  1. Cool...I'm glad they're getting some more reliable tests.
  2. I dont know of any new blood test. The tTG is suppossed to take place of the biopsy as "gold standard" at some point but I never heard of a newer test than that.
  3. Heidi, Have you seen the safe/forbidden ingredient list yet? If not here is a link. You can print out the list and take it with you when you shop. Thats what helped me in the beginning but it becomes second nature with time. https://www.celiac.com/st_main.html?p_catid...-02106297805.47 Also here is directions on how to download the Delphi list...
  4. Thanks for all the info. Mariann.
  5. What causes gallstones? How do you know if you have them? Isnt there a way to get rid of them w/out taking your whole gall bladder out?
  6. I agree. Richard, she looks absolutely beautiful and like Karen said...serene. She looks very sweet.
  7. I've never cheated and I cant see myself ever doing it. Its been almost 7 months now and I still feel the strong addiction but I've never given in. I used to think it was hard to quit smoking...the cravings for cigarettes passed fairly quickly but I think I'll crave gluten forever.
  8. I like the Living Without magazine. I found it at Whole Foods. A couple good books are "Wheat Free Worry Free" and "Dangerous Grains". Dangerous Grains is a more "in depth" look at what gluten is and how it affects us...its more scientific but "Wheat Free Worry Free" is easy reading.
  9. Some people say "Silly-ak" but I believe the correct pronunciation is "see-lee-ak". I used to say "Cell-ee-ak" and I actually still say it like that half the time. Dunno why...I guess it just sounds better to me.
  10. There was another thread about this not too long ago. Maybe you can do a search. I think some others (including myself) had gotten sick from them.
  11. Thanks Judy I'm excited about it already!
  12. Its an issue of CC only.
  13. Its a clinic that I go to...they have my kind of doctors there. The kind that dont just send you home with a perscription and no answers. They really work with you to get you better. I probably sound like a commercial for BioHealth but anyways they've been the best thing to happen to me since I got sick.
  14. I remember reading that in an allergy book I have. I'll have to look it up but there is some relationship...strange as it sounds. Hopefully getting rid of this stupid bacteria and then the candida will reslolve all the food issues. I want to go to DisneyWorld and have glutenfree pancakes in the shape of Mickey Mouse ears....I remember someone...
  15. Yeah...her doctor should have recommended that all family members be tested but sometimes the doctors dont know as much as they should. Also, I dont know how long ago your Mom was diagnosed but even 5 years ago they knew alot less than what is known now.
  16. First, without having the full panel done you really cant determine anything with one blood test (unless it was positive). For example your doctor didnt order the Total IgA so you may be IgA deficient and therefore would never show up positive on any kind of IgA test. Since some Celiacs have IgA deficiency its important to know this when ruling Celiac in...
  17. Hi, Enterolab cant officially diagnose Celiac so you wouldn't know "for sure" unless you had a biopsy with visible damage. It really doesnt matter because what Enteroab *does* tell you is that eating gluten is not good for you and you can develop further health problems if you dont follow the diet. You may never end up with flattened villi (Celiac) w...
  18. LMAO Yeah the test is mentioned in Dangerous Grains but I dont know of anyone whos actually had that test done. Ummm...hello...who would pick that test? I'd rather have the biopsy again and again.
  19. Yeah...its the same with all the forums I've been on. Actually I see more participation on here than any of the other forums I've joined but yeah most people are just "lurking" and never post.
  20. Thomas, Yeah...it does make me mad but I cant change it. At the time I knew nothing about gluten...if I had I'm sure the diet would have corrected my thyroid problems. I didnt know anything back then except that I was in pain and I wanted it to go away. At that time I believed that doctors knew what they were doing. I learned the hard way obviously. ...
  21. Since I have candida right now I'm not eating the stuff that is really high in sugar because thats what "feeds" the yeast. I'm not going back on the super strict diet which doesnt allow any fruits but I'm not gonna go crazy with the fruits either. I eat pears, apples, grapefruit and mangos. I'm sure the mangos are probably high in sugar when they're really...
  22. Ahh...so Tarnalberry may have just been the first to "re-sign" up....but not actually one of the first members?
  23. Kelliac, I notice you have DQ1 and also had a poitive biopsy. I dont ever see this although I know its possible to have Celiac w/out the main genes. I have DQ1 also but I didnt have my biopsy until I was already gluten-free for 6 months so couldnt determine anything from it. I figured it wasnt really a possibility anyways since I dont have DQ2 or DQ...
  24. Another thought is that bananas have a very high sugar content and since you're having problems with sugar you might be having problems with foods that have high sugar content.
  25. I think I remeber seeing that Tarnalberry is member #1 or maybe it was member #2. I dont remember exactly but she must have been here since day one.
