Not a one word answer but GIG (one of the leading gluten groups in America) had testing done with McDonald's and came out with a statement that they are gluten free. https://www.celiac.com/st_prod.html?p_prodi...-39107073320.a4 However, add me to the list of those who got tired of getting sick from cross contamination (even though I was "told...

ARCHIVED Diagnosis ?
happygirl replied to jaysmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You don't need an appointment at the gastro to have the Celiac blood work done. You can have it done at your pediatricians. -
ARCHIVED Hello - New To Forum - Questions On Joint Pain, Growth,...
happygirl replied to suebny's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hey SueAnn! Welcome to the board! We are happy to have you here. It is great that you have a definitive answer to your sons problems! In terms of joint pain-many Celiacs had arthritis type pain (myself included). However, for most of us, it went away by going gluten free, indicating that it was a symptom of Celiac versus having something like... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Panel Blood Tests
happygirl replied to sMann's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think about Celiac testing like diabetes testing. When a person with diabetes who doesn't know it yet is tested, their blood sugar levels are all out of whack. When a person with Celiac who doesn't know it yet is tested, their Celiac blood panel is (often-not definitively) out of whack. When a diabetic gains strict control of their diet and learns... -
ARCHIVED I Have Been Gluten-free For 3 Years And I Am Getting Sick...
happygirl replied to Janie*'s topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Many traditional GIs know little to nothing about other food intolerances, so if yours doesn't, it might be worth it to see an allergist, as some of them are more familiar with intolerances. Have you had the Celiac blood panel re-run recently to determine if gluten is potentially part of the problem (i.e., hidden gluten). It might be worth it to know... -
ARCHIVED Devastated! Everything's Fine With Me?
happygirl replied to sonja69's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sonja, Thanks for posting and keeping us up to date! Happy to hear that it sounds like you have found part of your problems. Keep working toward being 100% gluten free---only then can your body truly heal and fully regain its strength. I hope you find the other problems out soon, though, too. You have such a positive attitude---which will help immensely... -
ARCHIVED Diagnosis ?
happygirl replied to jaysmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Make sure that your doctor runs the FULL Celiac panel (which includes the tTG test) Many doctors only run one or two of the labs, because they are not up to date on the Celiac research. Ask him specifically if the one he is running includes tTG. Good luck! -
ARCHIVED My Dad
happygirl replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
CMCM, I can't comment on the "gluten sensitive genes" because there is very little published research in peer reviewed journals, but in terms of the two identified Celiac genes: In America, about 30-40% of the population has DQ2/DQ8 (one or both). The latest stats from Dr. Fasano indicate that 1 in 133 American's have Celiac...we can round that to about... -
Hey Diane, Welcome to the board! Happy that you were reading and have now joined. Its a great resource. Please feel free to chime right in, and ask lots of questions! I'm not in NH, but wanted to welcome you anyways . I'm sure someone from your area will chime in. Sorry to hear that you had a rough night---that is no good. I hope that today...

ARCHIVED Is My Doctor Right?
happygirl replied to Peta's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
As mentioned above, just having the genes does not mean your child definitively has Celiac. About 30-40% of the American population has these genes...but not everyone has Celiac. Make sure that during the biopsies, your doctor takes multiple biopsies in multiple sites. Although its still not perfect and can certainly miss damage, it is certainly better... -

the combination of feeling better already, plus the enterolab results and gene testing indicate very highly that gluten and other foods are causing problems for you. You may have other issues, however (I can't comment on the pancreas, etc). You do not need a doctor's permission to start and maintain a gluten free diet!

ARCHIVED gluten-free Cream Of Mushroom
happygirl replied to new to LI's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't have the label in front of me to check for meat, but I use Progresso's Creamy Mushroom for all my casseroles, etc. It is listed as a vegetable soup on Open Original Shared Link It is not a fully thick/condensed soup, but I heat it on the stove, and add gluten-free flour to thicken it a bit. My whole (non Celiac) family loves using it...my mom... -
ARCHIVED Addison Disease In Relation To Celiac Disease
happygirl replied to Lisa's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
you are more than welcome. JFK had Addison's. Some have speculated that he also had Celiac based on his symptoms and the connection to Addison's. This is an article written by one of my favorite Celiac experts, Dr. Green: https://www.celiac.com/st_prod.html?p_prodid=754 -
ARCHIVED Okay, Once And For All....
happygirl replied to Sweetfudge's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Sweetfudge, As a result of the 2006 Food Labeling Law (America), food that has any of the 8 main allergens in it, including wheat, must be disclosed. Caramel color, although rarely, can apparently be made with wheat. Unless it states that it has wheat in it, and lists wheat as an allergen (It would say, "CONTAINS: WHEAT" below the list of ingredients... -
ARCHIVED Just Got A New Job! Woo Hoo!
happygirl replied to Sweetfudge's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sweetfudge, Congratulations! Woo hoo! That is great! I can't really think of too many other things. If you eat make sure your desk is safe from crumbs (if other people eat there). If it is a joint fridge, make sure that your stuff is clearly labeled (I once came in to find someone squeezing my flip top mayo, hidden in the back, onto their sandwich)... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Blood Panel Reliability
happygirl replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Couple things: Some of the Celiac panel, for Celiacs who have full blown damage in their small intestines, is highly reliable. But that doesn't cover all celiacs, or any of those who are gluten intolerant (non-Celiac but gluten is still a prob) your bloodwork could be negative and you could still have Celiac. there are cases of those with negative... -

Jerry, happy to hear you are finding things that work for you! Let us know if you are looking for specific products or replacements for non-safe things that are in your house right now. Having the support of your spouse, for many, is essential. Having the support of my husband and whole family eminds me that this really is a minor part of my life. They... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free For 3 Weeks And I Think I'm Feeling Worse!
happygirl replied to AliceW's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Alice, I'm going to have to chime in, of course :) if you hadn't eaten out at all, that would be one thing. but considering that there are many of us that are ONLY glutened by eating out (bc we have the diet at home down pat), I would be highly suspicious of the connection between eating out and your symptoms. small amounts of gluten can do a lot... -

ARCHIVED Addison Disease In Relation To Celiac Disease
happygirl replied to Lisa's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Lisa, Dr. Green's book has a chapter on Celiac and related disorders. I believe Addison's is in there. I am already in bed with the computer, but I will check it out, hopefully tomorrow after work, and fill ya in on what it says . ARCHIVED How Many Have Celiac/gluten Intolerance With No Celiac Specific Gene?
happygirl replied to CantEvenEatRice's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Open Original Shared Link is another thread about the same topic....of course, it delved into other issues, but many people posted about their genes. There are two main Celiac genes identified. The vast majority (90-95%+) have HLA DQ2. Fewer (~5%) have HLA DQ8. However, there are some---- 1-3% or so ----- of Celiacs that do not have either gene. The...
