ARCHIVED Fellow Homeschoolers Sign In!
1desperateladysaved replied to 1desperateladysaved's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I always found that teachers were always the most supportive of our homeschooling. They were great when our extended family didn't quite see it our way. My mother-in-law learned to enjoy it when she came to help daily for a few months years ago. I am glad we stuck with it. I enjoyed being the teacher and mother and watching my children closely as they... -
ARCHIVED Vitamins And Supplements
1desperateladysaved replied to gilligan's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I use my unused supplements as compost in the pile. I happen to really like Nature's Way vitamins. As a brand, I think they are carefully made and independently tested. I currently take their B-100. I am not familiar with their multi-vitamin. I personally would not take anything with wheat grass, but I might actually have an allergy. D -
ARCHIVED Waiting For Tests To Come Back
1desperateladysaved replied to Dria's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You had celiac antibody tests, I believe you said in another post. That is good you don't have RA. I believe that celiac is more manageable and perhaps you have already seen that the diet makes a difference! Wishing you all the best as you recover, D -
ARCHIVED Constipation, Poor Tooth Enamel, Anemia

Please let us know how your situation plays out. I have my ballet cast for celiac. Yes, I remember the dentist marveling over the colors in my teeth before. He said he hadn't ever seen so many colors in teeth. D -
ARCHIVED New Celiac
1desperateladysaved replied to flutteringby's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hi Alannah, I had mono when I was 19 and noticed my abdomen bloating after that. I had symptoms before that, but afterward it really was undeniable. Still I just thought I gained some weight which would not be unusual at about that age. I had 2 DQ2 and 2 DQ8 genes and yet had no relatives diagnosed with celiac! I nearly died about 8 years ago... -
ARCHIVED Probiotics
1desperateladysaved replied to vallene45's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You want an option with viable bacteria. I would pick the product for quality rather than being cheap. I believe it is also a good idea to vary the kind one uses. My product has L-acidophilus, L Savarious, and L planetarium in it. My Functional Medicine nurse read the label and said its contents was good. The brand of mine is Restore and I got it from... -
ARCHIVED How Will I Know?
1desperateladysaved replied to pocahontas30's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
First be diligent, as I know you will, to check all labels. I found months after going gluten free that I had missed reading some bottles that I believed to be one ingredient. Many had more than one ingredient. Since your whole household went gluten free, you will not have to worry about cross contamination. That is great for them! One of the ways... -
ARCHIVED Relatively New And Learning To Deal. . . Low Iron?
1desperateladysaved replied to pocahontas30's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Pro-biotics contain good bacteria which do help break down nutrients I have seen gummy's with it in the health food store. I am not sure if the gummys are effective or not. My probiotics say they are best taken on an empty stomach. You may also try a probiotic powder. I combine mine with water and drink it. My brand is Restore Probiotic and it contains... -
ARCHIVED Apparently You Guys Were Right, It's All In My Head!
1desperateladysaved replied to Renegade's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I feel you need to pick at least 1 protein food and preferably more. If you use meats you have not generally eaten before you shouldn't have built up intolerances to them. I would add well cooked vegetables. If you haven't tried Fennel bulb, there is one you don't have antibodies too. If mango is new it would be a nice addition. Don't forget some good... -

ARCHIVED Small Scratch...so Much Blood!
1desperateladysaved replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Keep the spots on the carpet wet by placing a thick plastic on top with a weight to hold it there. If you can pretreat the spots, I would do it. Wow! All in a day's work. D -
ARCHIVED I Don't Know Where To Go From Here.
1desperateladysaved replied to student314's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Those symptoms that you have, I would have trouble blowing off! I have done some of them and it wasn't fun. It is possible that a parasite may be causing you trouble, so you may want to get the results of that testing and see what happens. If that is negative, or the treatment doesn't solve the problem, I would look for a doctor that is willing to help... -

ARCHIVED Grain Free Diet?
1desperateladysaved replied to w8in4dave's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I am grain free. Lately I am using nut flours which help give me a full feeling. I make muffins, pancakes, or wraps with them. I make wild rice in place of rice. I guess it isn't a grain. I had withdrawal symptoms when I stopped eating rice, and buckwheat (which isn't a grain, but is used like one). Recently I tried to take a supplement which contained... -
I have some ideas of things that helped me: Digestive enzymes Probiotics Avoid foods that you have intolerance too. Get enough water. I think the current bloating just has to work through. Are you gluten free and did you get gluten by accident? You might try a warm bath. I have noticed my bloating is worse after bathing, but in the morning it...

ARCHIVED Emergency Id Tag
1desperateladysaved replied to SteffiW's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I thought about this. I carry a bracelet in my purse. Others on the forum claimed that in an emergency they wouldn't be feeding you, so they wouldn't need to know. Do we have any emergency workers out there which can verify that no IV's, no bandages, no on the scene medications would contain gluten? Did the doctor give any further clarification on why... -
ARCHIVED How Likely Do You Think It Is That I Have Celiac?
1desperateladysaved replied to appletree729's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have no objectivity, I think everyone has celiac! I think if you feel better gluten free than it is really likely you have an intolerance of some kind. I hope you and your children will soon be able to ease your symptoms. I felt fatigue, lack of energy, and brain fog as my main symptoms. I also had the "pregnancy like bloat." I am better. I hope... -

ARCHIVED Constipation, Poor Tooth Enamel, Anemia
1desperateladysaved replied to gemlechner's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I've seen a couple of articles recently on tooth enamel defects, if that is the problem, you may be dealing with celiac. I lost the enamel off of my teeth while I was young. It was a big mystery to everyone, the dentist and my parents. Now, they are telling dentists to have the patient get checked for celiac. I think it is a great idea to stick to... -

ARCHIVED Celiac Specialist In Jacksonville, Fl (Not At Mayo)
1desperateladysaved replied to Lisa M.'s topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would recommend a Functional Medicine doctor. I am guessing it may have been my blog as I haven't seen others blogging about their doctors recently. I looked up functional medicine Florida and noticed names, but I am in MN so I am not familiar with any of them. A functional medicine doctor tries to look at the body as a whole, tries to find the root... -
ARCHIVED Getting Desperate
1desperateladysaved replied to Eclara's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sorry for you, Hang in there. There is help for you. I know it is a hard time to search it out, but ya have to keep trying. Could you cook some plain meat instead of lunch meat? Just put a chicken or beef in a crock pot with some water and sprinkle with salt. Get Well.*** D
