Does anyone know for sure if Zatarain's Fish-Fri breading is gluten free? The ingredients list only enriched corn flour but I want to be sure. Thanks

ARCHIVED Best gluten-free Pie Crust Recipe
Katydid replied to Spartans1960's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I, too, use Bette Hagman's recipe. I think its called Tender Vinegar Pie Crust. I mix all of my ingredients right in my Kitchen Aid; first cutting the shortening into the dry ingredients and then adding the wet and mix until it gathers up in a ball. However, I think the reason this always turns out so great for me is the rolling. I use one of those... -
ARCHIVED Chocolate Wedding Cake Gluten Free
Katydid replied to agray0527's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I have been cooking gluten free for over 20 years; and believe me when I say I have never tasted a chocolate cake, gluten free or otherwise, that is as good as Namaste Chocolate Cake Mix. It is available at health food stores or at namastefoods.com. It is dark and rich and moist; and it stays fresh tasting for many days. I have a website gift basket business... -
ARCHIVED Lasagna With Other Noodles?
Katydid replied to amybeth's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Hi- Just had to reply to your post as I make a 'lasagna' type casserole all the time and it is absolutely fantastic. Not only my family loves it; but it also gets rave reviews from our celiac group at our potlucks. Just layer the stuff like you normally would....no changes necessary. I'd be happy to email my recipe if you like; and I also have a great... -
ARCHIVED Can You Be Celiac And Only Have Symptoms Some Of The Time?
Katydid replied to Krystens mummy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I just had to reply to your post because it reminded me so very much of my husband's situation. Fifteen years before he was finally diagnosed with celiac, he kept complaining to doctors that it seemed like he was getting the flu every 6-8 weeks, lasting 3-5 days. He would bloat, have D, heartburn, and feel exhausted and weak and achy all over. Over the... -

ARCHIVED I Need Recipes Using Egg Yokes
Katydid replied to Katydid's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Wow! Thanks so much for the great ideas for using my egg yokes. I certainly won't be throwing anymore away. I was particularly excited about the info on freezing them. I had wondered about that, but now I have the directions. How cool! This forum is so marvelous...I just knew someone could help me out. Kay -
ARCHIVED I Need Recipes Using Egg Yokes
Katydid posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I have recently been baking a lot of a new French Bread Recipe; not only for bread, but also to make sub sandwiches It is absolutely marvelous. The only problem is it uses 3 egg whites and I don't know what to with all the egg yokes, short of putting them down the garbase disposal. Does anyone have any recipes to help me use up my egg yokes instead of... -
As to the question of having a 'normal range' thyroid test and still having thyroid type symptoms, I would like to add the following: I always had very low basil temp in the morning. You need to take it under your arm upon awakening, even before getting out of bed. I was cold all the time and would get these horrible fatigue spells where I was so tired...

ARCHIVED My Dr Thinks Im Crazy?
Katydid replied to horsefarmer4's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
LETS FACE IT, WE ALL THINK THAT A GI IS THE LAST WORD IN STOMACH AND GUT PROBLEMS, BUT ALL GI'S ARE DEFINITELY NOT CREATED EQUAL. I ONCE HAD VERY PROMINENT GI TELL ME THAT FATIGUE WAS IN NO WAY A SYMPTOM OF CELIAC. YOUR BLOOD TESTS COULD HAVE BEEN FAULTY BECAUSE YOU HAD BEEN ELIMINATING GLUTEN FOR A WHILE. I SAY IF EATING GLUTEN FREE IMPROVES YOUR... -
I have a celiac husband who is a super high engergetic individual; and the kindest, gentlest and most loving and giving person you could ever meet. So much so that our children often say their is surely an angel in heaven knitting his halo. But when this wonderful man accidently gets glutened. WATCH OUT! You have never seen such a transformation. ...

Katydid replied to JustCan's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Gluten free apple pie filling brands - Great Value, Wildnerness and Musslemans are all gluten free (the Great Value brand is Walmart's house brand and actually says 'gluten free' on it The last time I checked, Lipton Onion Soup mix was still gluten free. Hope this helps. Kay -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Munchkins!
Katydid replied to Cam's Mom's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Hey - has everyone interested in this pan seen the Walgreen ad in last Sunday's paper? I think they are national ads. Walgreens has the same identical Pancake Puff Pan in their "As Seen on TV" section. Easier to get to because it seems like there is one on every corner. Cost is 19.95. Kay -
ARCHIVED Glutino Chocolate Wafer Cookies
Katydid replied to elonwy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
When it comes to crumbs for a cheesecake crust, just about any chocolate cookies run through the food processor works really well. I have used Pamelas chocolate chunk cookies for this; but I usually always have chocolate crumbs in the freezer. If I ever have anything chocolate left over and starting to dry out (cake, cookies, brownies, etc) I just remove... -
ARCHIVED Gfcf Cookbook
Katydid replied to confused's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have just purchased a book called "THE KID-FRIENDLY ADHD & AUTISM COOKBOOK-THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO THE GLUTEN-FREE, CASEIN-FREE DIET" by Pamela J. Compart, MD and Dana Laake, RDH, MS, LDN I haven't gotten into it far enough to actually try the recipes yet---still reading; but it seems to be a fairly comprehensive evalutation as to what it is, why... -
Open Original Shared Link I got a chuckle out of your post about eating something wrong at your celiac support meeting. (but not because its funny) That happens to my husband every once in a while. He has severe reactions (similar to gluten)if he ingests anything with MSG or TBHQ in it. He sometimes forgets that when we go to our gluten free potlucks...

ARCHIVED Restaurants In Fort Myers, Florida Area
Katydid replied to MaryJones2's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Oh I absolutely love Sanibel. We've been there many, many times. Our favorite place to stay is Pointe Santo. Its right on the ocean front and the accommodations are delightful. But one thing they are missing though is good health food store. They have a very tiny one on Periwinkle but it has very little in the way of gluten free food. I definitely... -
ARCHIVED I Have Been Turned Upside-down!
Katydid replied to silly celiac's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
After reading all these posts, now I'm a little confused. I always thought celiac disease and gluten sensitivity were two very distinct and different conditions. I never knew that gluten sensitivity could be a precursor to celiac disease. I am especially interested in this as I have a 40 year old daughter who tested negative on the blood tests... -
ARCHIVED Which One Of These Foods Could Be Making Me Bloat?
Katydid replied to Sarah8793's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
For what its worth, everytime my celiac husband tangles with MSG he bloats up big time -just like he did before his celiac diagnosis. He knows before he leaves a restaurant if he has injested it. Another additive that gives him a similar response is called TBHQ. It is present in lot of cooking oils used in restaurants but is also listed on many ingredient... -
I totally agree with the cross contamination issues in restaurant kitchens. We don't eat out very often for this very reason. When we do, we always go to a restaurant that does not marinate their steaks and cooks them on an open flame grill which is much safer than a flat grill. My husband also has another little trick. When he orders his salad, he asks...

Same story for my duaghter who is 40. She started feeling really run down last fall and since she was quite a snorer, the doctor put her through the sleep test for apnea; which she passed with flying colors. As testing for her exhaustion continued, she suggested a celiac blood test because her dad has it. (even though she had tested negative 3 years ago...

ARCHIVED Deli Meat
Katydid replied to holdthegluten's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
DiLusso brand deli meats now advertise gluten free. I don't know if they are available everywhere but we live in the midwest. We love all their meats, especially the rare roast beef. We make a killer Philly Steak and Cheese. Saute a little green pepper and onion then add roast beef just long enough to heat. Place in a Kinnikinnick hot dog bun, top... -
ARCHIVED Hi, I'm New And What Does A Celiac Stool Smell Like?
Katydid replied to Tanzanite's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would truly love to see you go totally gluten free and see what happens. What could it hurt? You have described a classic "celiac stool" I have a dear friend who was nearly bedfast when she asked her doctor for a celiac blood test. In his arrogance, the doctor refused stating that he was the doctor and he was treating her conditions. As a last resort...
