  1. Sorry, you are going through this. Your body is doing a lot of work to recovery now. Take breaks when you can. It seems like only someone else with gluten intolerance can really understand what one is going through. It sounds like you have a positive response to the gluten free diet. That is probably the best indication of gluten problems. There...
  2. I wonder if digestive enzymes would help you break down your food. I get joint pain after having tomatoes and potatoes, but I don't think mine is nearly immediate. Many people with celiac do not absorb fat well. There may be other reasons for mal-absorption. According to my Functional medicine nurse the villi in the small intestine are supposed...
  3. I owe a lot to celiac, If it weren't for celiac I would eat like an American: chips, soda pop, and candy until gone, but undiagnosed celiac motivated me to cut out sweets. I learned to eat vegetables, I grew more and more motivated to learn about and use foods to nourish. When I got married I knew how to cook hotdogs, chocolate cake, chocolate...
  4. I am so glad to hear you got diagnosed! It is hard to be happy you had the rash, but having it may have saved you, or hastened you on your way! Happy gluten Free eating and recovery to you! Glad, so glad to hear the family is on board. D
  5. Sorry, you and your mother are going through this. I would like to say that one needs to read the entire label on a package. I mean that the sauce of the Lipton rice for example, might have had gluten. I tried to look it up on line and could not find the ingredients. I suggest you read a thread Irishheart wrote and hope someone will provide it below....
  6. I would like to agree that going gluten free is the very best thing to help your liver recover. I have Functional Medicine help for recovery and they said maybe in 8 months I could do a cleanse. They felt that my natural organic diet with no junk was cleansing enough for now. I am already 18 months into a gluten free program. I had at least 30 years...
  7. I am super-sensitive and am not sure if everyone needs to do this, but it seemed to help me. Make sure to wash well or replace potholders. I also needed my family to dispose of some cook books which had been doused with years of flour incidents. We copied the recipes that we could not do without and collected new recipes. I don't think potholders...
  8. Okay, ready for this recipe? 1. Peel Mango well. (The peel has the same substance as poison ivy) Painful experience remembered here. 2. Cut mango in pieces if you need to 3. Place mango in blender and process. 4. Enjoy mango sauce!
  9. I hope you have her back to her regular diet or will soon. I am glad you found the blockage in time. The doctors should find out if the intestine has telescoped on itself. That happened to my nephew. Intussusception is the name of that problem. I wonder if there may be a gluten link? Please keep us updated as I see this thread began in August and...
  10. The gluten free diet isn't really made to change a person's weight, but instead to get them healthy. A person which has celiac disease cannot absorb nutrients as they should while eating gluten. If they can't get enough nutrients they might waste away. If their body is unable to break down fat, their body may just store it. By removing gluten, the body...
  11. I think the types of things you are planning are great. Learning about the diet would be first on my list. Don't forget to read every label on packaged goods. I had untreated celiac disease for 30+ years. I love children; I had five children in about 12 years, but then I had 16 years of infertility. I had severe trouble with nausea and vomiting in...
  12. Hi RJ, Before going gluten free you may want to consider being tested for celiac. A positive test may help to keep you motivated. Seeing your Dad's improvement is surely inspiring. Congratulations, to him and I surely hope he will continue to improve. You may be surprised how your motivation level will rise if and when you accidentally intake gluten...
  13. I think I get a swollen tongue when I eat something I am intolerant of or if I get some gluten. D
  14. We recently upped my D3 from 3000, to 5000 to bump it above borderline good. I get plenty of sun too.
  15. I nearly mentioned public school internet as an option for curriculum. I have friends doing that. Hopefully, you still get to have your children with you and you with them! I didn't know people still asked that one about social skills. I always say that I am a product of public school and don't do well in social situations. Just give me a keyboard...
  16. Yeah, I am enjoying having my children at home. I don't have to be just a housekeeper. It is a constant challenge staying ahead of my children. One can cater to their own interests. When they get excited about their school work, we keep learning. One daughter has been begging me the last 3 weeks to start school. Finally, we are started.
  17. Do you qualify? That would be great! I keep forgetting that the children eventually graduate even though I have several graduates by now!
  18. Yes, I do absorb capsules, anyway. I have been striving to get rid of capsules for supplements. My nutrient absorption was poor last November, yet my nutrient levels rose to good levels by June. For each test, November and June, I took the same vitamin capsuled supplements. Something was getting in. My supplements were professional products and were made...
  19. On the one hand, I am thinking if you are feeling really well, perhaps just keep doing what you are doing. On the other hand, it is nice to check and be sure. I plan to always take a multi-vitamin and vitamin B Complex and iron, but I will also have someone watch my nutrient levels. However, I felt terrible and was really depleted in the beginning...
  20. I ask at my local coop to have them get small portions from the original bag. I figure it is a bit better then getting from the public bin. They usually help with this since they understand. I have been known to buy certain items from gravity bins, but I always wash them for more security. I buy in bulk from Azure Standard (I am in a buyer's club) They...
  21. My breakfast is: Poached eggs olive oil, coconut oil, or butter muffin made with nut flour and fruit. Lunch: Leftovers from the supper the day before. Supper: Meat usually chicken, beef, pork, or fish. Rarely alpaca, bison, or elk. I even had duck once. Vegetable beets, swiss chard, spinach, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, collard greens,...
  22. Make sure all ingredients are completely gluten free. If you have gluten foods in your kitchen you would have a harder task to do this. Have your nutrient levels been checked? I had troubles with mal-absorption which caused fatigue. Do you take Vitamin B? It is difficult to get enough without eating meat. Fatigue can be a result of low vitamin B....
  23. I now have an oven in my car. We do not allow gluten in the car anymore. I take an electric skillet to hotels and cook (where hopefully nobody else does) after carefully wiping off the table surfaces. . I have developed a way to keep my food hot for (so far) up to 4 1/2 hours. My sweet potato was done to soft perfection after Tuesday's soccer game....
