ARCHIVED I Need Some Advice
Jnkmnky replied to Slamey24's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Keep in mind that an official dx causes issues with future health insurances, your son will be ineligible for Military service as well....OH, and he can't receive Holy Orders *be a Catholic Priest*, either. -

ARCHIVED Getting celiac disease On National Radio
Jnkmnky replied to RiceGuy's topic in Publications & Publicity
Well, everyone can believe what they want. I don't care if she really believes there's aliens among us. You can't dictate what people will believe.... She did tell me that she heard about Celiac on her radio last summer. I don't know if she was plugged in to her alien station at the time, but she called me to let me know celiac had hit the "mainstream... -
ARCHIVED Getting celiac disease On National Radio
Jnkmnky replied to RiceGuy's topic in Publications & Publicity
Haha! I agree. There's a woman in my town who's always plugged into this station with a little radio she carries around 24/7. She's stopped me to tell me all about the aliens among us. Other than that, she's pretty normal. But totally believes this hooey. -

The incident with the woman who commented on your son's appearance should not bother you. If you look at these moments as opportunities to spread the word about celiac disease, you will be much happier. There are very few comfortable ways to begin talking about celiac disease and your child's experience, your experience with the dx and all of the celiac... -
ARCHIVED It's Official... We Can Eat Oats!
Jnkmnky replied to jkmunchkin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've decided to wait till my son is a lot older so he can really describe to me how his body reacts. I'd hate to mistake a stomach bug for a neg reaction, or to not quite get a clear understanding from him if he reacts badly. -
ARCHIVED Lotions
Jnkmnky replied to ILOVEOMC's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We use St. Ive's collagen elastin. It's the red white and blue bottle. Love the stuff. It has fragrance, but some of the other St. Ive's may not. I love their stuff. Cheap but good. Also love Clay Aiken's Christmas song, "Mary did you know". I just downloaded it onto my iPod. -
ARCHIVED About To Have A Panic Attack
Jnkmnky replied to terriH's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Maltodextrin is ok in the U.S. Modified Food Starch needs to be verified as a gluten free source if the product is not from a company that *declares* gluten. Kraft foods will NOT just write "modified food starch" in the ingredient list and leave it at that IF the source is gluten. Kraft will put, in parenthesis, the source of the starch IF it is gluten... -
ARCHIVED I Need Some Advice
Jnkmnky replied to Slamey24's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If you were accidently giving him stuff with gluten, he wasn't experienceing the benefits of a gluten free diet. That goes for even little crumbs of gluten. Sorry. A Celiac will not tolerate ANY gluten. My son also experienced joint pain and muscle pain. It was relieved completely on the gluten free diet within a month. Cognitive delays are very... -
ARCHIVED Corn Tortillas
Jnkmnky replied to grantschoep's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
When "burrito" was mentioned, I believed the original poster was talking about 'wraps'. My corn tortilla wraps don't crunch even when I don't heat them with a pat of butter on each side. Without the butter, the corn wraps are crumbly and tear easily when stuffed with ingredients. I find that the butter softens the burrito to a nice consistency. The wrap... -
The current suggestion is that patients dxd with MS should be screened for Celiac. There is an awareness that the two are linked...as are all AI Diseases, imo.

ARCHIVED Tinkyada

We used their shells for "stuffed shells" ... They were so good we made them two nights in a row. My celiac kid has never had them. It was great. -
ARCHIVED Corn Tortillas
Jnkmnky replied to grantschoep's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've found bigger ones in regular shopping stores. I think Mission sells larger ones. When you use them, heat them with a pat of butter on each side. THey soften up to a flour burrito consistency. Much better. -

I don't even have celiac disease and I'm gluten free and I am fine. Not hungry, not deprived. You can manage. You need to find your foods and replacements. Have you found bread that you like yet? ARCHIVED Is There A Safe Rice Cerial Like Rice Krispies?
Jnkmnky replied to nobeer4me's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Envirokidz are in lots of regular stores now, but you can find them for sure, in WholeFoods and the like. They have a flavor called, "koala Crunch" that is chocolate rice krispies. There are lots of good, cold, gluten free cereals in the health food stores. In a regular store, Post Fruity and Cocoa Pebbles are gluten free... shocker, I know! Enjoy. -

Slamey- Here's a link to Chebe. It's really good to have around. I use it a lot. I get the Buitoni pesto sauce, add it to the chebe along with Mozz cheese, garlic salt and diced, boild chicken. I roll it into sticks and bake. My kdis dip it in spaghetti sauce. You can throw ANYTHING into chebe. Look at HotPockets and add whatever they're adding. ... -

Jnkmnky replied to Slamey24's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Slamey- I'm pretty sure all pbs are gluten free. You don't have to buy special ones. Just saying, cuz you're going to be paying a-plenty for the gluten free foods you NEED. Whenever you can find gluten free foods in a REGULAR store... it's easier on the pocketbook! And, mayo and peanut butter.... I just ~~~shuddered~~~ Chebe is great, too. Make... -
ARCHIVED My Husband Is The Problem Help
Jnkmnky replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I wonder if that would constitute child endangerment. I know for a fact, my husband would be in danger if he tried to do that to our son. Auto immune diseases "piggy-back" one another. He's exposing her to a myriad of other, more painful and debiliating and permanent auto immune diseases with his cavalier attitude. Lovely father. You could divorce him... -
I think it can be. Keeping your body inflamed has to let other stuff slip through the gut wall. Your body finds some protein combo that slipped through and identifies it as an invader and triggers another auto immune response that can't be shut down.

ARCHIVED I Need Some Advice
Jnkmnky replied to Slamey24's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I like being useful, so no worries! Modified food starch must be verified if not confirmed a gluten free source. Some companies such as Kraft, will list the source ONLY if the source is gluteny. So, if you pick up a Kraft salad dressing for instance, and it looks good, except that you see the words "modifed food starch".... if that's all it says, it's... -

ARCHIVED Weight Loss Supplement
Jnkmnky replied to Canadian Karen's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You can't just cut back on calories. I hope you're lifting some weights. Get little 3-5 lb handweights and little strap on ankle weights. Nothing expensive, nothing heavy... you're not training to be a body builder! But you have to work your muscles in order to lose the weight. Your body will burn extra calories "repairing" the muscles while you sleep... -

ARCHIVED What Do You Think?
Jnkmnky replied to Heartmum2Jamie's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I don't understand this. Are you in the U.S.? Your doctor works for you. They don't deny you testing. They can talk you out of insisting on one... but that's your decision. You get the tests you want if you're in the U.S. You may have to pay the $300 for it, but no doctor can deny you a test..weird or not. If the child has celiac disease, his villi...
