  1. I've had pizza that as compared to thin crust, which I absolutely love, is every bit as delicious as it's gluten filled counter parts. I've also had cupcakes from a gluten free bakery that are better than anything I ever had before in my life, hands down and without question. My husband even loves the cake pops, which are the same batter, just bite sized...
  2. I've seen lots of people ask about waffles and lots of people who can not recommend Vans waffles enough. When we finally found a toaster for under $10 (my requirement) I told my husband that we'd head to the health food store and pick up a box of Vans because it's what everybody says is good. Well he was sure that Krusteaz made gluten free waffles and that...
  3. Oh my gosh, I just discovered Brianna's dressings. They are so freaking good. The positive is that I've never enjoyed salads so much in my life. The negative is that the odds of my husband ever getting Kraft dressing near my face again without a gun to my head is pretty much zero.
  4. Now I have a questions for you Darn, since you brought up freezing waffles. I recently scored an $8 toaster for my husband because he thought he'd simply DIE without toaster waffles. Do you just pop those babies out of the freezer into the toaster? Does it work well? I'd love to do that because of how expensive waffles are (we paid $2.50 for 6) but I worry...
  5. Welcome! We're happy to have you here. Don't miss our newbie thread that will help with a lot of your questions early on as you begin going gluten free. I'm going to say something that will likely be very unpopular. Depending on how you feel now, noticeable side effects when you eat gluten, when your biopsy is scheduled and when you leave for Spain, you...
  6. To the best of my knowledge, flax is flax is flax. There is dark and golden, but I haven't noticed a difference in how they taste, then again I put it in shakes so I doubt I'd notice anyway. You do of course want to be sure that you are getting it gluten free. It is gluten free naturally but could be contaminated by the way it is processed or packaged depending...
  7. My husband and I use one of those small small deep freezers, I wouldn't recommend one for a family of four. I remember growing up we always had what I would say is a full size chest freezer, although my mom as traded it in these days for a stand up one of the same size. One of the things we do to save money is buy meat, veggies and fruits in bulk and...
  8. My husband didn't really like the sweet and sour sauce we made tonight and frankly I have to agree. I'm not particularly thrilled with the idea of going through 100 recipes, 100 reviews and an entire afternoon cooking just to be disappointed over and over. I told my husband instead I would come to "my people" since I know I can trust you guys. We're looking...
  9. omg... he is a GOD in the kitchen. Pretty easy on the eyes too. I wonder if I can find a video of him making the sauce. You know, because I'm a visual learner.
  10. The first time we were ever adventurous enough to try making our own Chinese restaurant style breaded chicken at home was after I was gluten free. Since then my husband has been dying to have sweet and sour pork. He wasn't happy with how the sauce turned out but the pork was delicious. It was also cheaper to buy the meat already cut up at the store because...
  11. That's so funny Bart. I'm the same way during the day. If it's before about 4 in the afternoon if my head gets anywhere near anything it can touch I'll be out like a light in an instant. How do people like us end up in this "day life" crap? I feel like a zombie when I have to get up before noon. At least you're doing something amazing though, music makes...
  12. At the risk of offending everyone else who has already posted recipes, I would love to have yours l2t. I mean, who here doesn't want your recipes for everything? Yeah yeah, I said I wanted easy but we all know that yours will be amazingly delicious and worth whatever effort it takes. If I want pasta and there isn't a jar of sauce to be found in the...
  13. I haven't made the switch, mostly out of pure laziness. I find it far too convenient to have at least some packaged foods. I also could simply never see myself giving up pasta. I like being able to pour a bowl of cereal on the mornings I don't want to cook. Sometimes I just want a hot dog. Mostly though I do find myself eating more or less whole foods. My...
  14. I didn't imagine double dipping. I imagined waitresses with arms full of dirty dishes putting them down then grabbing a crouton. Refill a guests drink, grab a crouton. Or grabbing one, popping it their mouth then grabbing a second. It's just ewwwwww, and exactly as gross as it sounds. (at least to me)
  15. I do not do mornings. Like, as in preferably I don't get up before noon. I spent about 2 years working first shift at a gas station full time and it took copious amounts of coffee to get me to be that wonderful perky person all my regulars loved. I can function if I need to after a while, but this while 7 am thing I've been doing? Yeah, it's even too early...
  16. That is absolutely disgusting! I can't even begin to imagine the nightmare of germs unless everyone doing this is washing their hands both before and after, which I know is not happening. If such things had happened at the restaurants I had worked at the people doing this would have promptly found themselves unemployed. Honestly less for the gross factor...
  17. Yes, do let us know how you are doing today. And if the answer isn't better, get your butt to the ER. Worry about money later. None of us want to lose you over worry about how you'll pay the bill later. They won't stand over you with the IV holding it hostage asking you for cash.
  18. After 6 rather than 2 months gluten free myself, I can say I certainly haven't changed where I would stand on the issue. Looking back I would certainly have kept my children both gluten free. If it is possible that serious illness triggered celiac at all, it was triggered at 2 months when my oldest was hospitalized with RSV and pneumonia. While not medically...
  19. Keep in mind when cleaning the old mixer to find a way to clean out the fan or whatever. Otherwise it'll just blow gluten all over the place. I just replaced my hand mixer because it wasn't worth the trouble against the cost, but for something like a Kitchen Aid or other quality stand mixer, where there is a will there is a way.
  20. Yeah, and I only put a little rat poison in everyone's cocktails. Drink up!
  21. This only comes to mind because I suffer from aquagenic priruitus, which is a condition that results in extreme itching caused by contact with water, but is it possible you are actually allergic to water. No, I'm not kidding, it is an actual condition in which physical contact with water causes... you guessed it, hives. Aquagenic urticaria is extremely rare...
  22. It really depends on what you expect from it. I love the stuff, but I don't expect perfect, flaky biscuits that will melt in my mouth either. I do love my impossible coconut pie though and keep almost talking myself into some baked chicken. I'm also quite happy with the pancakes from the back of the box although the waffles leave something to be desired.
  23. I always use that situation as an excuse to go to my favorite gluten free bakery and pick up a chicken salad arepa (which is a sandwich), a cupcake (sometimes 2) and usually a half dozen cakepops and some brownies or cookies. I'll bring the arepa and whatever dessert I want, usually a cupcake. Of course I'm not afraid to be different.
  24. I know you may balk at the idea, I did at first, but sometimes there really are no options left... Medicaid is there to help people. If it can provide services to people who have no desire to get a job and help themselves, then those of us simply down on our luck shouldn't be ashamed to ask for a little help now and then also. Get to feeling better!
  25. I'm 34, which isn't particularly old but only one person in my raid group is older than me. Everyone else (other than my husband) is in the early 20's or even teens, it makes me feel old. As for weight, I tell people I look pretty much like my avatar, which is a rather large and rotund bird-like creature.
