ARCHIVED My Gi Doctor Said My Ulcerative Colitis Is Not At All Related To Gluten
happygirl replied to bumblebby's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I second what Fiddle Faddle said I don't know if you actually have Celiac Disease or not, but dietary modifications can play an important role in the management of IBDs. Open Original Shared Link "Patients with ulcerative colitis should eliminate any foods or beverages from their diet that seem to make symptoms worse." (Obviously, you know this... -
ARCHIVED Gene Test Results?
happygirl replied to suz101's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Suz, I don't think there is any research to support if DQ8 or DQ2 is better or worse, per se, to have. Nor is there any research that I know of that has to do with the incidence of your chances of having it with one or the other. The vast majority of Celiacs are DQ2 (about 90%). About 8+% are DQ8 (I am a DQ8), and the remaining 1-2% don't have either... -
ARCHIVED Do You Really Need To Send Your Blood Work Out To Other Labs?
happygirl replied to janelyb's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I would think to start, the best way is definitely to go through your doctor and the lab company they use. I don't know anything about the lab you posted (so this is not necessarily directed against them), but sometimes their practices and methods are not fully in line with the rest of the medical community. If you are looking for a diagnosis - to start... -
ARCHIVED Gene Information Wanted! Please!
happygirl replied to Peta's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Brian, Thanks for sharing the information. So you had positive bloodwork (including tTG?), a positive biopsy will villous atrophy, but you don't have either DQ2 or DQ8? You ARE special, then!!!!!!! I think at some point, there was another non-gene person on the board. I dont think they are around that often. Malabsorption is not solely caused... -

ARCHIVED Need Clarification
happygirl replied to sore joints's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Right now, I don't think that we know enough about gluten yet. I think for *some* people, it could be the case (as in the case of those who have the genes). For others, I do think it can be entirely separate. The other thing to think about is that sometimes people who don't think that they have Celiac, but think they are gluten sensitive, are actually... -
ARCHIVED Nearly Convinced My Son Hasn't Got Celiac!
happygirl replied to Peta's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
the other point to mention is that he could be non-Celiac gluten sensitive, meaning there isn't the villi damage that occurs in Celiac. However, the symptoms can be the same. The treatment is the same: gluten free diet. Even though he has the Celiac genes doesn't mean its Celiac...so it could be a non-Celiac issue with gluten. -
ARCHIVED Elizabeth Haselbeck Said She Has Celiac!
happygirl replied to TBOX's topic in Publications & Publicity
Geoff It was on within the first 10? 15? minutes or so. They usually sit around a table and "talk" to start the show, and it was while they were still in that segment, rather than when they have guests, etc. -

ARCHIVED Elizabeth Haselbeck Said She Has Celiac!
happygirl replied to TBOX's topic in Publications & Publicity
Wow---I'm watching this right now and its awesome! She is so cute, so fun! She is drinking gluten free beer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They talked about-and drank-Redbridge and both of them said it was really good (Rosie and Elisabeth are the ones who drank it). She mentioned that she was sick for about four years, and felt much better when she was on Survivor... -

ARCHIVED I Want To Send Dr. Fine Some Flowers
happygirl replied to AliceW's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
ALICE :) Wow, you don't know how happy your post makes me. I am SO happy to hear that your symptoms are finally on their way out of the door. I know you have had such a struggle with this: trouble with symptoms, figuring out what is wrong, doctors/testing, etc. etc. This is what this board is here for: to give people the information that they... -
ARCHIVED Hello From A Newbie!
happygirl replied to playtowin123's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
playtowin: I never thought I'd join a forum either! I read for months before I finally joined---I was too scared! This was my first one and I must admit, this is one of the best out there! We are happy you have found us. Hope to see you on here often! Laura -
The other analogy that is often used on this board is that gluten is like poison to a Celiac. Would you (or your husband) be comfortable with two big slabs of rat poison, that crumbles, on your food? Would he be comfortable picking it off, and 100% confident that not one little crumb remains? Is he willing to take that risk? There is medical evidence...

ARCHIVED I Have Just Been Diagnosed With Celiac
happygirl replied to metsfan11's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
metsfan: welcome to our celiac corner of the world. Amazingly, that corner is spreading! You said that you felt like no one else had this. I think we all felt like that too! The latest research is that 1 in 133 Americans have Celiac Disease....and about 97% of those who have it, DON'T KNOW IT! The National Institute of Health has actually... -
ARCHIVED Nearly Convinced My Son Hasn't Got Celiac!
happygirl replied to Peta's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hey Peta, I have a friend who had negative bloodwork and a very, very, very definitive biopsy (highly positive for Celiac). It is generally rare....but not unheard of. Even if the biopsy is negative, do you think its worth trying the diet? Best of luck, Laura -
cassidy: i'm sure patti will jump in soon. she brought all her own food (she has multiple food intolerances). I am extremely sensitive like you and get sick at restaurants often. My family already knows that if anything happens to me, I am NOT to be fed by hospital staff, under any circumstances, even if they claim it is gluten free. Personally...

ARCHIVED Do You Really Need To Send Your Blood Work Out To Other Labs?
happygirl replied to janelyb's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'm not sure what specialty labs you are referring to for bloodwork. If you have the full blood panel run (ordered by your doctor, who will send it to whatever lab company they use....LabCorp, Quest, etc), that includes the tTG test (doctors don't often run this), then that is the effective bloodwork for Celiac. Other people use other means if they don... -
ARCHIVED Gene Information Wanted! Please!
happygirl replied to Peta's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Brian, Just a note (and I have been tested through the full panel by enterolab): your signature says enterolab for Celiac. Dr. Fine specifically notes that his tests measure gluten senstivity, and not Celiac per se. did you have differet testing done by him, or are you inferring his results relate to Celiac? -

ARCHIVED What's That Lab That Does Fecal Testing?
happygirl replied to vampella's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You will find three camps of people on here: those who love it, because it has given them a diagnosis, and for many, has improved their life dramatically those in the middle, who aren't quite sure what to think, and acknowledge that it might be correct, but seem skeptical for various reasons (his studies and methods are not published) those who think... -

ARCHIVED Just About Out Of My Noodle.. Help?
happygirl replied to MissBlueJ05's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I made a big batch of chili this weekend that was naturally gluten free: Brown and drain fat off of two lbs of ground beef. Chop up and add one onion. Drain/rinse one can of light red kidney beans and one can of dark red kidney beans. Add one can (small) of tomato sauce. Add 2 cans of chopped tomatoes. Add seasonings to your taste (we add pepper,...
