  1. I'm not eating cheese at the moment, but until about 2 weeks ago I ate Kroger cheese pretty much by the pound. I bought both shredded and block, never found one that was not okay. Kroger is awesome at labeling. I once found canned beans that said something about processed in a facility that blah blah blah.... I trust them. But I have actually eaten exactly...
  2. Testing my tyramine limits a little at a time. So tonight, chili! Perfect snowy weather dinner. Crossing my fingers for beans.
  3. I've never gotten sick from calcium chews. (Have never checked if they are gluten free.) Vitamins make me horridly ill and I absolutely won't take them. I couldn't even take them when I was pregnant because of how sick I got. Calcium though has just never caused issues, at least for me. Of course, we're all unique animals so who knows.
  4. That is rough!!! I'm sorry, I thought I was being helpful. I really have no other suggestions since like everything in existence is made of seaweed or sea salt. I gave up for myself. You can always make your own rice milk, which isn't fortified but is safe. Then you can get yummy chewable calcium.
  5. Oh I'll pretty much react to gluten from across the room. Maybe that is a slight exaggeration. Maybe if I learn to make sour cream I'll head out and hunt down the scoops. Why can't everything only have three ingredients? Not that I eat Cheetos any more, but I would eat Natural Cheetos because they are tested gluten free. I wouldn't eat the regular ones because...
  6. Lays have two versions of of products that are "safe" for us. The first are products that contain no gluten ingredients. The second are gluten free and every batch is tested. You can find more information about this on their website. I believe (but I'm not looking right now and this is from memory) that the ones that specifically say gluten free are the tested...
  7. There are plenty of foods that offer a lot of calcium other than milk. If you aren't drinking dairy, I would look into food sources rather than counting on finding a safe rice alternative that is calcium fortified. Finding a dairy substitute that doesn't suck was enough to make me want to beat my head off a wall. Then I decided that I was just going to deal...
  8. These things happen. After 10 months I ate soup that got me because I am apparently incompetent at reading labels. Everyone reacts differently. I take every time as a lesson learned, muddle through because that is all I can do with a gluten head and move forward. Accidents happen to all of us, the best we can do is learn from our mistakes, smile through it...
  9. A betadine wash is generally used to clean the cows. It doesn't hurt anything to just leave it on them, and so that is what happens. The diary I use washes the cows twice to get it off of them. I was shocked that this was something I didn't know before having grown up in a close knit farming community in PA. Of course, many there simply have very small farms...
  10. I want to say this not to scare you, but to make you aware. If the pain comes back severely, get to an ER! My celiac was diagnosed when my gallbladder was removed (SURPRISE!) so I can't say if gluten would have triggered an attack, although I can say it does trigger liver pain still. For me it was always fat. I had stones and one fully blocked a duct. The...
  11. I'm drinking raw milk because it isn't contaminated with iodine. Other than that I am dairy free. I already know how to make my own butter thanks to being a farm girl but I'm cheese free until I learn to make some. Lucky me the store I buy my milk at is having a cheese making class tonight. I'm such a cheese addict. I've always suspected I have a dairy issue...
  12. Leftovers. Because pot roast and gravy never gets old. I also need something quick and easy, tonight is my cheese making class, so excited!
  13. I had pot roast tonight too. I had a roast (not pot roast though ) two nights ago. If it is a condition I have it pretty bad. I hope there is no cure and I am okay with it worsening over time. I had a baked potato and carrots with mine. Slathered that tater with fresh butter from raw milk. Slathered everything else in copious amounts of gravy. Following...
  14. Th issue with milk isn't any additive. Industry standard is to use a betadine wash on the cows prior to milking to sterilize them, and this is where our problem stems from. You would need to speak to the supplying dairies and ask about the milking practices. I had to call over two dozen dairies before I found safe milk. While the dairy I get milk from does...
  15. After developing the rash I went iodine free. This meant eliminating dairy for a few days until I could find a source of milk that isn't contaminated through the milking process. (I now consume copious amounts of raw milk.) I also started taking prednisone at the same time. Within days I was feeling much better. I am still itchy, and I still have noticeable...
  16. Too tired to cook, barely functioning since coming off my steroids. Just threw a roast in the oven with some taters and baby carrots. I figure for 10 minutes worth of effort I'll have dinner, lunch and dinner again if I can find the effort to use the microwave and wash some dishes. Everything is accompanied with some ginger ale and bitters to be able to keep...
  17. First, I'm here because I do have CELIAC. FOR REAL. And I am one of the lucky (or unlucky, depending on your point of view) super sensitive people. You have no scientific evidence for where you are coming from. You just seem to be having issues with chicken and coming up with some convoluted ideas with why. I have participated in all stages of the chicken...
  18. I pretty much get sick if I am at a party and make eye contact with someone who was thinking about cookies that contain gluten. I am also the single most paranoid person I know. Having grown up on a farm I can say with 110% confidence that you are so far beyond paranoid and have gone so far beyond the realm of science that I don't even know where to start...
  19. The repurcussions of a "simple" CC last well over a month for me. There is no amount of money in the world that would get me to eat gluten on purpose. You'll come around and see that also. Even if you don't get horribly ill like many of us do, as already stated you increase your chances of so many complications that really, it isn't worth it. How many AI...
  20. this made me giggle
  21. I don't use teabags, I just buy dried nettle. Unless it isn't available as an herb I don't commonly buy tea bags, although I do keep some around the house of my favorite bedtime tea out of sheer laziness. Anyway, in both cases, with bags and herbs I always use them twice. I just leave it in a little longer the second time around. Omg, if I ever threw out...
  22. Milk is complicated for me right now because of iodine. I found an organic farm that sells whole raw milk I can safely have. The issue is I'm jumping from 2% to full fat milk so it's a calorie increase so I'm worried about my new jeans staying a good fit! I'll figure it out. Supper was super yummy. MMMMM!!!!!! Bacon!! I can't wait to start having bacon...
  23. Rudi's tortillas are available. I have to say that whlie they are delicious and I have enjoyed them, they are not comparable to what I am used to in a flour tortilla. They will harden and break. I simply use corn tortillas for soft tortillas, also Mission brand. They are soft, and delicious. If I want something different and more unhealthy I'll fry them in...
  24. Wednesday when I was trolling around I noticed no one had posted for THREE WHOLE DAYS!!!. I was like, this would never have been allowed to happen if love2travel was home. We're all happy to have you back! Tonight I used up all my energy making butter, so just leftover pork and apple cole slaw. Well, I suppose that's half a lie about how I used up all...
