    ARCHIVED Body Odor

When I lose weight I stink. Is he losing some weight?
  2. Welcome to the board. I hope you start feeling better fairly soon. Based on what I have read and learned, false positives are rare (usually 5% or less of all positive results) but false negatives are not and can occur in 5 to 60% of test results depending on the test (most being below 25%). World Gastroenerology report on celiac disease (see...
  3. Yeah, Bob's Red mill mix isn't bad. I add flax to it and extra baking powder and I get a bit of a rise.
  4. When testing kids, make sure they run as many tests as possible. Kids seem to have a higher false negative rate than adults so they are easier to miss - possibly because the disease is still in the early stages. Get these tests: tTG IGA and tTG IgG (tissue transglutaminase) - most common tests, misses up to 1 in 4 celiacs DGP IgA and DGP IgG (deminated...
  5. It is the holidays and my thoughts turn to food! I've been gluten-free for a couple of years now and the holidays got me thinking about what foods I miss (it isn't many) and what new foods I have discovered. I miss my Grandmother's sweet dough cinnamon buns the most. I have experimented in my baking and come fairly close to replicating them but it...
  6. Ditto the others. You probably need more time. The first six months or so can be very up and down. My arthritis, fatigue and hairloss actually peaked after I had been gluten-free for a couple of months and finally started to fade after 6 months gluten-free. I was convinced that I must have lupus or something else, and I even saw a rhuematologist about it...
  7. You need to eat gluten in the 2-4 weeks prior to testing. Many find it easier to not stop and restart because it can be difficult to make yourself sick for a month once you start feeling a bit better. Unless the endoscopy is many months away, I would keep eating a regular diet. Enjoy a beer and a cinnamon bun for me.... preferably not together.
  8. I would say it is fine as long as the dishes and utensils are clean.
  9. There is a good chance that you have celiac disease and the doctors did not realize that the biopsy can miss as many as 20% of all celiacs, especially if it was not well done. Your symptoms could be celiac disease so if you are eating gluten, you may as well get tested... with the newer tests. These are the tests: ttG IgA and tTG IgG (tissue transglutaminase...
  10. That is one Stephen King scary snowman! LOL
  11. My symptoms can be delayed and are worse with repeated glutenings. I don't feel great if I have gluten but if I accidentally have it again and again, which I did with some fries over a year ago, my symptoms slowly become worse - they creep up on me until they can't be ignored. You do have celiac disease but you either got lucky with your symptoms this...
  12. I too would advise continuing with a regular diet if you are able. The biopsy requires a patient to be eating 1-2 slices of bread per day (or equivalent) in the 2-4 weeks prior to the biopsy. If you are sure the biopsy will not be for a month or so, you could probably cut back on the gluten (some biopsy requirements are only 1/2 a slice of bread a day for...
  13. I'm sorry you weren't well. I've never heard of L-glutamine causing a problem in people. Are you sure it was the cause and not something else, or even the usual ups and downs that happen in the first half year or so of recovery. Perhaps try it again in a couple of weeks and see how it goes...
  14. My usual breakfast lately is bacon and fried veggies and mushrooms. Pretty carb low but high in fats if that is an issue for you.
  15. My kids were also negative on the only test they were given but two had symptoms of a gluten sensitivity so we are all gluten-free now. My boys are doing better so we haven't regretted it.
  16. The first six months gluten-free can be very up and down. Symptoms will come and go in seemingly random ways. The return of nausea could just be a bump on his road to recovery. Recheck his food for possible sources of gluten just to be safe. All that being said, did they do any tests for celiac disease at all? For blood tests to be accurate he will...
  17. I dreading the teen years and loss of food control I'll have over my boys. Good luck with your kids!
  18. Oh darn! I hope you feel better soon. It really is amazing what normal used to be, isn't it? Yikes. LOL
  19. Welcome to the board. Technically, a person's chance of having celiac disease is 1 in 133 BUT it is much much higher if a first degree relative has celiac disease. If you or your husband have celiac disease, then your kids will have a 1 in 10, or a 10%, chance of having celiac disease. That's the sats but I find that some families are higher and some...
  20. Welcome to the board. A few beers a week may or may not be enough gluten to give you accurate celiac disease tests. The tests are most accurate when the patient has been eating the equivalent of 1-2 slices of bread per day in the 2-3 months prior to testing. A beer would probably qualify as a slice of bread, in that case you are consuming approximately...
  21. Those with non-celiac gluten sensitivity (NCGS) can have the same symptoms as a celiac except the autoimmune attack to the intestines and the dh rash. NCGS can be just as nasty as celiac disease, and like celiac disease, our symptoms can change over time. I have celiac disease yet my reactions tend to build over time. If I get cc'ed a few times in...
  22. The ttG IgA can be a (weak) positive when one has thyroiditis, colitis, crohn's, diabetes (type 1), or chronic liver disease. They generally do not cause a moderate to strong test result though. To me, her tests and symptoms would indicate celiac disease. It may take months for symptoms to improve so encourage her to be patient. Hyperthyroidism can...
  23. Not really... I find I just have to plan ahead more, and that is mostly because of my (gluten-free) children - they would never be happy with a salad or skipping a meal if we are out. I end up skipping baked goods, that's all really. I am more aware of the junk that is put in processed foods now. Being forced to read labels has caused me to realize how...
  24. My boys were invited to a sledding party today. It was perfect. We had about 8 inches of snow this week and it warmed up to -7C or so, so the kids just needed snowpants, mitts, a toque and a sweatshirt. Beautiful! I love going out and playing in snow. It's just one of those things that an always make me happy. Plus the kids are young enough that...
