  3. Happy Birthday, Chelse, happy to have you back on.
  4. From my experience, McCormick is a great company about listing very clearly (in their seasoning mixes, like for tacos, enchiladas, etc) gluten ingredients. When I have had questions, they were very helpful on the phone. I used them a lot before being diagnosed, and use them all the time now.
  5. GOOD LUCK MOLLY! We know you will do well...and it will be so worth it in the end. Make sure to keep up on your sleep. And post whenyou are through. We'll be rootin' for ya!
  6. Hey Gayle, Welcome to the board! We are happy you have joined us. This is a great resource. Feel free to read, do searches, and ask questions. I am not from CA, but here is a list of groups that www.celiac.com, the parent site to this forum, has listed. As for weekly meetings: I have had experience with groups in Virginia Beach, Richmond, northern...
  7. During busy times, there are usually about 150-180 people online at one time, both members and "lurkers." This amount varies throughout the day, and include people who check it once, and people who check it more than once. I'm sure Scott could give us an average of the number of members on in a given day, plus add the large amount of lurkers (I would...
  8. This is not the full answer, but the relevant part, from Dr. Peter Green's website (Columbia University) Q: How is celiac disease diagnosed? The gold standard for diagnosis is the small intestinal biopsy, done during a procedure called endoscopy. The diagnosis is based on finding a series of abnormalities in an intestinal biopsy (increased inflammation...
  9. In order to have as accurate of a biopsy as possible (and to make it worth your time or money), you are supposed to be ingesting gluten. Ensure that your physician takes multiple biopsies from multiple places. If you choose not to eat gluten, the results will be: positive biopsy. Confirms what you already knew. negative biopsy. this could (and probably...
  10. If you are a Celiac, I recommend the book in my signature. It might help you get on track. Best of luck.
  11. Hey Tanya, Here are some potential links that *might* help a little bit: Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link I don't know if I 'had/have' DH. I had an itchy sore on my leg that wouldn't heal that I dismissed (as it was the...
  12. If you have yet to start the diet, my advice is this: Contact the local Celiac group in your area (you can find them on celiac.com) and ask for a reputable doctor that deals with Celiac. Ask to have the full Celiac bloodwork done (including the tTG test) and ask to have the area around your blisters biopsied.
  13. Nantzie, Well said. Thanks for this post. I think this is a good reminder for everyone to help out. And for the lurkers, please register and join in! Laura
  14. Geoff, That is a great story! Thanks for sharing. Having a supportive family makes such a difference, in my opinion. kbabe: one of the most popular gluten free soy sauces is made by San-J. They have a regular and no sodium version for us Celiacs . They also make "regular" ones so be careful to grab the right one. They all have different colored labels...
  15. Thanks for letting us know, Deb.
  16. I finally found Redbridge today at the local Whole Foods....we will be trying it :)
  17. This is incorrect information. Modified food starch is safe unless it says wheat. This is mandated by the food allergen labeling law of 2006. By now, *most* labels will be up to date. In general, Modified Food Starch is often corn. aphares86, Welcome to the board! We are happy you have found us. This is a great resource. Feel free to ask questions...
  18. And, up until a few years ago, in VA, it was called "Lee Jackson King" Day. Open Original Shared Link
  19. If you post the ingredients of something, we can help you interpret them to see if they are safe or not. If there is only one ingredient (i.e., pure sweet potatoes), then yes, they are gluten free. Good luck!!
  20. Wow! That is so awesome! I bet that was neat to hear them all speak. I think it helps to see these people face to face that are working on Celiac awareness. Thanks for sharing! I heard Dr. Fasano's research partner Dr. Paterson speak last year, and this spring I'll see Dr. Fasano's dietician from the Celiac Center in Maryland speak....I just love hearing...
  21. I think that it would be worth it to have the full Celiac panel run, which includes the tTG test, which is more sensitive. After that, regardless of the results, it might be very well worth it to try the gluten free diet! There are many on this board who do not have an official diagnosis, but refer to themselves as "gluten intolerant"---they know they do...
  22. doubletriple, I'm sorry to hear that you have a clueless doc. Unfortunately, when it comes to Celiac, there are many doctors out there like yours. It is really frustrating, especially when you are looking for answers. The good thing about Celiac/gluten intolerance is that you don't "have" to have any diagnosis. You don't have to a have a prescription...
  23. I've read this thread before, and it still makes me laugh. JayT-I love your Pillsbury dough boy!
  24. Is the purpose of the tests to determine if you do/don't have Celiac? If that is the case, these tests will not be accurate as you have to be consuming gluten. Gluten is the trigger that makes the bloodwork positive in Celiacs; remove the gluten and your reactions subside. You may still test positive because your body hasn't fully healed yet, but if...
  25. 2 wheels, I hope that you start to recover soon...I agree, it is no fun to be you right now. UGH! Have you found out the source of your reactions? I hope that your gluten reaction subsides and that your "other" issues lessen their burden on you. I'm not sure about others experiences, but for me, it is a clear cut reaction. If I have gluten, I'm horribly...
