  1. Thanks for that info, Jnkmnky!! That is really interesting.....
  2. I use little round rice crackers, and if in a clutch.....tortilla chips. At my parents church in PA, my grandma's church in GA, and my church in VA, (all Lutheran) it has always been fine. Also, for some denominations, including Lutheran, you only need one of the sacraments to receive Holy Communion. Luckily, when I don't bring my cracker, I can take...
  3. No, have yet to make it there!!!! But I've heard its great from others here as well. I think I might need to make a trip over there because I need some pretzels The Farm Fresh next to me carries the Amy's meals, Tinkyada pasta, and a bunch of the gluten-free pantry and bob's red mill mixes...enough to tide me over for normal days.
  4. For those in the Tidewater area of Virginia: The CSA group is meeting Tuesday, November 15, at 7 pm, Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, A-Wing Conference Room (1st floor), Norfolk. If anyone is interested or needs info, feel free to PM me.
  5. Yay for finding places like that!!! And an even bigger yay for having a boss that is concerned! My boss likes to tell people not to throw bread crumbs at me bc even that will make me sick
  6. I had sent in my info via the Center for Celiac Research (UMB) and was contacted last week!!! I am going up there the last week of November for "screening" --- bloodwork, EKG, etc to make sure I qualify. Then, if I do, I'll be up there the weekend of Dec 9th-11th. After completing a master's degree that focused on research methodology, I had a lot of...

  10. Swittenauer.... I shop at a Kroger in Virginia Beach, Virginia, as well as where I just moved from, Auburn, Alabama. The Krogers in both places carry Amy's soups on their "special foods" isle. If they don't carry them now, they might be able to order them since their company as a whole already carries them. I like their chili a lot! I also got their frozen...
  11. About two years ago, my grandmother (85!!) had a horrible case of the shingles, which left her in a lot of pain. She gave in and finally tried accupuncture.....and it reduced her pain GREATLY!! It was truly a lifesaver for her. One of her good friends just had it done after getting the shingles this summer...and it helped her also. I've never had accupuncture...
  12. That sounds great to me...please post!

  15. Christa- See this link for info on alcohol: https://www.celiac.com/st_prod.html?p_prodi...-21105163537.13 I used to drink Smirnoff Ice's-they were one of my faves! But, no more. Wines have moved up to the top of my list, as well as simple mixed drinks, some martinis, fresh margaritas....still many options!
  16. Cross contamination is a big issue for Celiacs, both at home and especially eating out. I am extremely sensitive to gluten (no other allergies, etc.) and am always careful to eat "identified" gluten free items at restaurants (fast food places, or other places that have provided info)....but still, I frequently find that I get sick. I usually don't have...
  17. I make "sandwiches without bread"---lunch meat, cheese, mayo/mustard, and roll them up into individual roll ups like I used to do when I was 5. I've also started making them with lunch meat and veggie cream cheese for a change of pace. If I have to grab a quick lunch, I get the baked potato from Wendy's and a side salad, or the charbroiled chicken breast...
  18. Are you eating out a lot? I get sick a lot from "gluten free" items at restaurants bc of cross-contamination.
  19. Check this list out: https://www.celiac.com/st_prod.html?p_prodi...-05102604299.58
  20. I thanked him as well!
  21. There is a very good gluten free pasta made by Tinkyada. You will find that many people on the board rave about it and it is many people's favorites, including mine! I've made pasta salads, homemade mac and cheese, etc and served it to people who didn't know it wasn't "regular" pasta and they loved it! Good luck with learning. We were all in your shoes...
  22. Open Original Shared Link That might be what you are looking for.
  23. Diagnosed at age 23, right after I was married! Very sick for 10 months before diagnosis. But, had mild GI problems during college.
  24. You mentioned that you gave up gluten two weeks ago....for many people, it takes a longer time for their symptoms to go away (a couple of months, etc) before their body feels back to normal. Just a thought!
  25. The bone/muscle pain is definitely the worst symptom for me when I am glutened so I can relate. I hope he feels better. I can tell almost immediately when I've been glutened thanks to my bone pain....keeps me in check! It did take me a couple months after going on the gluten-free diet to get rid of all the aches and pains, and now they only return when...
