ARCHIVED Gluten Free Frozen Meals
happygirl replied to melisadki's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You should be able to get Amy's near you---they are great. Some Krogers carry them and some do not. My current Kroger doesn't but my 'old' one did. Luckily there are two local grocery stores that carry them----I LOVE THEM! -
Karen-hope you are feeling better today. xoxo

ARCHIVED Following Diet, Still Having Stomach Pain
happygirl replied to ebrbetty's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It takes many people MONTHS just to feel remotely decent and many people take a lot longer. It took me a few months to feel better. I would get sick (after diagnosis, but before I was completely healed) after eating seemingly 'normal' and SAFE foods. Your body is probably still damaged and is just having trouble with everything. Once you are 100% gluten... -
I can send you Sharon's email address if you'd like to speak to her....just let me know.

Here is the rest of the conversation about the Melting Pot: Hi Sharon, This list was very helpful. I appreciate your help in this. Another question for you. You stated that all your cheese mixes have gluten in them, but you mentioned that they can use rice flour. Does that mean if I speak to the manager, tell him I have a gluten intolerance, and ask...

My heart goes out to you. I know you are having a tough time. Not only should you talk to your teacher about it, but your teacher should talk to the other teachers to prevent this from happening again. The mean lady should give you an apology. Sigh. Keep us updated.

Just wanted to add that I ate at Chipotle for the first time in December and was sick as a dog, within about 25 minutes. Guess it was cross contamination, but it sure was a whole hell of a lot of it! Frustrating! Because it was YUMMY!

ARCHIVED Vinegar?
happygirl replied to kristing's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
from what i know, anything that says "vinegar" means distilled vinegar and it is safe. I use heinz vinegar and have never had any probs. So if you see just "vinegar" on a label it is safe, according to the FDA. You are correct-malt vinegar is not safe. *however, i do believe there are some people who still have problems with vinegar. -
ditto to the lettuce wraps---that's what i was told to order from someone who is non-Celiac. They are apparently known for them and they are delicious. i've had them every single time i've gone there. I order the Shanghai Cucumbers and lettuce wraps for an appetizer with my husband. We order Chang's spicy chicken and then the Lemon Scallops (but you prob...

lol-thanks lisa! that will be good to know for next time (hopefully, this summer).

yay state by the way, where do you eat in State College? Besides the Outback. I'd be interested to know for my next visit! Williamsburg was great----ate at two places. 1st was Marino's on Richmond Road. Italian place. Had salad bar that came with dinner and brought my own dressing. Very small chance of cross contamination as 'gluten' items...

Once I hear back, I'll copy and paste it into one email for your convenience. This is very exciting. It seems like something that would be 'easier' to control in terms of cross contamination, too! (i.e., make it safe, and don't serve with bread!) Keeping my fingers crossed

Ok, here is what I heard: Laura, We received you message through the Melting Pot support center. The following is a list of items that DO contain gluten. This list is shorter than doing it the other way. Sherried Au Poivre All cheese mixes Teriyaki glaze Teriyaki marinade Vegetable Bouillon Mojo Tempura Batter Sesame Seed Batter Bread Brownies...

Does anyone have any experience eating at The Melting Pot? If so, do you know if any of their cheese sauces (or other products) are gluten free? Thanks!

ARCHIVED Picazzo's Gluten Free Pizza
happygirl replied to VegasCeliacBuckeye's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
mmm....let me know if they decide to "officially" ship the pizzas. I am drooling. -
nothing on there stands out to me, but I don't eat some of those products/brands regularly, so I wouldn't say that I'm an expert on them. Good job!!! My guess is that you are still healing, and either temporarily lactose intolerant bc of the damage, lactose intolerant, you might have some other intolerances, or there is something else going on. I would...

ARCHIVED Did You Know Someone With Celiac
happygirl replied to carriecraig's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I knew no one with Celiac when I was diagnosed. Since then, have met people through this board and local group. But, in the past few months, I have learned that a neighbor of mine in high school (still family friends of ours) was diagnosed with Celiac, and a girl I went to high school with has Celiac. And, now that I have Celiac, so many people that... -
sdore- I use the Better Homes and Garden's cookbook and just use a gluten-free flour or gluten-free pasta as a substitute in many of their recipes. I also LOVE McCormick's website (they are the maker of spices and many seasoning packets). Great recipes. www.mccormick.com. I like their products because they are usually very clear about listing gluten...

Rachel-I second what Judy said---I'd love a list of what tests he runs for you. I am doing just fine, but it would be helpful to know about it for the future. I sure hope that this dr provides you with answers!

ARCHIVED Qualified Doctor
happygirl replied to Packard's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had a similar experience in terms of GI running all kinds of tests, and my mom was the one who suggested Celiac. He never had. I personally would choose a different GI because presumably, this dr. is not well-educated about Celiac. Having a dr. who gives you mis-information is horribly frustrating. But, if he seems willing to learn and provides you... -
ARCHIVED Cc Vs. Slice Of Pizza
happygirl replied to carriecraig's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
from what I know, yes there might be fewer antibodies produced with "less" gluten, but the auto-immune system is being activated either way, and damage is being done. I try to prevent all "reactions" from occurring. -
ARCHIVED Most Annoying Comments/questions
happygirl replied to carriecraig's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I once had a manager at a restaurant tell me that the dough in their strombolis didn't have wheat "It's just regular flour-we don't add anything to it, so you can eat this" as opposed to their pizza crusts "We add wheat germ to that, so you can't have it." I never could get it through his head that that "FLOUR" as we know it is WHEAT FLOUR. Way to go,... -
ARCHIVED What Specifically Should I Look For On Labels?
happygirl replied to zip2play's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
zip2play-in terms of ice cream, some breyers are going to be safe, as are some edy's. Obviously, something like "cookie dough" ice cream is not going to be safe in ANY brand. Often, the ice cream 'itself' is gluten-free, but the 'goodies' in it are the problem. read labels, ask questions, call #s, and most importantly, don't eat anything unless you know... -
