I found this in another forum and found it very interesting: Open Original Shared Link Despite its rather alien-sounding name, xanthan gum is as natural as any other fermented corn sugar polysaccharide you can name. Don't worry - I can wait. Seriously, xanthan gum derives its name from the strain of bacteria used during the fermentation process...

ARCHIVED Anyone Seen Dannon Commercial?
darlindeb25 replied to Mtndog's topic in Publications & Publicity
To some people it is the most beautiful and natural thing and to some it isn't. I did not breast feed my kids, I was very uncomfortable about it all. I do not think anyone should be made to feel bad about their choices. When I think about it, none of my grandkids were breast fed. I was born in 55 and we were given evaporated milk with karo syrup in... -
ARCHIVED Over Glutened, Harder To Recover?
darlindeb25 replied to Ozzy's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
There may be a little more to this then just the gluten. You may be a little depressed about actually having celiac disease. It's one thing to know that eating gluten-free makes you feel better, yet it's a nother to know that you actually have a disease that is a lifetime change for you. It is also quite possible that some of the symptoms would have returned... -
ARCHIVED Do You Automatically Test Your Kids?
darlindeb25 replied to Tritty's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have 5 kids and with what I know now, I certainly would of had them tested, I wish I knew then what I know now. I think at least 3 of my kids are gluten intolerant and now they are adults and aren't sure if they want to be tested. One was blood tested and the doctor said negative. One's doctor told him he doesn't need tested at this time. My daughter... -
ARCHIVED Multi Vitamin
darlindeb25 replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Call the 800 number and ask--best advice anyone can give you. I truly am not sure about that one--I take Nature Made, says gluten free right on the label. -
ARCHIVED Mcdonald's French Fries
darlindeb25 replied to ShortStuff2309's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I too am very sensitive to gluten and I was never glutened by McDonald's fries. My son used to bring them to me all the time. At the time, he was a manager of a local McD's. I haven't tried fries in a while because I can't have potatoes anymore, yet my sister still eats them and she is very sensitive too. The biggest comment I have is: Why must you... -
Kaycee--I just saw this about talking with your hands. Kev is a righty like me, yet he does talk with his hands too, as do many people, left or right. I often tell him if his hands were broken, he wouldn't know how to talk. I found this website: Open Original Shared Link it says: Lefthandedness Being left-handed is like being in a secret...

Has anyone else ever tried writing with their right hand the normal way and writing the same thing with their left hand backwards, both at the same timeI can do this too, always have. My dad and brother are lefty's. None of the grandkids are lefty's. There has been much study done about left handed and right handed people. Left handed people think...

I attribute difficulty with left/right and other directions as a form of mild dyslexia.Honest you guys, lots of people have no sense of direction--doesn't make you dyslexic. I'm sure you are very good at things I can't do--that's the way it is. My sister is a wonderful cook, I could care less about cooking--I can sew just about anything, she doesn't sew...

Hehe--we are not created equal! If we all were the same, what a boring world this would be. I tell my daughter to look to the right and almost always have to say, "Look to your other right!" I am very good with directions, very good with maps, and I never get lost. I may not beable to find what I am looking for, but I can always retrace my steps and...

First I want to add to this statement: some doctors recommend taking an ibuprofen or aspirin at night for your vascular system so its not doing something bad to yourself. Ibuprofen is ok occasionally, yet should not be taken regularly--it can cause stomach upset over time. The asprin doctors recommend is in a low dose and should always be enteric safety...

ARCHIVED So Sick Of This
darlindeb25 replied to ReneCox's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thank you, I was going to mention that not all salted nuts contain gluten. I also have always drank coffee, I went decaf after Thanksgiving for my neuropathy and have not noticed any change at all--neuropathy to celiac. I also have always used peanut butter, it is the one thing that has been a staple of mine for the 5 1/2 years of being gluten free--there... -
ARCHIVED Dogs - Can They Have celiac disease?
darlindeb25 replied to debmidge's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yes, dogs can be diagnosed with it. They even make gluten-free dog food now. Many families who are gluten-free even feed their dogs the gluten-free food so there is not the possibility of being glutened by the dog kisses. I read a very good article about this a while ago, but I can't remember where. Maybe if you google: dog + gluten intolerance. -
ARCHIVED Dairy Free Icecream !
darlindeb25 replied to georgie's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
When I was a kid, we used to make ice cream and it was always such a treat. I remember that my mom always cooked the ice cream first, she could not fathom the idea of raw eggs. So, I am wondering if you couldn't heat this first, just enough to cook the egg, then freeze it? -
And my take-home message would be: It doesn't matter, it damages your body. Stop eating it. Yes, Jestgar, this is the message that we all need to remember. It doesn't matter if we have a diagnosis or not--if we know gluten changes things for us, then we listen to that message alone. Why would anyone go back to gluten when they feel better without it...

ARCHIVED What's Easier... The Whole Family Or One Person
darlindeb25 replied to mommalov's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Mommalov--does any one else have symptoms too? My dad is gluten free and my mom eats gluten free most of the time with him, yet when they go out, she eats gluten. A lot of good meals can be fixed without gluten, so you could just try to make it easier for yourself by cooking this way. I never expected anyone else in my family to eat gluten free just because... -

ARCHIVED Celiac's?
darlindeb25 replied to walshclan's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
IBS is a diagnosis, I just really wonder how real it is. IBS stands for Irritable Bowel Syndrome, although, a doctor once told me he feels it stands for "I Be Stumped!" Sometimes I think they diagnose it when they really have no idea what else is going on. I was diagnosed with it 25 years ago. Connie--I have heard many celiac's say they have a problem... -
ARCHIVED Other Food Intolerances/allergies
darlindeb25 replied to katrinamaria's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I have an intolerance to corn and soy, they both cause severe cramping and constipation for me. Tomatoes give me severe diarrhea, similiar to gluten. I can eat oranges with no problem, yet an orange scented spray makes my chest tighten up, eventually causing breathing problems. I react to wheat and oats on my skin with hives. Mushrooms make me ill in... -
ARCHIVED Answers To Symptoms, dry Skin Ect.
darlindeb25 replied to Paulr's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Paul, at only 6 weeks the toxins from gluten may still be causing a problem. Are you sure you are gluten free? Have you checked your shampoo, soaps, lotions, aftershave, etc? Medicines too, sometimes contain gluten. Cross contamination can be a problem. Yes, you can still kiss your wife. She should be very careful about gluten when kissing you,... -
ARCHIVED Off To Do My First Ironman Race
darlindeb25 replied to super-sally888's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I have a wonderful friend named Tim, who is a member of this forum too, but has not posted for a few years--he ran in this triathlons before going gluten-free. He used to tell me of the dedication it takes to be an ironman runner and I am proud of you. You have come a long way to get where you are and I think it's wonderful that you are doing this. Angels... -

ARCHIVED Am I A Kook?
darlindeb25 replied to JerryK's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
One egg shy of a carton--I like that. Is it the same as one shingle short of a roof, or one brick short of a load, lights on but nobody is home. I think these are what many of our doctors are, not us!!!! Doesn't matter Jerry, you already know you are one of us, what difference does the blood test make??? -
Jestgar, I like Dr. House for that reason, he is a doctor I wish I had found years ago, one who would not have given up until he figured out what was wrong with me. By the way, I love your pic!
