ARCHIVED Should I Go Ahead With A Biopsy?
happygirl replied to jjgirl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The fact that you had positives on EMA and tTG, even on a recently gluten free diet, indicates that you have Celiac Disease. Those are the two "best" blood tests for Celiac. Given your other issues, I think it might do more harm than good to get the biopsy now. You are already sick and having issues. On the other hand, the procedure is good to check... -

ARCHIVED Millet
happygirl replied to debmidge's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
From the nutritionist at the Celiac Disease Center at Columbia University Open Original Shared Link (listed as safe) Millet: Dry and airy when cooked with a little water, but moist and dense when cooked with extra water. Bland in flavor, millet readily takes on flavors of foods cooked with it. As a grain as hot cereal or side dish, as flour in baking... -
ARCHIVED Want To Have Child Tested
happygirl replied to Jo.R's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You want the full Celiac panel run, which can be found at: Open Original Shared Link Serologic panel Of the commercially available serologic tests that aid in the diagnosis of celiac disease, no one test is ideal. Using multiple serologies increases the diagnostic yield. Therefore, in the United States, screening in patients with possible celiac... -
ARCHIVED How Long For Blood Results?
happygirl replied to tmk's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'd give it another week, potentially. I know its so hard to wait! When you talk to them, ask them to repeat the whole celiac panel results to you. They should have run the tests on this page: Open Original Shared Link Get each test name, your score, the reference range, etc. Then share -
ARCHIVED Maltodextrin?
happygirl replied to jessdreams's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Maltodextrin is safe, it is just a misleading word!!! And, if by any chance, if it hypothetically were derived from wheat, it would be required to be listed, under the food labeling law of 2006. Anything with wheat must be identified and not hidden. Kraft is a company that has a policy of not hiding ANY gluten in their products. So if you read the... -

Sneezydiva, Wanted to offer you a welcome to the board! This is a great place, full of information. I hope that you will find answers and your health improves...you have had a LONG journey! ARCHIVED Some Info
happygirl replied to mouth's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The reason that Dove says to read the label is because they have a policy of clearly listing any gluten ingredients, and not "hiding" them. Dove is a Unilever company. Many of their products ARE safe, and many Celiacs like to use them because they have confidence in being able to read their labels and know if something is safe. I just checked the ingredients... -
The reason that I ask is every "chain" that I've been to has marinated chicken, and many of them (including Applebee's) has soy sauce with wheat in the marinade. And have them use clean utensils...but you already knew that! Hope that it goes well Let us know how it goes.

ARCHIVED Retainer/denture Cleaner
happygirl replied to georgiagirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
A product being gluten free and a company swearing that its gluten-free are two different things. If you can post the ingredients, I'm sure someone will chime in to help determine if it is safe. -
Are there marinades on any of the meats that are grilled on this dedicated grill? (just a thought-might want to ask.)

ARCHIVED Daughter Has Tests Tomorrow
happygirl replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Chrisbee: Make sure that the doctor takes multiple biopsies in multiple locations. Also, wait for the results of the biopsies. Many doctors say "it doesn't look like celiac" and then the results come back...and sure enough, its Celiac. Best of luck! -
