And, for another tidbit of info, if a label says "vinegar" according to the FDA it is apple cider vinegar and safe to Celiacs. -
nini, i am so sorry that you are having such a reaction. it makes me sad that some of us react to such miniscule amounts, but it does make me feel better to know that I'm not the only one! i thought of you last night when I made my cheese sticks :)

ARCHIVED Newbie Needs Advice Re: Diet!
happygirl replied to Calicat's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
MSG in the US is SAFE. Although many people do not think it is healthy in general, in terms of gluten, it is a SAFE food. -
ARCHIVED Doc Called Enterolab "quackery"
happygirl replied to Jocelyn357's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would definitely recommend reading Dr. Green's book-"celiac disease-A hidden epidemic" --- would be good for you to educate yourself for when you have dumb dr's. I am bringing mine with me to my app't on Thursday! Hope that it helps. -

ARCHIVED Celiac Develpoed As A Side-effect?
happygirl replied to MissSio's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Celiac is an autoimmune disorder. One of the theories on what "causes" an autoimmune disorder to develop (vs. being born with it) is some sort of "trigger"----often, a viral/bacterial infection, pregnancy, severe trauma/stress, etc. They think that something happens to turn on your genes, essentially. I had a severe case of mono and the dr's think that... -
ARCHIVED Old Bay Seasoning
happygirl replied to domineske's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yes. The ingredients listed on the website are :CELERY SALT (SALT, CELERY SEED), SPICES (INCLUDING MUSTARD, RED PEPPER, BLACK PEPPER, BAY [LAUREL] LEAVES, CLOVES, ALLSPICE [PIMENTO], GINGER, MACE, CARDAMOM, CINNAMON), AND PAPRIKA. -
I love Dr. Green's book! I highly recommend it! heyho----I think your decision to go gluten free is a smart decision. Not only for you, but for your future children, knowing that they have a healthy MOM! From what I know---- the Celiac reaction is caused by the ingestion of gluten. So if there is no gluten being ingested, there is no autoimmune...

ARCHIVED Recommended Starting Foods For Newly Diagnosed Celiacs
happygirl replied to valery's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Also-just remember, that even though you may be eating 100% gluten free, your body might just take awhile to heal. So, to some degree, no matter what you eat (gluten-free of course!), every so often your body might just decide not to like you. But, it doesn't necessarily mean you ingested gluten or have other intolerances. (This happened to me!) Welcome... -
ARCHIVED Elizabeth Hasselhoff - The View
happygirl replied to Lisa's topic in Publications & Publicity
Aw, I like Elisabeth! -
Erica-I'm sorry to hear you aren't feeling well. This can be so frustrating! People's reactions vary in length and severity, and can even vary in the same person (depending on the amount of gluten, the time gluten free, and other unknown variables that Mother Nature likes to throw at us!). I know that my reactions now are very severe for a solid 24 hours...

happygirl replied to Lisa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Lisa---I hope you are feeling better! I know it is so frustrating when you aren't sure what the problem is. Hopefully, maybe the other suggestions will have taken care of the problem. I take it you haven't been eating out lately? Just wanted to double check. xoxo -
Good news about the infamous House/Celiac episode! I had mentioned to my mom awhile ago about the possibility of an episode because she loves that show and I told her to watch out for it. My mom gets the Harrisburg, PA GIG newsletter and shares interesting bits with me. In the most recent H-burg GIG newsletter, and they said that House will air a Celiac...

ARCHIVED Earliest Symptoms Of celiac disease
happygirl replied to lilysma's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
lilysma- Celiac is a genetic, heriditary disease. However, there are many people who are the only one who has (or knowingly has) Celiac....in other families, there are multiple Celiacs. Further, up to 70% of Celiacs are "silent Celiacs" --- meaning no symptoms, while others have debilitating symptoms. There are genes associated with Celiac, but many people... -
In Atlanta, and elsewhere, PF Chang's offers a gluten free menu. I have been to the one in ATL and it is great. You can go to their website and the list which items on their menu are gluten free. Also, Outback Steakhouse, Carraba's, and Bonefish Grill (all owned by the same company) offer a gluten free menu as well. They list it on their websites. Hope...

mcdonalds, wendys, chick-fil-a, taco bell, burger king, etc all have info on their webpages about allergies, most of whom include gluten information. however, let me note from personal experience, that being glutened on a trip is one of the worst things in the world (after eating at fast food places). I only eat gluten free items, tell the staff to...

ARCHIVED Cross-reactivity?
happygirl replied to slpinsd's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
In terms of the research standpoint, the drug that Dr. Fasano is working on for Celiac would then in effect help others with leaky gut, right? (the drug helps to keep the "gates" closed) -
I saw a video link on foxnews.com about allergies....thought I'd watch it for the heck of it. It was definitely geared toward allergies (not intolerances/Celiac) but he was talking about foods for people with allergies...he mentioned (and showed) gluten free pastas and gluten free bread! Thought it was worth sharing! Open Original Shared Link Scroll...

In general, Don Pablo's are not trained on the gluten free menu....the company just lists the items that technically are gluten free (in terms of ingredients, not cross-contamination/frying/etc). They are similar to Olive Garden-the company will tell you which items are safe, but they don't have a gluten free "program" like Outback, PF Changs, etc.
