ARCHIVED Why Do Reactions Get Stronger And Other Intolerances Pop Up?
Adalaide replied to GFreeMO's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Other than a minor gas issue with eggs I've had my whole life I don't seem to have problems with any other foods. (What I've given up has been to save my sight and is totally not GI related.) I have also eaten yogurt since my diagnosis as if yogurt eating is it's own religion. I wonder if that could have something to do with lack of reactions to other foods... -
My oldest daughter very obviously (to me) has celiac. She also believes this to be the case. Unfortunately her father has custody of her and like me she is an awesome test taker and her blood tests came back negative so her father and stepmother are not keeping her on a gluten free diet. They hadn't found or eliminated all of the gluten successfully, but...

The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
Adalaide replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I haven't opened it yet, but I picked up a jar of Hellman's canola oil mayo at Wal-Mart a few days ago. I'm pretty excited to try it. It wasn't very expensive at all, I don't recall balking at the price compared to the other jars. I'm going to try eating food that almost needs to be chewed tonight. Shredded chicken tacos. Never made them before but... -
ARCHIVED Broth Powder
Adalaide replied to Razzle Dazzle Brazell's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I'm tyramine free which is complicated. Generally though what I'm avoiding though (that would be an issue with the broth) is aged, canned, cured, processed meats or any meats treated with meat tenderizer, soy, yeast, excessive amounts of salt or msg. There are probably more things on my list that could be in vegetable broths but it's stinking early. Mostly... -
ARCHIVED Broth Powder
Adalaide replied to Razzle Dazzle Brazell's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I'm not supposed to be having any canned broths or even bouillon or anything like that. I am also yeast free. I wonder if I'm supposed to be broth free because of the yeast since I'm okay to make my own stock. That's a great thing for me to investigate and I'm glad you asked about it since it gives me something to do tomorrow. Now I'm kind of excited as I... -
ARCHIVED Cookbooks
Adalaide replied to Razzle Dazzle Brazell's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I never thought of it, but I could and probably should make a few pages of tips and shortcuts that I could put at the beginning of my cookbook. It's great to have some handy for when you find yourself in a bind and they're one of the most handy reasons to have a cookbook. I really just hate buying a cookbook and finding out it has like 100 crappy recipes... -
ARCHIVED Cookbooks
Adalaide replied to Razzle Dazzle Brazell's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I scouted all over for a cookbook that is probably similar to what you are looking for. I gave up pretty quickly and decided that it just doesn't exist. Instead I bought a 3-ring binder and page protectors and found a common format I like for recipes. I try out recipes and when I get one I find online tweaked to just the way I like it I print it out and add... -
ARCHIVED Why Do Reactions Get Stronger And Other Intolerances Pop Up?
Adalaide replied to GFreeMO's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm sure that someone will wander along with a more scientific answer than me, but my guess is that it's a combination of things. First, our bodies our healing and our guts are all sorts of messed up. Some of it may not be new in tolerances but things we simply didn't notice we weren't tolerating before because all we were noticing were our gluten reactions... -
ARCHIVED What's For Breakfast Today?
Adalaide replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
As my husband is finally officially gluten free I have promised (at least for his first week) to send him off to work every day with a hot breakfast. The kid I babysit is sound asleep and right now I'm kicking myself thinking I could be too! I'm gonna make pancakes, bacon and eggs. Scrambled for him, poached for me. I haven't had a poached egg in a long time... -

Dinner.... ugh, I still feel sort of green and a little fuzzy around the edges. I did manage last night to upgrade from mashed potatoes to french fries with gravy. I'm still barely getting anything in me, after just a few bites I want to hurl but at least I'm eating SOMETHING. My husband is officially gluten free after struggling with some major issues... -
Since it's that special time of year when people do crazy things like go outdoors where there are wild and vicious bugs I thought I'd let everyone know I spoke with J&J this morning about Caladryl. I've seen some older posts about it that the clear is not gluten free but the pink is, and they were able to confirm that this remains true. So, if anyone...

ARCHIVED Hot Enough For You?
Adalaide replied to Darn210's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I kind of glad I haven't been able to drive. I whine like a little girl when I have to touch a hot steering wheel. I've been whining every afternoon when I go out to water my plants. Monday was okay, but yesterday and today I've practically gotten sweaty just looking out the door. I've been dripping by the time I come back in and it seriously takes like ... -
Enormous bags you say? At Costco? I've mostly ignored what is in the aisle full of baking stuff but I'm going to have to peel my eyes the next time I'm there. I'm sure my husband will have a heart attack at the price but he'll just have to get over it.
-
Meh... it's probably just you. I can't believe everyone else passed that one up. Seriously though, I burn all my muffins (gluten free and otherwise) if I don't use paper cups for them. I'm not super high here, we're at 3000 and some odd feet. Just enough to make things mildly wonky but not like you have to deal with I'm sure. Since there is such a...

Weeding? Forget that nonsense, I plant in pots! Yes, it sounds quite like Tennessee agrees with you. If you would have told me 10 years ago that today I'd be a spoiled rotten city girl with my garden in pots so I don't have to get my hands dirty weeding and spending my summer days indoors playing with my high speed internet I would have called you crazy.... -
ARCHIVED Glutened By Dentist Or New Allergy?
Adalaide replied to Adalaide's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I... kicked my husband out of bed at quarter past 8 to make him go buy pink caladryl. And to watch the baby so I could shower and wash the clear stuff off me before I DO gluten myself from my unrelenting urge to SCRATCH! I haven't needed the pain meds this morning yet, which on one hand is awesome that it doesn't hurt. On the other hand, the idea of being... -

I'd go with you. Well... I can't eat onions. Or sausage. Or beans. But I love them all. Carny food is the best! -
So, yesterday I got to spend a thrilling morning gassed out of my mind and off in la-la land (there are giraffes in la-la land) while I let a man drill holes in my head and yank out a tooth. I paid him handsomely to do this, which still seems sort of wrong to me. The bright side is he sent me home with a prescription for happy pills (lortab) and amoxicillin...

ARCHIVED Calling All Cat Owners
Adalaide replied to Lisa's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I have a specific problem with long haired cats. My husband's cat makes me break out in hives. It used to sleep in his bed, that was an automatic no go for me when we got married. (It had nothing to do with my hives or allergies either!) His is the only cat I've ever had contact with that has caused me to have a rash or hives since I was a teenager. -

While I don't think that blueberry fluff stuff was meant to replace something at least semi-nutritious like rice cereal, it has.... and omg. I mashed the blueberries after they were cooked with a potato masher and I also added a dash of cinnamon because who doesn't love cinnamon on blueberries? So yummy, I can totally live on this for a few days! -

Adalaide replied to Cheryl-C's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't personally think they're bad, they just aren't that great. On a night if I didn't really feel like cooking and wanted something relatively easy I wouldn't be opposed to throwing one of these in a pot and having it. Don't feel too bad about having picked up a bunch on clearance until you've tried them. (As a disclaimer I have a very serious salt problem... -
ARCHIVED What Are You Growing This Year?
Adalaide replied to alex11602's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I picked my first cucumber today! I was out watering and got at just the right angle and saw it hiding under the leaves. I had seen a few babies growing but didn't even notice this one. It's a nice fatty that sprung up without me even noticing. I'm going to have to get some refrigerator pickles going for the hubby to deal with the slow start until we have... -

Just so you know, we'll be walking around the store or in the kitchen or something and I'll be like "so Irish was like....." or "I should buy X because Irish said" and hubby is like and I'm like what? You're practically a family member here with all of your great ideas! I am SO buying blueberries. I love you so much right now. Off I go! -

Yay for scurvy! Seriously though, what kind of doctor diagnosis someone with scurvy in today's world without thinking there is some kind of very serious underlying disease. I'm off to have a root canal and a tooth pulled, so I'm back to a liquid and soft food diet for a few days. I'm thinking rice cereal for supper with maybe some sort of blueberry something...
