ARCHIVED Just About Out Of My Noodle.. Help?
happygirl replied to MissBlueJ05's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
What types of things of things are you trying to "replace" for her? We eat very few "specialty" gluten free products in our house. The ones we do use, we just discovered in the past year. I'm not sure what the diabetic diet requires, but what types of things was she eating before being dx'ed with Celiac? What were her typical meals like before this? -

ARCHIVED My Twin Brother
happygirl replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Nancy: Thanks for sharing that. Its interesting to hear that, as for years, "autoimmune" theories have included bacterial or viral "triggers" as part of their hypotheses. Although it is just anecdotal stories, there are many of us on here that never got better after having mono. So I definitely think that some (it could be many---makes sense) viruses... -
ARCHIVED Gluten In Some Animal Meats?
happygirl replied to BBadgero's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Gluten does not pass through in meats. So if you are having a problem, it is not gluten related. -
ARCHIVED How Common Is This In Families? Should I Tested?
happygirl replied to wahoo's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
wahoo, I'm not sure what else you would like to know about the gene test (see my response above)? All that will be required is for you to ask your doctor to order the gene testing for you. It will be a blood draw. They send it out to a lab and your results will come back to a doctor. I have the genes, etc. listed above, including the lab that they often... -
ARCHIVED Not Sure What Is Wrong With Me!
happygirl replied to key's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hey Monica: Just wanted to give you some words of encouragement for the prep. I promise, its not that bad! I've had three colonoscopies (one in November), and they really aren't that bad. Like Patti said, the prep is the worst, and its really just an annoyance more than anything. I've had both the "jug" and the one you have---and that one is much easier... -

ARCHIVED Ibs Or Really A Gluten Problem?
happygirl replied to CAS221's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hey Cas221: Welcome to the board! Happy you have found us....but sorry that you are having the symptoms you are having. Unfortunately, many people with IBS and Celiac have overlapping symptoms. Many IBS patients are actually Celiacs, not IBS! So I definitely think it is worht looking into. If you are going to get tested, continue eating gluten... -

ARCHIVED Can Someone Clear This Up For Me?
happygirl replied to emcmaster's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I completely agree with you. Even on Arrowhead Mills website, it calls it "Celiacs Disease." Come on, people! I have Celiac, but you and I together, are Celiacs, but some of our international friends have Coeliac and are Coeliacs. -
Wendy: I have to agree....but I am biased because I basically I can't eat out at all, in general, because I am a highly sensitive Celiac and have severe, sudden symptoms and can't risk it. I was in grad school when I was dx'ed, had my first job for about a year, and just started at my second job. I've never had a problem with going to work-related...

ARCHIVED Proctor & Gamble - Avoid This Company- Their Are Good Alternatives
happygirl replied to Deanne's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I actually got a similar response from Dove this summer. NOT in regards to gluten, but in regards to corn, which I was reacting to at the time. They said because of proprietary info, they were only required to tell people about the 8 main allergens, and anything after that, I would have to have a doctor's note, with the products, etc etc (as mentioned above... -
ARCHIVED Cream Of Mushroom Soup? Help.
happygirl replied to Rook's Mommy's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Valda, That is so wonderful! I think your recipe sounds great....you really have to think outside of the box when you have multiple issues...and it sounds like you are doing that wonderfully! (at one point last year, for 6-8 months, I was reacting severely to all but about 8 foods, and my reactions included all dairy, soy, eggs, all grains-including... -
ARCHIVED How Common Is This In Families? Should I Tested?
happygirl replied to wahoo's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Wahoo: Celiac experts (Dr. Green, Dr. Fasano, et al) recommend that ALL first degree relatives of Celiac are tested, even if they do not exhibit symptoms. Request that the full Celiac blood panel is run, which includes the tTG tes (which doctors often don't run). You can also ask at the same time to be tested (often through Prometheus Lab) for the... -
ARCHIVED Cream Of Mushroom Soup? Help.
happygirl replied to Rook's Mommy's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
kbabe: In general, I use one of the pre-packaged gluten free flour mixes (something along the lines of Bob's Red Mill, Arrowhead Mills, etc. etc.) I rarely use a "single" flour unless I'm making a certain recipe (i.e., for baking, when it calls for specific flours). I substitute "my" flour for anything that generally calls for flour Makes it easier... -
ARCHIVED Elizabeth Haselbeck Said She Has Celiac!
happygirl replied to TBOX's topic in Publications & Publicity
So happy to hear her come out and say this! We've known she's had a "problem" with gluten, and we all wondered! Nice to have it confirmed! Yay Elisabeth! Let me know when it comes on...I figured out how to Tivo finally dairyqueen: Heidi Collins, a CNN anchor, is a recently appointed spokesperson for Celiac Awareness. Google her and you... -
ARCHIVED Cream Of Mushroom Soup? Help.
happygirl replied to Rook's Mommy's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Progresso has a gluten free "Creamy Mushroom" soup (not Cream of Mushroom). It is good...I heat it on the stove and thicken it a little bit with some gluten free flour. Health Valley has a Cream of Mushroom and Cream of Chicken that are both gluten-free. We use the Progresso ALL the time in our house....as do my parents and in-laws when they make casseroles... -

ARCHIVED Random Acts Of Kindness
happygirl replied to angel-jd1's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Jessica: I think this is a great thread (yes, I honestly do think this is a truly great thread, but I admit I am biased because I got a little shout out ) I think this board is a random act of kindness everyday. I know thats kind of generic, but I wouldn't have succeeded on the gluten free diet if it weren't for people on this board who taught...
