the time as well as kidney infections as well as lifelong GI issues. When I was 16 I started randomly passing out... -
I worked at Subway during the outbreak of the whole Atkins craze, if they aren't offering new wraps, they aren't gluten free. I know their website doesn't list any gluten free offerings so it would have to be something your local franchise was offering.

ARCHIVED Kissing And Cross Contamination
Adalaide replied to PennyH's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This is just my opinion, but if you start carrying around a toothbrush with you to first dates, you'll never have a second date. That seems just a little overboard to me. What are you supposed to do? Hand someone a toothbrush after the meal and be like "hey, just in case you decide to kiss me..." At the same time though, you do have to protect yourself and... -
I used to work at a Subway. There is absolutely no way that they can prepare food for you safely unless they are getting every single meat, cheese, topping, everything you want from a fresh bin that isn't on the line. Even then, you have to weigh the risk. The foods on the line though are littered with breadcrumbs, it simply can't be avoided since it is the...

The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
Adalaide replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Not really feeling up to cooking tonight. We've got storms going through, bringing humidity but not dropping any of their stinkin' rain on us! Stupid clouds. Too hot and grumpy to be in the kitchen so I just used last night's leftover shredded chicken and turned it into quesadillas. There was a beautiful fat golden tomato ripe today too so I cut that up... -
ARCHIVED No Cooker Looking For Easy Gluten Out
Adalaide replied to outlaw-525's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I definitely suggest a crock pot for people who want good food but aren't into cooking. There may be a little prep involved in the mornings but other than that, all there is to do is dish it up and enjoy. -
ARCHIVED Your Favorite Storage Containers
Adalaide replied to Minette's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I think the ones I have are Glad brand, not totally sure though. Not that it matters much, they're the relatively cheap ones that I can use for long term and leftover storage. I have a pretty big collection of them from the small one cup ones for small things to the large 5 or 6 cup ones for my flours and sugar and such. They're pretty short and fat so they... -
ARCHIVED Terrified Of Diabetes
Adalaide replied to ljgs's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My husband was diagnosed with type 1 when he was 9. Other than the fact that I highly suspect he has celiac and have just gotten him to go gluten free with me he is in perfect health 20 years later. My niece is 10 (I think) and was diagnosed with type 1 when she was 5. They gave her a pump so she doesn't have to mess around with syringes or anything and she... -
The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat

I grew up on a farm raising cows, I don't think I've ever gone more than 3 days without eating beef. I wouldn't have a clue how to recommend safely introducing red meats back in to your diet. Unless someone here has some insight it may be helpful to visit a nutritionist. I've been adding some ground turkey into my diet a bit here and there replacing some...
