ARCHIVED I Am As Confused As The Doctors? Am I celiac disease?
happygirl replied to mcoop911's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You can be full force eating 100% gluten and your biopsy can still be negative. celiac disease is a patchy disease....so if they don't sample enough places, they could easily miss where the damage is. So even under ideal circumstances (eating gluten, and multiple biopsies in multiple locations), the biopsies might miss the damage. Add going gluten free... -
If you get tested for thyroid, I second the suggestion about making sure your antibodies are run. I have had numerous health issues and have a family history of thyroid problems. My TSH/T3/T4 were always normal. Always. Finally a doctor suggested the autoimmune test---and sure enough, they were highly positive. So make sure you get the "full" picture-...

ARCHIVED About To Go Dairy Free And Depressed As All Get Out About It
happygirl replied to eLaurie's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
eLaurie, Wow-I can symphathize with you. I think it is normal to feel what you are feeling---we all mourn food that we can't have, in some way or another. It is tough, but hopefully the results will be clear enough to make it worth it? There will be tough days, of course, but hopfully it will give you an answer. Earlier this year, I was reacting to... -
I'll be on and off....Eric just got home....so now we'll make up some dinner: shrimp and a nice salad, plus the traditional black eyed peas for good luck. We all know I need some....maybe I didn't eat enough b.e.p. last year? I'm loading up tonight!!!!! My new years resolution is to attempt to live a more normal life even in the midst of my mystery...

ARCHIVED I Am As Confused As The Doctors? Am I celiac disease?
happygirl replied to mcoop911's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
There are many on this board who have unclear diagnoses because of poor medical advice/treatment by doctors, as well as many who have positive bloodwork/no biopsy, etc etc. Every iteration possible----you can find on this board. I had some positive bloodwork, but my biopsy was taken while gluten free and was negative. Many doctors have told me I "don... -

ARCHIVED I'm Suuuuuuuch An Idiot!
happygirl replied to emcmaster's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Elizabeth, I'm sorry to hear about your rough spell. It definitely is frustrating, but you have been around on this board long enough to know that we have ALL been glutened before . Get back on the gluten free horse, and we'll resolve to make 2007 even MORE gluten free Laura -
Mtndog, When Eric gets home, I'll have to ask him what its like to be married to me. Although I probably know the answer :) We used to be so cool and do all kinds of fun things....now that just doesn't happen thanks to my health problems. Oh well, I'm just happy he still likes to hang out wih me! We've known each other since we were 12 (when we...

ARCHIVED Day Two gluten-free
happygirl replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Jerry, Check out the advice in my signature. It is hands down the best way to be gluten free. The broth in soup may have gluten, also, even if there wasn't any pasta in it. Its a steep learning curve! Good luck, Laura -
ARCHIVED Non-celiac Gluten Sensitivity/intolerance
happygirl replied to Chrisser's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Chrisser, Just wanted to say good luck! I know this is frustrating, not *knowing* exactly what the problem is. I think that non-Celiac gluten intolerance can cause just as many problems, but unfortunately, doctors know even less about it than Celiac. Have you been tested for other food intolerances/allergies? If you are interested in that, an allergist... -
Just wanted to jump in here and welcome yall to the board! Often, a newbie will start a thread, introduce themselves, describe where they are in the process of being sick/getting diagnosed, etc. So feel free to post it....maybe in the coping section. You'll be sure to get lots of welcomes Laura

If you are looking for medications, as mentioned above, either your family doc or a psychiatrist can prescribe them. If you are looking for counseling, you might look into a Marriage and Family Therapist. I was in the Human Development graduate program and we had the MFT students in our program as well. They are really trained in a wonderful way-to look...

Lisa, girl, you know I'll be here Someone apparently has to keep you entertained while Jim is sleeping, right Do I hear him snoring already?

Oh, wouldn't that be great. I had to laugh, because I refer to myself as the human gluten detector, because I am such a sensitive Celiac. :)

The sad thing is...this is the first year that we have both had off...but whatever my other health issues are, we had decided to just stay home. We wanted to spend it with one of my best friend's in Philly, but we realized that the drinking (I can usually only tolerate a little amount, not like I used to in college!), and the not sleeping (huge party-so...

kbabe, Welcome to the board! I am happy you have found us! I didn't find this board til "after" I got over the huge learning curve...and really wish that I had found it sooner. It is by far the best resource out there. Read on www.celiac.com, the parent site to this forum. There is a lot of great information!!!!!! Wheat must now be clearly... -
ARCHIVED Dumb People Suck
happygirl replied to vampella's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have to echo Lisa's sentiments...those of you who are mothers to little Celiacs get my vote of admiration! I've finally gt it down for me and what works for me, but I really give the moms out there a lot of credit. Vampella, whatever the solution is, I hope you find a good way to keep your daughter gluten free at pre-school!!!! Laura
