  1. I don't have any kids but in my opinion he already has a positive diagnosis of Celiac. I dont understand why doctors need to "see" damage in order to make it "official". It seems pointless to me in a situation like this. When there is some doubt then I can understand the need for biopsy but when all bloodwork is positive and there is a family member already...
  2. I remember the thread about Peeps too and I was just wondering....Am I the only one who thinks Peeps are GROSS. To me they taste like pure sugar....I LOVE marshmallows but Peeps totally gross me out.
  3. Thats pretty much what I do...I sometimes have nothing to say because some comments are so idiotic I just dont care to respond. The "look" says it all.
  4. I was thinking of ordering some of this but was gonna wait awhile. Today I happened to see it at the gluten-free store in my area so I bought some. I havent tried it yet but I couldnt believe the price on it! Its like a quart size carton and it was $9.99!!! Does that sound right...or is the price way jacked up? How long does one of those cartons last...
  5. Naaaaw, I think those are real too. She's got them in her childhood pics and in the pics I've seen of her Mom....looks like she's got those same lips. Maybe she "enhances" them but I doubt it...she doesnt seem the type.
  6. Vincent I have to admit this is the exact same thing thats been running through my mind lately since finding out about dairy. Everything I ever ate had both gluten and dairy in them...not to mention food colorings and preservatives (which I'm also sensitive to). Someday when I'm symptom-free I'll probably want to test myself too. Good to know Triscuits dont...
  7. The immune response you get from gluten is completely different from that of an allergy. Celiac Disease is autoimmune....allergies are not. I think its easier for people to understand the terminology when you refer to it as an "allergy" but whats going on inside the body is a completely different thing.
  8. That made me laugh! I gotta say though....I'm with CeliaCruz on this one...I'd much rather have someone like Angelina Jolie as a spokesperson than this other person...ummm what was her name again? I havent watched The View in years so dont know who she is and I must have not watched that season of survivor either...I have no clue who she is. It doesnt...
  9. Some people find they have to really tone down their diet in the beginning. For me...I've had to avoid alot of the processed foods and keep my diet kind of plain. I guess it depends on how damaged the intestines are....I agree about avoiding dairy. Dairy can definately get in the way of healing. I think alot of factors come into play when it comes to recovery...
  10. I agree with the last post. You dont need to see a specialist to have your thyroid levels checked...its just a bloodtest. If you're having that much trouble and obvious swelling why havent they ran the bloodtests. Its pretty standard...your GP can order them. Sounds weird that you've been waiting this long....they should be able to tell fairly quickly whether...
  11. Me too. I had the same thing with body temp. being off and real bad night sweats/chills. I dont get the night sweats anymore and only rarely get chills. As far as the smell thing goes...its really weird but for a couple of years before I even got sick I started having more body odor only under my right arm....left arm was pretty much odor free but right...
  12. Basically if the reaction is immediate, happens everytime the offending food is consumed with obvious allergic type symptoms (i.e. swelling, rashes, etc) and is positive in an IgE food allergy test then its an allergy. An intolerance is usually delayed reaction, symptoms vary, reactions are often dose related, triggering foods are often difficult to identify...
  13. Berneses, I dunno cuz I live here in the Bay Area and people look at me all crazy when I mention gluten. Well some people DO know what it is...but the majority dont know what the heck I'm talking about. Maybe it will be different when I start venturing out to the restaraunts....hopefully THEY will be more aware. Anyways, I cant wait to start eating...
  14. Thanks for the info JnkMnky, Sorry you have to go through that. Whatever I have its nothing like that...I havent experienced any pain from it. I think maybe its from the bloating...I get bloated all the way up to my chest sometimes. I'll talk to the GI about it....he said my digestive system is really slow so I need to eat slowly, small portions...
  15. JnkMnky (or anyone else), Can you explain to me what reflux is? Is it when your food comes back up after you eat? This happens to me sometimes. I get a really full feeling in my throat and it feels like if I burp food will come up. It doesnt hurt though. I notice it happens if I eat too much at once or if I eat a meal high in carbs. Is this GERD? Its...
  16. Yeah! I'm not the only one anymore. I think I must be 25% Spanish, 25% Italian, 50% Mexican....or something like that.
  17. Really? I never thought about that. The barium stuff I drank last week for my CT scan tasted pretty good to me. I would drink that stuff again no problem...I didnt feel sick afterwards.
  18. Donna, I have an appt. with him before I have the test so I'll be able to find out more. My mom was the one who talked with him and she said I definatelty have to get cleaned out again for the new test. Its not the one where you drink the smoothie...I've had that one twice already...that one was a CT scan. I'm not quite sure what this one is. ...
  19. Hi, I know there are some groups here...although I have never gone. Try posting your question in the support group forum and I'm sure someone will be able to help you.
  20. I had my first colonoscopy yesterday due to family history of colon cancer. I was really drugged up so cant remember anything. My Mom was telling me tonight that the doctor said he couldnt go high enough into my colon because of I have a really sharp turn that he couldnt get the scope past. He said its not that common but it sometimes happens in smaller people...
  21. I recommend not using soy as well....a mixture would be better. Bob's Red Mill has a gluten free all purpose flour. Yeah Molly!! I actually think I may have seen you at the game. Were you by any chance using crutches? If you were then I passed right by you...if not it was some other very orange girl with a painted face.
  22. Nobody's tried Natures Path? Thats the one I decided to use and I just made yummy muffins with it. I'm mainly worried about c.c. since I've had alot of problems. I try to stick to whole foods to avoid this for now. Are Natures Path products generally pretty safe?
  23. Maybe you're thinking of refractory sprue which is basically Celiac Disease which has led to so much damage that it does not heal. This is very rare though. "Sprue" has nothing to do with wasting away its just a name. You can call it Celiac, Celiac Sprue, Gluten Intolerance, Gluten Enteropathy....you can call it whatever you want but its all the same. "Refractory...
  24. It doesnt sound like you've been tested for Celiac so why not go ahead with that before changing your diet? You need to be eating gluten in order for tests to be accurate so once you start the diet you can no longer have those tests w/out going back on gluten for several weeks or months. Maybe schedule with a different doctor since you didnt like the one...
  25. I'm trying to decide which flaxmeal is safer. They are both organic. Bob's is cheaper for a bigger bag....but there is so much discussion on here about c.c. with Bob's. I guess I'm scared. What would you guys choose? Is Natures Path just as risky?
