Sage, I am 34 and I will tell you that there is no such thing as too old for cupcakes! The idea of cupcakes and decorating your own is great. Heck, then you could even have more than one kind of frosting too for whatever makes people happiest.

The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat

Surf and turf night. Beef tips fried with an obscene amount of garlic and a fat slab of salmon. Fresh yellow wax beans from the farmer's market I picked up last night. -
ARCHIVED Cereal
Adalaide replied to Adalaide's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Without being long winded, I'll simply say that he has to be gluten free. We have no kids, although we do babysit a toddler who is gluten free while he's here. Maybe it's just that it's only been about 2 1/2 weeks and he hasn't simply accepted his fate yet. It just doesn't seem right that because cereal is gluten free it can't also be coated in sugar... -
ARCHIVED Pepto
Adalaide replied to bossley's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I was told by my doctor, who was trying to help me avoid a vicious cycle to avoid taking any diarrhea medications if at all possible. He said by all means, if I am constipated for more than a few days and high fiber foods aren't working to take something for it. But if I just start taking pepto or something similar every time I get a little D I'll find myself... -
ARCHIVED Cereal
Adalaide replied to Adalaide's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Neither of us are into the adding fruit to our cereal thing. We both want the convenience of pouring it out into a bowl, adding milk and eating it. I guess we could go shopping at the health food store, I just wanted to avoid paying $6 a box for something half the size I'd pay $3 for at the grocery store. We haven't outgrown kid cereals. He keeps wanting... -
Being nearly out of cereal we went shopping today to pick some up. I prefer a hot breakfast but that just simply isn't always a viable option. We were standing there staring and walking up and down and up and down the aisle and finally my husband was like.... this is it? We get Chex, Kix and Pebbles? This is all the cereal I can have? I was like... yes? I...

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Menu Vs Without Gluten Restaurants
Adalaide replied to Asweetgeek's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
The bakery I frequent isn't just a bakery. Sure, the primary reason I go is cupcakes, but they make killer sandwiches too. The bakery is 100% gluten free. I love going there because it doesn't involve grilling a waitress, stressing out the whole time and wondering if I'm going to be able to go to a movie after or if I'm going to have to drive like a crazy... -

Steak again... poor me, such suffering. Salad with fresh, still warm from the sun, orange tomatoes from my garden and corn on the cob. I also picked up some gelato today, I saw it on sale for BOGO and was tempted to buy out the whole store. Of course I just had to have my husband along and he was all blah blah blah you know you shouldn't have the chocolate... -
ARCHIVED One More Thing
Adalaide replied to Razzle Dazzle Brazell's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I noticed a few years ago that I was breaking out in a rash whenever I used latex gloves. Then I was got a job in a restaurant that used latex gloves and omg, it took about 2 seconds for me to be ripping that thing back off me! I thought I put my hand in a beehive. I keep the nitrile ones at home myself for when I clean, I don't think I've ever tried vinyl... -
ARCHIVED Tax Break For Celiac, Really?
Adalaide replied to 1desperateladysaved's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I will begin by saying that while I previously have been in the tax profession I have left it behind as it drives me insane and that if you intend to take this deduction you should immediately seek the help of a tax professional. I am in the US, so what I share pertains exclusively to the US. First, as stated, you need a medical diagnosis stating that... -
ARCHIVED Product Warning - Marked Gluten Free
Adalaide replied to RonSchon's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
All products that have wheat must list it. That is a given. The problem we run in to though, as we all know is that not all gluten sources must be listed, nor are they. While a lot of stocks are gluten free, I've run into plenty that aren't also. Maybe I'm just new enough, maybe I'm just OCD enough, maybe it's paranoia but I never take anything for granted... -
ARCHIVED Product Warning - Marked Gluten Free
Adalaide replied to RonSchon's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I took a gander at their website and one of the ingredients listed is simply "chicken stock" which would be enough for me to kind of freak me out and keep me away. It would be one thing if they then went on to list the individual ingredients of the stock but they don't. Good going Tyson... jerks. To be honest though, because there are no FDA regulations governing... -
ARCHIVED Blue Diamond Crackers
Adalaide replied to AGH2010's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I buy them and eat them. (Okay, well I used to before I got all the blah blah you can't have nuts crap from my doctor.) I am also super sensitive. If I even think about gluten I will be in a bathroom in half an hour wishing I were dead. That could be exaggerating just a little, but seriously, just a little. I do tend to stay away from the shared facility... -

Mmmmm.... beef stew. Sounds yummy! The weather doesn't quite sound as awesome as your dinner. We found a box of gluten free mac & cheese (kraft style) on clearance so we had that with some burgers for dinner tonight. It wasn't amazing but when it's been months and you just want a quickie dinner, it's a nice change of pace. I suppose we may occasionally... -
ARCHIVED Anyone LDS? How Do You Handle The Sacrament Bread?
Adalaide replied to terpeng's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I know this topic is kind of old, but since it's been brought up I'll pipe in. I was worried about this myself and stopped in my bishop's office. Apparently I needn't have worried as we have ourselves quite a collections of celiacs in our ward. Someone already supplies Schar crackers and we have been designated the front right area to sit. Yup, an entire... -

Adalaide replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
My bread tonight turned out as bread! Yay, I didn't royally screw it up this time. This is the recipe I used, although I only made half since I hardly have the space or pans to cook a whole recipe of it. I don't think I could eat that much either. It isn't amazing, but it's good. Once I had it slathered in gravy though? Was just like I remember, bread covered... -
I really only recognize one of those titles, and that's because I went to see the movie last night! I'm a fantasy reader myself I'm just finishing the second book in the Genesis of Shannara series. Very good if you're into Terry Brooks, ties two series together, I'm really enjoying it. Mostly though, I'm a Mercedes Lackey fan. I can not recommend my...

My dad's family just doesn't have health problems. Never mind my gluten intolerant aunt. All the people with missing gallbladders? Arthritis? Heart disease? High blood pressure? I'm sorry, maybe I wasn't clear the first time I said it. We don't have health problems in my family. For now my brother's diabetic daughter is more or less healthy and happy...

At first I was like what the heck is Poutine. Then I was like That looks so good! I actually have a local creamery where I can buy fresh curds. Which I'm not supposed to eat, but lets be honest here. French fries. Fresh curds. Gravy. Um, put me on the sign up list! (see, this is why I'm still fat) -
O.......M.......G......... My hair. It's in a pony tail today. I never, ever, work in a pony tail. Ever. I'm supposed to be all professional and crap. This morning I was like screw it. That is hilarious that your kids knew. Wouldn't it have been nice if they left chocolate bars all over the house too? Heck, I'm 34 but I'm already like bring on the...

Welcome! That's great that you noticed you started to feel better so soon. Not everyone has a noticeable improvement that quickly. Don't worry about little mistakes like that as you get started. You'll make them, we all did. Just vow not to make it again and move on. A great read is this thread which has lots of valuable information for people just getting...

You poor poor thing! I'm currently tyramine "free" which means simply consuming as little tyramine as is humanly possible. I think what triggered finding out for me was a combination of my propensity for shopping the marked down meats at the stores and the fact that I consumed approximately 3-4 pounds of spinach in a week. Along with my nuts, cheeses, nitrites...

Haha, just felt like whining I guess. I've been complaining for 6 months about how going gluten free messed me up. I was perfectly 28 day regular before then bam and now is the time it picks to be normal again? I hate my body. Mostly because it hates me. I spent last week being like today? Oh oh maybe today? Actually hoping for it. How messed up is that?...

Yeast. Oh well I didn't want rye bread anyway. (I'll tell myself this until I believe it.) My bread last night didn't turn out as bread. I wanted a half recipe, so I soaked the appropriate amount of grains. I then got home from my movie, forgot and added the full amount of everything else. Oops. I'll try again tonight with a smaller dose of idiocy!... -
So, it's been seven months now. In those seven months I've been getting my periods completely randomly and always early. Always. Sometimes by two full weeks, sometimes only by about half a week. Now... Now my best friend who I sub for at the college is away for a week on vacation. Two weeks ago I started waiting. Days came and went. Now, when I'm working...
