ARCHIVED Before Diagnosis
darlindeb25 replied to Kaycee's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I knew quite a bit about it, my sister was diagnosed in March, I went gluten-free in July. She talked to me about it all in June and suggested that since I had no money for testing, maybe just trying gluten-free out would make a big difference. I've been gluten-free since then, will be 6 yrs in July. -
ARCHIVED Ok--casein.....lactose
darlindeb25 posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
As I mentioned, I am finding that ice cream is causing a reaction with me. I cough and cough and it seems like it creates so much phlegm for me--this is something new to me. I can eat cottage cheese with no problem and cheese doesnt seem to bother me. I also drink my coffee with lots of milk added and that seems fine. Can someone explain all this to... -
ARCHIVED Crappy Day....
darlindeb25 replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Also Jerry, I should have added this in the first post. Sometimes, as you are detoxing your body, you will have bad days, it just happens. It took you a very long time to get where you are, it does take a while to feel better. You think you feel good now, because you were so sick, yet it will only get better from here. -
ARCHIVED Weight Loss Suppourt Thread (shannonl) And Any Others Who Want To Join
darlindeb25 replied to a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
This thread is certainly an eye opener for me. I never thought about the fact that celiac disease makes our metabolism go haywire. I sit here and try to figure out why I haven't lost weight. The part about our bodies learning to survive on less food is something my sister has told me, yet it never connected in my head until I saw the word, metabolism!... -
ARCHIVED Crappy Day....
darlindeb25 replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Could be Jerry. Everyone reacts differently. A lady I work with was tested for celiac disease because she had the severe stomach issues that many celiac's have, yet she is lactose intolerant. So, that could be your problem. Do you have problems with milk, cheeses, etc. When I first went gluten-free, I lived on cottage cheese and fruits, so I didn't have... -
ARCHIVED Celiac And Overweight
darlindeb25 replied to sweeet-pea's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Sweeet Pea, yes, many of us are overweight. It's not true that most celiac's are thin, wasting away. Just as many of us have weight problems. Our bodies react differently to the malnourishment we were living in. When I first went gluten free, I lost weight. Eventually losing 60#. Then my other intolerances kicked in and I gained maybe 15# back and I... -
Wow, what an eye-opening reaction I am having to this thread. Our bodies are certainly complex. I know I am allergic and intolerant of wheat, if it gets on my skin, I break out in hives. Wheat is easy to stay away from because, as was said, once a celiac, always a celiac! I also react to oats and soy on my skin. I will never try oats again and know I...

ARCHIVED I Need Some Help Figuring This Out
darlindeb25 replied to emcmaster's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Ok, a new twist on the situation. I had this similiar thing going on with me in November. In the beginning of December, I had a vacation planned to go visit my kids and grandkids. My tummy kept acting as you say yours is, in the beginning, not every night, but soon it was every night--Thanksgiving was the first day of terrible hurting. I too finally decided... -
ARCHIVED Thyroid Getting Worse
darlindeb25 replied to super-sally888's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
The range has changed in last few years and is now below 3.5. What do you mean--anything below 3.5 is bad? I am trying to understand this all--thank you for helping me. -
ARCHIVED Thyroid Getting Worse
darlindeb25 replied to super-sally888's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Deb, We need to see ranges for the Free T4. I'm not sure what you mean. T4, Free 1.1 (0.8-1.8 ng/dL) You are right, I do not see T3, Free on my paperwork, just an uptake amount T3, Uptake 27.2 (22.0-35.0 Percent). To be honest, I do not understand any of this, just reading what you tell me. The doctor of course, told me my thyroid... -
ARCHIVED Is There Any Society For People With Celiac Disease
darlindeb25 replied to haze63's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I am not sure what you are asking for Haze. We have the GIG, the Gluten Intolerance Group of America: Open Original Shared Link There are support groups in many places now. You have found this forum and there are several others too. Anything you need to know can probably be answered here and if not, many knows sites to look for or a person who may be... -
ARCHIVED I Can't Believe I Just Did That...
darlindeb25 replied to Nantzie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I didn't get glutened by this, but I could have so easily! I was at a family reunion and we always have ice cream. My cousin had bought some vanilla and I checked it for gluten--nothing. So, I got my ice cream and sat down. My daughter came running up and screamed, "Mom, what are you doing?" I was like, "UMMMMMMMMMM, eating ice cream!" She then reminded... -
ARCHIVED Something New I've Noticed
darlindeb25 replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Geoff--have you had your blood tested--sounds like a B12 deficiency to me. The others seem to have found the cure for their tingling, well, except maybe for wowser. I do have neuropathy and I have to take B12 daily. -

ARCHIVED Please Read - No Celiacs Can Have Soy!
darlindeb25 replied to srokie's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Well, I agree with Srokie and her doctor. Soy is not good for any of us. I have seen many sites just like hers and they all say the same thing and I totally agree. The other thing I want to state here is: we do not all think the same way, we do not all agree on everything. We need to respect each other's opinions, whether we agree or not. If there... -

ARCHIVED Thyroid Getting Worse
darlindeb25 replied to super-sally888's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
brain fog, not thinking straight, getting even more obsessive compulsive than normal... and getting depressed This so resembles how I feel. The brain fog is probably the worst. Last Friday, I locked my keys in my car. I do things in an order, all the time, yes, slightly obsessive complusive, I guess. I do not feel it is so much complusive, it's just I... -
ARCHIVED Pitfalls Of Self-diagnosis
darlindeb25 replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thank you Cathy and Jestgar. Yes Tom, you choose not to eat pizza and beer, no one is forcing you, it is a choice you make. I never said celiac is a choice, not a disease. I said, I have celiac disease and i choose to change my lifestyle to accomodate my needs. I am not twisting the meaning, you are. It is the difference between acceptance and denial... -
ARCHIVED My Twin Brother Says...after 5 Days gluten-free...
darlindeb25 replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
That's great Jerry and isn't it wonderful to help another feel better. I'm happy he listened to you and without a diagnosis too. My sister told me to go gluten free and I thank God she did. -
ARCHIVED Pitfalls Of Self-diagnosis
darlindeb25 replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Choice, alternative, option, preference all suggest the power of choosing between things. Choice implies the opportunity to choose: a choice of evils. Alternative suggests that one has a choice between only two possibilities. It is often used with a negative to mean that there is no second possibility: to have no alternative. Option emphasizes free right... -
ARCHIVED From The Renegade Neurologist
darlindeb25 posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
In a recent issue of Archives of Neurology (Open Original Shared Link), Mayo Clinic researchers reported a strong relationship between celiac disease and declining brain function. The authors described coincidental problems of both gastrointestinal as well as brain function in a surprisingly high number of individuals. Interestingly, in describing their patients... -
ARCHIVED Is It Ever Ok To Cheat?
darlindeb25 posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Because cheating on the gluten-free diet has been discussed here recently, I felt strongly I should post this. I just found this website yesterday and it looks like it will be extremely helpful. As I write this, I am a patient in the hospital (for the past three weeks). I was diagnosed with celiac ten years ago. As soon as I started the gluten free... -
ARCHIVED Newbie, Just Diagnosed...what Is Normal?
darlindeb25 replied to jlynn's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Welcome to the forum. It may be that your body is just ridding itself of toxins, gluten is toxic to us. Maybe you should try eating very simple things for a few weeks. The gluten free bread may be to heavy for you to eat just yet. Be patient, you stick with it and make sure you are totally gluten free, you will feel better in time. -
ARCHIVED People With Clinical Depression And Anxiety
darlindeb25 replied to Mtndog's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree Jerry, I know that my panic/anxiety was caused by gluten. The sicker I became, the more panic I encountered. I worried about everything, and the biggest thing I worried about was disappointing everyone else. A vicious cycle, the more I panicked, the more I worried, the more I worried, the more I panicked. I was taking 40mgs of Paxil and still...
